I had to take a second after what Wolf said. Sloane wanted to meet his folks? For real?
I had him sit at this point. He wasnât looking right, and I needed to take a seat too. Sloane knew everything.
Sloane knew Iâd lied.
Of course, Iâd suspected I might have been a factor in why sheâd run. Especially after Iâd realized she not only had a phone with which to contact me if she needed help, but also that Thatcher had given her and Bru a laptop to use. The pair had had internet access.
Which meant sheâd gotten my emails.
Sheâd gotten it all, but still hadnât reached out to me. That meant something, and with what Wolf was telling me nowâ¦
âShe said she wants to meet them,â he continued. He still had his hat in his hands, wrestling with it. He stared toward the hallway. âIâm sure thatâs what sheâs telling Bru.â
Well, that was good news. Great news. âWell, then we should call Ramses and Brielle then.â Fuck, bring her over there now. âWe can get this all going.â
âBut what if itâs too soon?â He was fucking the shit up out of his hat, and he tossed it on the couch. âYou didnât see her face when we were talking about all this shit. She looked horrified when we were talking about the fucked-up things my grandpa and great-uncle Leo did.â His pained expression twisted my stomach. His head shook. âYour grandfather may have helped, but it was my family who asked the favor. That family is also hers. This legacy is hers, and who knows what she thinks about it.â
I knew what I would. I knew what I did. There were monsters residing in our world, and I didnât have clean hands either. She had a right to fear us and definitely had a right to fear me.
Iâd done some dark shit.
âMy parents have been through so much.â He held his arms. âIf Sloane runs again, I know itâs going to break them. I donât know if sheâs really ready, but even if sheâs not, I canât keep this shit from my folks.â
He wouldnât, and I couldnât. We couldnât keep our parents out any longer, and I refused. âWeâre not keeping anything from them. Weâll call them up. Call mine, Thatcherâs, and Wellsâs too. Weâll tell them the truth but convince them all to give Sloane at least a night. Itâs late anyway, and she should have that. Just one night before everything changes.â
I didnât know what I was saying, but I did know what I was doing. I was still fighting for her.
Because I still loved her.
I was willing to fight our families who I knew would come crashing through the walls of this place if they knew she was here, but I didnât care. I didnât want her to run again, and maybe if she didnât, we could keep her here.
I could keep her.
Wolfâs head was shaking before I even finished what I said. âYou know theyâre not going to stand for that.â
I did know that, and itâd probably take all four of us to make them see the light, but we had to try. âWell, weâre just going to have to convince them. If we donât want her to run again, we have to do this delicately.â
âThatâs why I went to her by myself.â Wolfâs knuckle brushed his nose. âI guess Thatcher had something. I figured if he got her to trust him that way, Iâd try it.â He smirked a little before looking at me. âI still might kill him, though.â
âOnly if I get the first shot.â
Wolf laughed, sitting back. âBefore the families come, you should probably talk to her. I told her none of this was your fault. The lies and shit, and it sounds like your grandfather was actually trying to help her.â
Iâd believe that with cold hard evidence but wasnât trying to think about that now. We needed to focus on what weâd say to our parents, and I would talk to her. I just didnât know when.
Let alone how.
