Chapter 11 â The Dragonâs Fury
âCaptain! What should we do!?â
The soldierâs voice trembled as explosions roared across the battlefield. The squad huddled behind the shattered remains of an old defense tower. Dust and fire filled the sky. The faint blue glow of the Empireâs airships lit the horizon like a storm of monsters.
The squad leader didnât answer at first. His eyes were locked on the massive creature looming above themâa crimson-scaled dragon soaring through the air. Its roar shook the very ground.
âDamn,â one soldier muttered, gripping his rifle. âItâs huge⦠like a raid boss!â
âYeah,â another added, voice cracking. âNo way that Skyrealm player can beat something like that!â
Across the field, a cloaked assassin from Skyrealm stood calmly, twin daggers shimmering with void light. He smirked.
âYouâre right,â he said. âA single Skyrealm player canât beat that monstrosityâ¦â
He raised his hand toward the airships. âGood thing I brought backup.â
The soldiers froze as the top hatch of an airship opened. A lone figure sat thereâbare-chested, his body marked with glowing runes, two massive swords resting beside him. He stretched, rolled his neck, and grinned.
âOh? Thatâs my cue.â
Then he jumped.
The airship rocked violently as the man leapt from it. Wind screamed around him, and for a moment, it was as if a meteor was falling from the sky.
âDragon Fury Strike!!â he roared.
A blinding light filled the field as he descended, both swords igniting in flame. The attack slammed into the dragon with a thunderous BOOM, sending shockwaves across the entire valley. The beast roared in agony, wings folding as it crashed into the earth, leaving a crater in its wake.
âHolyâ!â one of the soldiers gasped. âHe just knocked it down in one hit!â
Abysroseârider of the fallen dragonâglared at the new arrival. âDo you think you can defeat me that easily!?â she shouted, raising her staff. âHeal!â
Golden light enveloped the dragon, its wounds closing as it lifted its head again. Smoke billowed from its nostrils.
The man dusted himself off and smiled. âAllow me to introduce myself properly,â he said. âThe nameâs Raggan⦠or, in-game, call me R466N.â
Abysrose narrowed her eyes. Not an Empire soldier, she thought. A mercenary, maybe? But where did they find someone with this kind of power
She activated her Inspect skill brieflyâno affiliation tag. That meant he wasnât bound to any world faction. Her chest tightened.
âA cross-playerâ¦â she whispered.
The squad leaderâs eyes widened. âAbysrose! Be carefulâheâs a cross-player!â
Every soldier nearby froze. Cross-playersâthose who dared to travel between worlds, breaking game barriers for strength. Powerful⦠but unstable. And if they died outside their home game, there was no respawn. It meant they fought without fearâor mercy.
Raggan spun his twin blades. âCome on, Red Dragon Rider! Letâs see if your fire can match mine!â
Abysrose smirked. âVery well. Donât regret it.â

The dragon rose once more, beating its massive wings and filling the battlefield with embers. Its eyes burned with crimson rage. Abysrose mounted it again, holding her staff tight.
âInferno Barrage!â
Fireballs rained down like a meteor shower. Raggan leapt from blast to blast, his movements too fast for the soldiers to follow. Every impact made the ground tremble.
âUnbelievableâ¦â the captain muttered. âHeâs fighting her head-on!â
Abysrose clenched her teeth. âHeâs more powerful than I thought⦠at this rate, weâll lose.â
Her dragon took a heavy hit from one of Ragganâs strikes, roaring in pain. She looked back toward her teamâher allies, still pinned down by the Empireâs troops.
They need timeâ¦
âCaptain!â she shouted. âMy dragon will hold them off! That should buy us enough time to escape!â
âGot it!â the squad leader yelled.
She leapt from her dragonâs back, landing beside the squad, summoning smaller dragon familiars from glowing portals.
âGet everyone on! Theyâll carry you to safety!â
The soldiers hesitated for only a second before obeying. The small dragons spread their wings, lifting the group into the air.
âLetâs go! Hold on tight!â Abysrose commanded.
But Raggan saw them. His eyes narrowed. âOh no you donât.â
He hurled one of his twin blades, energy bursting from its edge as it tore through the sky. Abysroseâs eyes widened. Too fast! But before it hit, her dragon movedâtaking the full strike. The beast roared, collapsing in front of her as the soldiers soared away.
Abysrose turned back, eyes blazing. She locked her gaze on Cass3, the pink-haired traitor who stood beside Raggan and the Skyrealm assassin.
âThis isnât over,â she whispered.
Raggan retrieved his sword, sighing. âDamn⦠that wasnât an ordinary summon. Felt like fighting a raid boss mixed with a playerâs spirit.â
Cass3 smirked. âOf course not. Countless Star companions have hybrid systemsâpart AI, part spirit code. They evolve based on their masterâs emotions.â
Raggan chuckled. âHeh. Sounds annoying.â
âShould we chase them?â Raggan asked, resting one blade on his shoulder.
The Skyrealm assassin shook his head. âNo. The missionâs complete. We got what we came for. No point wasting resources.â
He looked toward the direction Abysrose had fled, his expression darkening. âBut this isnât overâ¦â
----------------------------------------
Hours later, the surviving soldiers landed near a mountain ridge. Smoke still rose from the distant battlefield.
âI think⦠they didnât follow us,â one soldier said, breathing heavily.
âFinallyâ¦â another muttered, falling to the ground. âWe made it back aliveâ¦â
The squad leader nodded. âGood work, everyone.â
Abysrose dismounted her smaller dragon, exhaustion clear in her face.
âHey, good work, Abby,â a soldier said. âYou saved us back there.â
Abysrose smiled faintly. âConsider it thanks⦠for saving us on the train earlier.â
âWe should reach the Resistance base soon,â another said. âJust a few more miles.â
Abysrose turned to the purple-haired girl, Nova, who was clutching her injured arm. âAre you okay? Does it hurt?â
âIâm fine,â Nova replied softly. âJust a scratch.â
Abysrose lowered her gaze. âI shouldnât have dragged you into this⦠She was right. This is my fault.â
Nova shook her head. âDonât blame yourself. No one couldâve imagined Cass3 was with the Empireâ¦â
The captain approached. âSheâs right. You saved lives today. Thatâs what matters.â
Abysrose nodded slightly, though guilt still lingered in her chest.
A moment of silence passed as the wind howled across the mountain.
âCaptain,â Abysrose said suddenly. âI have a request.â
The captain raised an eyebrow. âYeah? What is it?â
âLet me join the Resistance.â
The squad fell silent. âWhat? Are you sure? Youâre one of Countless Starâs elite players! You know that right?,â the captain said firmly.
Abysrose looked him straight in the eyes. âI will. But I canât just stand by while the Empire destroys everything. I want to protect Countless Star⦠and every other world thatâs falling under their control. Iâm sure.â
The captain paused, then smiled faintly. âWell⦠if you say soâwelcome aboard, Starborn.â
The soldiers cheered weakly, some clapping her on the back. Nova smiled through her fatigue. âTake care of yourself, Abby.â
âYou too, Nova,â Abysrose replied.
As the group marched toward the Resistance outpost, the captain gazed into the fading sunset.
Ryze⦠I hope youâre okay out there.
âSir,â a soldier called, pointing ahead. âWeâre almost there.â
The captain nodded, tightening his grip on his weapon. âRight⦠letâs go home.â
