Xiao Qimo stared at Yu Ren for a few seconds.
His scorching gaze swept from top to bottom, puzzled.
Could it be that the little rascal likes this type?
Xiao Qimo was somewhat distracted, due to irritation.
When he snapped back to reality, he unexpectedly discovered a hint of triumph in Yu Renâs eyes, amplifying the irritation in his heart.
Yet, he had no choice but to suppress the fluctuating emotions and silently watch Lu Mian, waiting for what she would say next.
This was the secret competition between mature men.
Calm and collected, with no communication, clashing in silence.
Fat Hao and Shouhao beside them grew even more uncomfortable, simultaneously stepping back to escape the odd circle.
Half a meter away, Lu Mian, the concerned party, remained clueless. She stood erect, prim, and serious.
But her action was rather dandy, as she laid a hand on Yu Renâs shoulder, leaning in a bit closer to him.
Xiao Qimoâs heart sank.
Her choice isâ¦
Yu Ren let out a slight sigh of relief, but Lu Mian by his side spoke again.
âHandsome Yu, my chauffeur is here, Iâm heading home!â
Chauffeurâ¦
The whole place fell silent.
A suffocating silence.
The brothers Fat Hao and Shouhao, covertly staring at the man mistaken for a chauffeur, Director Qimo, huddled together quivering.
A complex look flickered in Yu Renâs slender eyes.
âThe Chosen Oneâ Xiao Qimo, the chauffeur, didnât look too pleased either, victorious yet disappointed. After all, to the drunk Lu Mian, he probably only held the status of a chauffeur. Had he shown up a bit earlier, he might have even played the role of a student.
The little rascal!
Truly deserving of the title King of Sarcasm!
Since it was Lu Mianâs own choice, there was nothing much they could say. Xiao Qimo, the chauffeur, could only dutifully escort her out, and having won, he couldnât help but give Yu Ren a meaningful glance as he passed by.
Yu nodded respectfully, cordially seeing them off.
Fat Hao and Shouhao also took this opportunity to weakly excuse themselves and head home.
Xiao Qimo took Lu Mian out through the restaurantâs door.
Ye Jinwen was driving back and forth looking for a parking space when he saw them come out, so he quickly drove over. Sticking his head out for a look, he was so startled that he abandoned the car and leapt out.
âSeventh Brother, Little Mianmian is drunk again!â He was on the verge of madness.
Xiao Qimo grunted in acknowledgment, opened the car door for Lu Mian, and let her get in. He then followed and sat in the back seat, embodying the demeanor of a boss, waiting for the driver to start the car.
Ye Jinwen, with every brain cell in denial, stood outside shaking his head frantically: âIâm not driving! I wonât drive even if you kill me!â
âHer class is over,â Xiao Qimo said indifferently.
Their conversation was strange, but Ye Jinwen understood.
âWell, thatâs good thenâ¦â he settled back into the driverâs seat, as if he had narrowly escaped disaster.
The car slowly started up, heading towards Jincheng No. 1.
Ye Jinwen exchanged glances with Xiao Qimo through the rear-view mirror and cast another look at Professor Lu, who was sitting quietly and obediently. Tsk tsk.
âSeventh Brother, why is Little Mianmian here?â
The scholarly man didnât raise his eyes but methodically covered Lu Mian with a thin blanket. His deep eyes were restrained, and without answering the question, he simply gave an order.
âLook into the owner of MM Ji Restaurant.â
After saying that, he added
âAnd make sure to do a thorough check!â
Ye Jinwen confused, kept pressing him on what it was all about. Xiao Qimo, annoyed, explained in a less-than-pleasant tone, especially emphasizing Lu Mian and Yu Renâs friendship.
After a moment of silence, Ye Jinwen said,
âSeventh Brother, do you feel like thereâs a hint of HâSOâ in the car?â
