115 The Consequences of Betrayal In the Smirnoffsâ family living room, tension crackled in the air. Gable, the usually composed medical practitioner, paced restlessly, a scalpel twirling in his fingers. The family watched in stunned silence, aware that this was no ordinary display of frustration.
âWhat on earth are you planning with that, Gab?â Emma, his sister, questioned cautiously, eyeing the scalpel warily. Her voice was tinged with concern and confusion.
Gable stopped, his gaze intense. âWhat if I just undid everything? Alexâs legs, Lillianâs arm⦠I fixed them once, I can unfix them.â
The room fell into a deeper silence. Emma sighed heavily, âGab, Iâve cut ties with them. Your actionsâ¦
they wonât change the past.â
Gableâs face hardened. âThey wronged you, Emma. I canât just stand by. If not for you, I would have never saved them in the first place.â
Emma, torn between her desire for peace and Gableâs anger, tried to reason with him. âRevenge isnât the answer. This wonât bring any peace.â
But Gable was resolute, anger burning in his eyes. âThey need to face consequences for their actions.
They took advantage of your kindness, Emma. I wonât let them get away with it.â
As Gable stormed out, Wayne, the family patriarch, tried to intervene, his grip firm on Gableâs arm. This isnât you, Gable. Think of the consequences.â
Gable shook off his hand. âIâve thought about it, and Iâve decided. They must pay for what theyâve done to Emma.â
In the heat of the moment, Alexâs call came through. Gableâs voice was icy as he answered, âSave your gratitude, Alex. If you truly want to thank me, return what Iâve given. I regret ever helping you.â
Alex, on the other end, struggled to process Gableâs words. âGable, surely thereâs been some misunderstandingâ¦â
âThereâs no misunderstanding,â Gable snapped. âYou and Emma are done. And since you mistreated her, donât expect any mercy from me. You have a day to give me an answer.â
Hanging up, Gable left the house, his familyâs pleas fading behind him.
Wayne sighed, turning to Emma. âWe canât support this, but we canât stop him either. Heâs too far gone.â
Emma, her face a mixture of sadness and resignation, nodded. âI know. Gableâs always been protective. But this⦠this is too much.â
The Smirnoff family could only hope that Gableâs rage wouldnât lead to irreparable damage. But deep down, they knew their hope was thin. Gable, once a healer, had turned into an avenger, and there was no telling how far he would go to right the wrongs done to his sister.
