STORY

PRINCE IN EXILE659 words~4 min read

'Vijayalaya was the founder of the Imperial Chola dynasty. Then there were many kings after him. His descendants who ruled the Chola empire so well that a war never broke out. But the empire became stronger under the rule of RAJENDRA CHOLA in 958BC. He bought many kings in to his empire and formed an army to destroy the enemies who tried occupying India back in 900's.

He built temples, did many donations, took care of his people. But seeing all these the Pandiyans couldn't rest. They were always against the Cholas which was the powerful empire in the whole south India so they started conflicts between people.

Eventually the kingdom started to deteriorate but then the first Aditya chola bought back everything with his leadership. Many things have changed: people, places, buildings, Kings, leaders but the enemity between Pandiyans and Cholas never changed.

So Raja Raja Chola the third decided to stay in peace and not fight. Then he took his trusted ministers and some guards and formed a pact with then Pandiyan King to a betrothal between the Prince of Chola empire and Princess of Pandiyan empire.

Unfortunately there was no Princess born to the Pandiyan Kings that time. When Agasthya's father was the King there was a Princess born into the family. Princess Varalakshmi Pandiyan who is Princess Nandika's aunt.

They married her to Prince Rajendra the second of the Chola empire who was the brother of King Aditya Chola the second. The King was Agasthya's father. The marriage is done, pact is kept well and seeing all this happiness King Aditya Chola decided to renew the pact. So he discussed the betrothal between Agasthya and Princess Nandika too.

Everything went well. It was a night of celebration and everyone was happy in the Chola palace that night of the wedding. But then they heard a yell of the guards. There were bullets raining into the palace bodies falling everywhere. Guru Pandiyan stabbed the Chola kingdom in the back.

He poisoned everyone that night and his sister stabbed Prince Rajendra Chola in their marital chamber brutally. Though our people could fight back with their powers their life source was slowly fading. The only thing my father Kumara Sharma was determined was to save the Chola empire.

So he sent Agasthya and me into hiding. We were five at that time and Prince was three. They shot their mother, killed every male and tried assaulting women infront of us. They didn't spare children too.Watching all this Aditya Chola couldn't die leaving his people in despair so he used his last breath left in him and set the palace on fire so his people would die a quick death instead of the unending torture.

So many died that night turned into ashes but the Pandiyans escaped using their powers. Agasthya's uncle saved Prince giving his bracelet and pushed him out. Everything burned that night our parents, our people, our fates and our humanity too' Karthik ended the story with tears in his eyes.

"They killed the children in us. We had to grow up early. Plan their destruction. Kill their arrogance, their pride, their bloodline" Prince gritted out.

"That's why boss is like that. Empty, cold and souless" Raaha concluded.

"We had to live on streets. Beg for food. Revenge towards the Pandiyans was the only motto that kept us alive" Karthik exclaimed.

"That made us killers too. We worked hard, burned down bigshots, killed people, earned money but never could go out and proudly say that we're the royals. The great Cholas. They made us the unknown" Prince hissed.

"Why now? Why did you decide to come out now?" Raaha asked.

"Our plan against them started eighteen years back. We decided to bring back our people whoever survived together, restoring our powers but we didn't expect Guru Pandiyan to marry his daughter this early. So we had to speed up the plan and hence kidnapped the Princess" Karthik explained.
