The conversation between the two girls was abruptly interrupted.
As the chilly breeze slipped in, Liang Xueyan hurriedly tucked the corner of the blanket around the child beside her.
Lu Mian, too, casually pulled a thin quilt over to cover the shoulder area of Liang Xueyan.
She knew that women who had just given birth should not catch cold.
Mrs. Wang, unconcerned with this side, quickly got up to greet the newcomer at the door; her knee pain was gone, her spirit renewed, as if she had come back to life.
âSir!â
The man who entered was none other than Liang Xueyanâs husband, Wang Yanzhuo, one of the many sons of the Wang Family.
Because the Family Head favored him, he had a smooth sailing influence within the family.
Mrs. Wang called out eagerly, then paused, curious, âHow come youâve returned at this time? Have you finished negotiating with the IEG leader so quickly?â
âI didnât see them!â the man coming in said as he took off his coat, his tone revealing impatience: âFor some reason, my people were kicked out by security. This trip has been a waste.â
âHow could that be? Why?â
âI donât know.â Wang Yanzhuo didnât dare to ask or confront them, for fear of offending someone from IEG. Even if the other party was a mere monk, he had to be cautiously accommodating. If they were thrown out by them, they could only cower.
Mrs. Wang shook her head in disappointment, âAh, it wasnât easy to get this information. If the Family Head finds out, heâs likely to be disappointedâ¦â
âIâll think of something else.â
Wang Yanzhuo lifted his hand, not wanting to continue on this topic.
With a chill in the air, he approached the hospital bed, quite surprised to see a stranger there; he didnât know how much of the prior conversation she had heard. After sizing up the young girl and realizing she was just that, he let go of his concerns.
He repeated what he had said earlier, âHow did you end up here?â
Choosing to ignore and overlook the presence of the stranger,
âI was worried about you,â Liang Xueyan forced a smile, her focus still on his earlier words, âYou didnât meet the IEG leader?â
âYes.â
Liang Xueyan covered a trace of disappointment and dejection with a sigh.
Since there was an outsider in the hospital room, they both refrained from saying much.
Wang Yanzhuo even suppressed his dissatisfaction, finding an excuse for himself, âItâs too dangerous. You are not allowed to do this again.â
To someone unaware, it would seem he was concerned for his wife.
However, in reality, his concern was all too superficial. He said to his wife, âYouâve worked hard,â and upon seeing the newborn, he only peeked at the gender by parting the swaddling briefly before his gaze shifted away.
Liang Xueyan silently re-wrapped the child in the blanket.
Mrs. Wang, ever so attentive, brought over a chair and a cup of water, having found a solid support, she subtly complained, âSir, so much has happened today!â@@novelbin@@
âOh?â
Liang Xueyan quickly spoke up, âYes, today, this younger sister Lu saved me. If it werenât for her, the child and I might have lost our lives.â
Wang Yanzhuo, already informed by Mrs. Wang of the assassination attempt, reassuringly patted his wifeâs hand, exuding integrity, âDonât worry, I will definitely look into this matter. But really, you shouldnât have traveled so far when you were about to give birthâ¦â
ââ¦â Liang Xueyan ultimately did not pursue anything further, only repeating, âSister Lu is the savior of me and the child, we should properly thank her.â
After being reminded over and over again, Wang Yanzhuo couldnât pretend to misunderstand and finally gave Lu Mian a look, one that held a condescending disdain.
After all, she was just a female student. She may look alright, but how capable could she be?
