Amina
<>
The rest of the week dragged on uneventfully. The highlight was my smoke session with Dominic. He was so much easier to be around when he wasn't being an asshole. But sadly every other time I saw him this week he gave me nothing but a cold shoulder.
I didn't understand him at all. I didn't understand boys at all. Aaron never called either, what was up with that? I refused to call him because he said he would call me but never did. Now I was going to have to face him at the twin's birthday party.
If I was being honest I wasn't looking forward to the party. Between school and work, I was just tired and not in the mood to socialize. I wanted to just stay home and relax but they would never let me live it down if I skipped out on their birthday.
"Ami are you ready!" A loud voice yells as I hear knocking on my door.
I sigh before opening, "Give me 5 more minutes."
Kendra sighs, "We're already late as is! You know parking sucks in their neighborhood." She complains as she grabs her purse. She was dressed in a snake print crop top and blue ripped jeans.
I chuckle before applying another layer of lip gloss and spraying perfume. I was wearing a cream halter top bodysuit and blue ripped jeans.
"Ladies hurry up!" I hear Kendra exclaim as she jingles her keys.
"Calm your tits I'm here." I chuckle as I enter the living room.
"Sorry guys!" Bianca exclaims as she rushes out of her room dressed in a cute t-shirt dress and sneakers.
We make our way outside to head down to the parking lot. As I exited the apartment, locking the door behind me, Dominic was coming up the stairs ahead of us.
We briefly made eye contact as we passed each other and instead of the cold shoulder, I got a momentary gaze. He looked me over before continuing to make his way to his door.
I rolled my eyes before doing the same, not saying a word as I made my way down the apartment steps.
The drive to the guys' house wasn't long considering they lived close by, but as we feared parking was horrendous. We ended up parking six houses down and having to walk the rest of the way.
"See why I wanted to get here earlier? I'm too pretty to be walking."
"Oh hush Ken it's not that bad."
"If you weren't making googly eyes at our neighbor maybe we would've gotten a better spot." She says jokingly.
"Are you still messing with Dominic?" Bianca asks suddenly.
My eyes widen, "Who said I was messing with him? Nothing going on."
She smirks as Kendra holds in her laughter. "I'm not dumb Ami. I used to hear you all the time. I'm always home. Plus, you were giggling with him outside last night."
I sighed, I had been caught. "Nothing's going on. He's weird." I state simply as we finally make it to the door. Both girls looked unconvinced but didn't push it as we entered the house.
The guys' place was a lot more crowded than usual. And that was saying a lot since it was usually a house full of college boys.
The house was full, with college students in every corner. People were sitting around talking, some dancing, and others playing games.
It was nothing like the back-to-school party though. This was much more relaxed and nobody seemed out of their right state of mind despite the presence of alcohol. There were plenty of girls here, but the male-to-female ratio was nowhere near even.
"You made it after all." Isaiah greets us as he meets us at the front door.
"Happy birthday dummy." Kendra says as she punches Isaiah on the arm.
"Ow!"
I smirk, "Happy birthday from me too!" I exclaim before giving him another punch.
"Ow! Okay thank you please stop."
"Happy birthday Isaiah." Bianca greets appropriately.
He smiles at her, "Thank you. See that's how a normal person does it." He says scolding the two of us, "Anyway, make yourselves comfortable. Caleb is in the kitchen and there are drinks in the backyard."
We nod in understanding as he gets pulled away by some other guests for a game. "To the kitchen?" I suggest.
"I think I'll just go take a seat in the living room." Bianca says.
Kendra shakes her head, "Nuh-uh, you're speaking to Caleb today whether you like it or not."
"Plus it would be rude to not greet the birthday boy." I nod in agreement. Before she could protest Kendra and I were pushing her in the direction of the kitchen.
Caleb was leaning against the kitchen counter talking with some girl when he saw us. "Hey, you guys made it." He says with a smile as the girl suddenly walks away.
"Happy birthday Caleb." I say as I hug him.
"Yeah happy birthday old man." Kendra says giving him a softer punch, making him laugh.
"Thanks you guys."
My eyes look to Bianca who seemed frozen in place. Kendra gives her a gentle nudge, snapping her out of her trance. "Um, happy birthday." She says in a hushed tone that could barely be heard over the music.
Caleb chuckles, "Thanks Bianca, it's good to see you." He looks at the rest of us, "You guys go mingle. I've got celebrating to do."
He walks away, in the direction of the girl he was talking to before. I look over at Bianca who looked to still be in shock.
"Are you good?" I ask her.
Kendra sighs, "Oh gosh. This is exactly what she did last time. I'm going to loosen her up. Why don't you go find Aaron and smack him silly?"
I snort out a laugh, "That sounds like a good idea, I'll be back."
"We'll be here." She says as she picks up a drink.
I make my way through the party, maneuvering around and saying hi to people I know. Until I finally spotted him. Aaron was in the backyard with some people playing some kind of drinking game. I approach them confidently to see if I can get in.
They were gathered around a table outside playing what looked to be another version of beer pong. I watched as one of the guys bounced the ball into the cup, making everyone cheer.
"Ami hey! Come over here." Aaron urges as soon as he sees me. I was hesitant but I went to the other side of the table where he was. "How've you been?" He asks as he hugs me.
I scoff, "Wouldn't you like to know?"
He raises a brow at me as someone throws another ball into a cup, making everyone cheer. "What's with the cold shoulder?"
"When you ask for a girl's number, you're supposed to put it to use."
He chuckles, making me even angrier. "I'm sorry. Things got busy and I never got the chance."
I roll my eyes, "Yeah right."
