Lu Mian paused, and beneath her sunglasses, her clear eyes swept over a figure rushing by not far away.
The person was not tall, with an ordinary face, blending into the crowd without drawing any attention.
But for some inexplicable reason, Lu Mian thought of someone.
The stranger, plain and unremarkable, in Xiao Qimoâs office.
These two people didnât look alike, but both had the kind of temperament that would disappear in a crowd, almost invisible. The other person, silent and terse, carried a simple suitcase and walked forward with his head down.
A fleeting illusion made Lu Mian halt; for a second, she subconsciously thought that Xiao Qimo had arrived.
She was really overthinking it.
A self-deprecating smile slowly formed on her lips as Lu Mian unconsciously pushed at her sunglasses, an action that brought to mind the face of a debonair scoundrel.
âDamn!â
Lu Mian cursed quietly to herself, at a loss for words. She shook her chic, neat short hair as if to shake that face out of her mind.
She was in dire need of a brain cleanse, hmm.
After pausing for just over ten seconds, Lu Mian collected her thoughts, pulled the collar of her sweatshirt up to cover everything below her lips, and plunged into the ceaseless stream of people.
There was a taxi stand near the airport, and Lu Mian, with her backpack in hand, called for a cab and got in.
The taxi driver smiled as he flipped the âavailableâ sign to âoccupiedâ and glanced back.
âWhere to, miss?â He was taken aback as he looked.
Wow, what a cool girl! Tall and slender with short hair, she looked no older than twenty, wearing sunglasses, her collar covering half of her face. Even though he could not see her full face, her presence felt more stunning than the celebrities on TV.
Lu Mian was not surprised by this kind of attention. She casually tossed her backpack into the backseat and gave the name of a hotel.
âAlrighty!â
The driver cheerfully responded. His accented Mandarin softened slightly as he smoothly started the car.
Hong City was a bustling coastal city, frequently topping the lists of popular tourist destinations. Lu Mian was clearly a little uncomfortable with the large number of visitors in the city chosen for this conference.
She turned her head and thought that among the tourists passing by, there might be her colleagues, a group of potential big-shots.
Uninterested in other peopleâs business, she huddled in the corner of the back seat as soon as she got in the taxi, buried in her game without enjoying the passing scenery.
The friendly driver in front occasionally chatted with her about Hong Cityâs attractions, to which she responded with a faint smile and a few words, not particularly talkative.
The taxi moved along, not very smoothly due to the traffic, stopping and starting.
After finally getting a chance to drive smoothly for a while, the driver suddenly hit the brakes.@@novelbin@@
Under the strong inertia, Lu Mianâs body leaned forward, almost hitting the front seat. Fortunately, her fast reflexes and stability prevented any harm.
The driver looked back at her fearfully, seeing that she was unharmed, he appeared somewhat astonished but also quietly relieved.
âWhat happened?â Lu Mian asked, her gaze lowered, completely calm.
âJust sit tight, miss. Iâll go check it out,â the driver said as he got out of the car urgently.
Next to the taxi stood a middle-aged woman who had suddenly dashed out to stop the car.
The middle-aged woman was anxiously yelling, âSir, my mistressâs water just broke, please take us to the hospital!â
The driver looked at the middle-aged woman with a hint of suspicion for staging an accident, then glanced to the roadside, where indeed, there was a beautiful pregnant woman sitting, her belly protruding prominently.
At that moment, she was pale and in agony, clutching her belly as sweat soaked through her clothes.
Is she really going into labor?
