when no answer came from inside, jian began to turn the door handle. i looked at the rattling door and trembled.
âisnât that door going to break because itâs old?â
what should i do if she opens it? should i just kick her and run away? as i contemplated on my choices, jian opened her mouth again.
âyoung lady edith abina! young ladyâ¦!â
bang bang!
i was taken aback by her knocking on the door and crying my name out loud. what is she trying to do?
i had no choice but to open the door and stuck out my head without fully unlocking the lock. i didnât even want to let others know i was here, knowing i used lirinaâs name to buy adrian.
âwhat are you doing here, saintess?â
âyoung lady! iâm glad youâre safe!â
jian smiled broadly after checking my bitter face. she opened her mouth, pushing her gentle face close through the cracks of the door.
âcan you open the door for me?â
why is she so obsessed with the door?
i shook my head firmly as i looked at her face blocked and pressed by the door a bit grotesquely.
âi donât want to. if you have anything to say, say it outside the door.â
âfirst of all, i-i want to apologize to the young lady. no matter how worried i was, i was wrong to let the man know who young lady was. iâm sorry.â
i donât know if her intention can be called a mistake, but i listened to her words with one ear and let them spill out the other.
âyes, i will accept your apology. now go back.â
nodding roughly, i pushed the door close, but jian put her hand in between the gaps and cried out, ânow, wait a minute!â
âtake your hand out, or youâll get hurt,â i said indifferently, losing no strength in pushing on the door.
âdonât you want to expose the marquis?!â
as if it didnât hurt, jian continued as she blocked the closing door with her long spider-like arms.
âi know what he did to you! iâll help edith accuse him before the temple!â
i frowned at jianâs hasty words.
âhow does jian know that the marquis tried to do something terrible to me?â
âerr, curtis told me.â
sheâs flying around and light-mouthed.
i smiled as i recalled curtisâ heartless face.
âiâll take care of the marquis myself. saint, i donât need your help, so please leave me alone.â
jian chewed her lips nervously at my mocking words.
âi canât leave edith alone,â she murmured.
âwhy?â
âbecause iâm a saint. itâs my duty to help people in need.â
stunned, i shrugged my shoulders at jianâs excuse.
âthere are a lot of people who are struggling, straight that way and turn left. they are all over the place. help them instead.â
i gave jian the location of the street beggars, but instead of leaving for the more needy, she clung more tightly to the door.
âno, i really want to help the young lady. i am responsible for you being in this situation.â
âi mean, damn it,â i said as my eyes turned cold toward jian, who was like a leech, âi said i donât need your help.â
bang!
when i pushed the door so hard it made a noise, jian shook her arm, but she didnât fall from the door.
âget out of here. why are you so dumb?â i told her.
âhey, young lady⦠ugh, how could you say such a harsh word?â
i glared my eyes at the tearful jian, and replied, âdo you want to get hit again? do you want me to rip your mouth so you wonât make a fuss the next time?â
i really meant it. i wanted to grab that pretty face and rip her apart. iâm having a hard time because of her. why is she disturbing me in the first place?!
i knew edith was obsessed with curtis, but there was no reason for jian to disturb me now. at least if it was the game story i knew.
âhuuu⦠but this time, young lady is really in danger! please believe me!â
jian, who began to cry, trembled and started pleading. it was repulsive.
âi saw the marquis abina running wild, saying that young lady made debt to the marquis.â
i trembled at jianâs words.
ââ¦where?â
âright around here. i was looking for the young lady.â
the marquis of abina is approaching.
