He opened a brand-new deck of playing cards.
Lu Mian took them, holding them in the palm of her hand and flicking them open one by one.
Her movements didnât seem that adept, yet they created a scene one couldnât take their eyes off of.
Her fingers were slender and graceful, her clean, natural pale pink nails neither too long nor too short, exuding a healthy, translucent beauty. The cards, seemingly carelessly shuffled in her hands, made it seem like watching her shuffle was a pleasure in itself.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
The light in the bearded manâs eyes became brighter and more restless.
âLittle sister, you canât shuffle cards like that,â he said, stroking his chin, smiling like a sly fox, âPut them on the table, and Iâll teach you.â
Lu Mian glanced at him, a fleeting sneer flashing in the depths of her clear, cold ink-black eyes.
She didnât listen to the bearded man.
After a few âsnap snapâ flips of the cards in her hand, she neatly placed them in the center of the table.
âTheyâre shuffled.â
It was truly just a casual shuffle, something rarely seen on the poker table.
They all suspected that the cards had probably not been properly shuffled.
However, with Xiao Qimo present, the bearded man wouldnât say or do anything at this moment, and called out to the four players, âCome on, letâs continue. With the cards little sister shuffled for us, Iâm sure my luck will increase substantially!â
âBoss Huang, your luck is good today, youâll definitely win!â The bearded manâs henchman across the table flattered him.
âBrother Qiâ¦â Ye Jinwen also called out.
Xiao Qimo didnât pay attention; instead, he turned his gaze to Lu Mian, who had quietly and obediently taken a seat behind him, with a slight curve forming on the corner of his lips.
This time, it was the bearded manâs turn to draw cards first.
His fingers, trembling with excitement, brushed away the first playing card and he clicked his tongue, âLetâs see what good card Iâve gotâ¦â
In his hand was: the Four of Hearts.
His face clearly showed disdain.
When it was Xiao Qimoâs turn, his fingers held the âBig Jokerââthe biggest card in the deckâsomewhat surprisingly. Tonight was the first time heâd drawn such a high card.
He leaned back slightly and said in a low mocking tone, âNicely shuffled.â
Lu Mian, who was nonchalantly playing a game with her legs crossed, amidst her busyness only lazily responded, âI just shuffled them randomly.â
Xiao Qimo nodded and continued.
After all the cards on the table had been drawn and everyone had organized their hand, the man stared at the unbeatable âroyal flushâ in his hand and fell silent.
The hand was so good that he felt the urge to play it openly.
Jinwen across from him was the same, relaxed and confident, nearly unable to sit still in his chair.
On the other hand, the bearded man and his group looked as dark as the bottom of a pot, only wanting to throw down their cards and leave.
Lu Mian, uninterested in their game rules, finished her two-minute game and looked up to see Xiao Qimo lay down all his cards, declaring with cultivated elegance, âWeâve won.â
With such a hand, they could win even with their eyes closed.
The bearded man and his companionâs faces turned ashen. Was this some kind of hex? Such terrible cards in one hand!
âLittle sister, come on, help us shuffle one more time!â The bearded man was not quite willing to give in.
Lu Mian lazily raised her eyes, âFulfill your promise first.â
Xiao Qimo and Ye Jinwen also looked at him quietly.
âFor little sisterâs sakeâ¦â The bearded man gestured grandly, yet was rather straightforward, âMake your demands, as long as theyâre within my capabilities.â
Ye Jinwen, having received a signal from Xiao Qimo, winked at Lu Mian before asking, âBoss Huang, we donât really have any demands. Weâre just curious, where did you buy the shiny gold chain around your neck? It looks pretty nice.â
To such a simple question, a normal person would be relieved.
But the bearded manâs face turned wary.
The gold chain had always been tucked under his collar; not many people could see it. Now that it was suddenly mentioned, his guilt was showingâ¦
âEh, thisâ¦â The bearded manâs eyes shifted evasively.
With a trace of a mocking smile, Lu Mian spoke up, âIs this too difficult? Could it be that the gold chain isnât yours?â
