56 Unspoken Harmonies Maxwell had crafted two new songs for his upcoming concert, dedicated to Emmaâs freedom from her tumultuous marriage. When Tom reviewed the lyrics, he expressed concern.
âThese songs celebrate Emmaâs divorce, but the lyrics are quite direct. Referring to her exâhusband as a âbeastâ seems excessive, donât you think?â Tom questioned cautiously.
Maxwell, unfazed, replied firmly, âIâm making a point. If youâre on my side, donât question it. These songs are meant to make a statement. Keep your doubts to yourself.â
Tom knew arguing with Maxwell was futile. Maxwellâs determination often bordered on stubbornness, and the controversial lyrics worried him.
âWhatâs your plan for the music? Are you going to compose it yourself or involve someone else?â
Maxwell revealed, âI want Emma to compose the music. Her previous compositions were impressive, so sheâs the right choice for these. Any problem with that?â
Tom was taken aback. Having Emma compose music for songs with such pointed lyrics seemed like an unnecessarily harsh approach.
Two days later, Emma called Tom, perplexed by the lyrics.
âAre you sure Maxwell doesnât want to change these lyrics? Theyâre quite bold considering our past,â
Emma said, struggling to reconcile the idea of composing music for such content.
Tom, uneasy about the lyricsâ implications, replied, âIf you can convince Maxwell to reconsider, Iâd appreciate it. He wonât listen to me. It might be best coming from you.
Emma sighed, recognizing the challenge but ultimately deciding to proceed with the compositions. If it helped Maxwell release his pentâup anger and move forward, she was willing to contribute.
The composing process was swift, with Emma dedicating two days to perfect the melodies, Jada found humor in the situation, âI canât believe Maxwell has you doing this! Itâs quite the twist, isnât it?â
Bonnie, unaware of the lyricsâ details, expected the concert to be anything but ordinary, knowing Maxwellâs penchant for the dramatic.
âHave you considered talking him out of it?â Jada prodded.
âIf I thought it would help, I would,â Emma replied, âbut honestly, the lyrics arenât far from the truth.
The conversation soon turned to an upcoming party hosted by Viola and Desmond, two of Emmaâs childhood friends. Viola and Desmond, twins, had left abruptly years ago, and their return was creating a buzz.
Jada was excited about their return, âThey left without saying goodbye, and now theyâre coming back.
56 Unspoken Harmonies When do they arrive? We should meet them at the airport!â
Desmond, in particular, had harbored secret feelings for Emma, and his decision to study abroad was partly an attempt to distance himself from his unrequited love. Now, with Emmaâs divorce, Desmond might see a new opportunity.
Jada playfully hinted at Desmondâs past crush, which Emma quickly brushed off, not wanting to complicate their friendship.
With her business commitments and the responsibility of her familyâs legacy, Emma knew romance was a luxury she couldnât afford. Jada and Bonnie acknowledged this, understanding that for Emma, stability was paramount.
