ââ¦â
The voice that followed belonged to Curtis. However, as I had been obsessed with thinking of a way to increase Edithâs collapse rate, I didnât hear him calling out to me.
âEdith Abina!â
I suddenly came to my senses as the door opened and Curtis called me again.
âWhat the hell were you doing in your room?â
He seemed to be suspicious of me these days, who was being well-behaved. I sighed a little surprised with him looking at me with his sharp eyes.
âI didnât do anything.â
Thanks to the hard work of raising the collapse rate, I could hold conversations that didnât have to do with the game progress at my will.
âWhat brought you here to see me?â I said with a frown, as I couldnât wait to send Curtis out and think privately.
ââ¦It looks like youâre bothered by my presence,â he noted.
I didnât answer Curtisâ comment. Taking my silence as a yes, he sneered and continued.
âOkay. I didnât know how your obsession disappeared, but itâs a pleasure for me.â
ââ¦â
âYou shouldnât do anything as crazy as trying to kill yourself anymore, saying that you canât live the life other than being the Grand Dukeâs Lady of Caballero.â
He spoke with a voice that seethed resentment for tying myself to the marquis while creating a commotion with my suicide attempt. Unlike his cold-hearted expression, Curtis was the kind of person that felt responsible for Edithâs actions, so it was understandable.
âI didnât jump out of the window because of Curtis,â I spoke calmly to ease his guilt, âI didnât want to die because of you.â
âThen why did you suddenly want to die? It was just before I was ordained as the saintâ knight.â
âTo log out.â
I only murmured the truth inside my head, but as I stayed silent, options related to Curtisâ question blocked my view. I waved my hand in the air as the options were full of hanging lines such as âAre you worried about me now?â and âIf youâre worried about me, then donât be Jianâs knight!â
Whether he became Jianâs knight or not, I didnât care as long as I could get out of the game.
âThis is the first time you ignored meâ¦â
Curtisâ expression, staring at me when I chose silence instead, was strangely distorted. His face, pale as a northernerâs, turned paler as if heâd seen a ghost.
He was stunningly handsome even with his stunned face, but my eyes shined at the more eye-catching writing in my view.
The collapse rate increased?
It also went up as much as 3%. It wasnât an illusion as it obviously changed.
The collapse rate barely raised by sweeping and wiping the castle all day was 3%, but it went up 3% after only a few conversations!
I walked out of my seat to make sure the reason was really because of Curtis. Edith wouldnât have left if he wanted to talk to her.
When I act differently, the number changes automatically. Perhaps because Curtis was the main character, and Edithâs behavior related to him seemed too unusual, the collapse rate increased more.
âAn interaction that would never happen with Edith and Curtis togetherâ¦â
âJian, where is the saint?â
âIf you are looking for the saint, she is taking a walk in the garden, Young Lady.â
After asking one of the servants and finding where Jian was, I hurried to immediately put to action what came into my mind.
* * *
âSaint, so you are here!â
âHuh?â
Jian raised her head to my voice and smiled lightly.
âYoung Lady Ebina,â she greeted me, âThe Marquisâ garden is nice because the sun is warm.â
She was sitting on a bench in the middle of a hydrangea garden, looking much like the gameâs heroine.
âCan I sit down?â I said as I sat next to her without waiting for her answer, nodding at her gentle greeting, âI have something to say to the Saint about His Highness Caballero.â
Jian replied without much surprise, despite the unusual politeness of Edith, âHis Highness Caballero, do you mean Curtis?â
âYes.â
She slowly opened her mouth after tapping at her scarlet lips for a while as if she was troubled by my positive attitude.
âIf youâre worried about me, donât do that, Young Lady.â
Jian stroked the back of my hand as if concerned about my health when instilled her holy power into me, who had already recovered quite some time already.