"I texted you, didn't I? Plus I knew I'd see you here."
"Whatever."
He smirks, "Look, how about I make it up to you?" He says from behind me as his hands wrap themselves around my waist.
"Oh yeah, how?"
"You and me, Saturday night. I'll pick you up." He says softly into my ear.
I blush softly, "What are we doing?"
"It'll be a surprise."
I turn around to face him, "Okay fine. But you might want to not mention it to Caleb."
He chuckles, "Don't worry about that. Why don't you come to dance with me?"
I hesitated again. This was my cousin's birthday party, surely they'd see me. But I was just dancing, nothing people don't do at parties. So I nod in agreement, "Alright."
He led me to an area by the DJ where others were dancing. An upbeat song was playing and we began to dance to the beat.
The next song that began to play was much slower, causing him to take the initiative to turn me around, wrapping his arms around me from behind as we rocked against each other. I felt hot in the face at the bold action but complied regardless.
"You know you're the prettiest girl here tonight right?"
"Tell me something I don't know."
He chuckles, holding me closer as we dance.
"Can I get you a drink?" He asks after we finish dancing.
"Sure, surprise me."
He nods and smiles before making his way back to the kitchen. "Calebs gonna kill him." A voice says from behind me. I turn around to see Noah standing behind me with a drink in his hand.
"And why is that?"
"He already told him to stay away from you. Looks like he's not listening."
"Caleb is not the boss of either of us."
He chuckles, "That might be so, but trust me when I say he's just looking out for you. Aaron is not that great of a guy. I've known him the longest, I would know."
"Oh yeah, and why's that?" I ask curiously.
Before he could continue talking he looked behind me. "Aaron." Noah says with a simple nod. I then around to see Aaron behind me holding two drinks.
"Noah." He responds curtly.
"I'll see you around Ami," Noah says before walking away.
"What were you guys talking about?"
I shake my head, "Nothing major." I grab the drink from him before taking a sip, making me wince. "What is this?"
"Jungle juice."
I chuckle, "There is hardly any juice in this."
Suddenly the music stopped and the DJ spoke into the microphone, "Alright guys gather around it's time to sing happy birthday to these knuckleheads!"
"Ooh come on!" I say excitedly as I begin to head toward the action.
But he grabs my hand to stop me, "I have a better idea." I raise my brow questioningly as he begins to lead me away. We head toward the side entrance of the backyard where we end up in front of the house. "Where are we going?" I ask as we begin to walk down the street.
"I want to show you something."
"But they're singing happy birthday. I've gotta be there."
"I'm sure they won't even notice. Come on it'll be fun." He urges.
I look behind me as I begin to hear the chorus of voices singing the happy birthday song to the twins. Hopefully, Aaron was right. There were so many people here that I was sure they would hardly notice.
"Okay fine, but we've gotta be quick."
"Don't worry, we'll be back soon."
He continues to lead me down the road before making a turn toward a park. We entered the dimly lit park and Aaron took a seat on the swing set.
"A park?" I ask.
"I wanted some alone time with you."
I chuckle as I take a seat on the swing next to him, "We could've just sat outside the front of the house."
"Yeah, but I know you don't want your cousin to see us."
"Caleb is just really overprotective."
"I know, he threatened me the other day about you."
My eyes widen, "He did?"
He nods, "He said if I made any kind of move on you he'd cut my dick off and use it to strangle me."
"That sounds like Caleb." I chuckle, "If he threatened you why are you still pursuing me?"
"Because some things are worth getting your dick cut off for. And I think you're one of them."
I blush, "Oh shut up."
"No really. I wanna see where this could go if you're willing."
I shrug nonchalantly, "It might be worth a try."
He chuckles, "I know you like me."
"Oh yeah? Says who?"
"Says that smile you're trying to hold back."
My cheeks begin to burn as I hide my smile. "Shut up."
"Why don't you make me?" He flirts. Suddenly he was closer, his eyes glancing down at my lips.
Was I ready to kiss him? This was already starting to feel like it was moving too fast. Before he could lean in I pulled away, making the moment awkward.
"Um, I'm sorry."
"Nah I'm sorry. I don't wanna rush things."
I nod in agreement, "Yeah, thanks."

Aaron and I spent a lot of time talking at the park about random things after I dodged his kiss. I hadn't realized how much time had passed. By the time we arrived back at the house, the party seemed to have died down.
"Where the hell have you been?" Caleb asks when he spots me. Aaron appears behind me making Caleb sigh. "Really dude?"
Aaron shrugs nonchalantly, "We just went for a walk." He says before passing by as Caleb glares at him.
"Amina-"
"Look Caleb I'm sorry for not being there. I lost track of time okay?"
"That's not what I'm mad about. You barely know the guy and you wander off into the night with him? You disappear without letting anyone know where the hell you're going? Even your roommates have been worried sick looking for you."
I sigh, "I'm sorry, I really am. Where are they?"
"Outside. But we're not done here. I do not want you dating Aaron."
"I don't remember asking you?" I walk away from him and head to the backyard to search for my friends.
"You whore! I thought you got roofied and kidnapped!" Kendra exclaims once she spots me.
"I'm sorry guys I was with Aaron."
Kendra raises an eyebrow, "Basketball playing Aaron?" I nod and she smirks, "Well fine I'll give you a pass as long as you give me the details in the car."
"No! No passes you can't just run off with a guy without telling anyone! We were really worried. Why weren't you answering your phone?" Bianca pipes in.
I hold it up, "Silent. I'm really sorry again."
She sighs, "Let's just go. I'm really tired."
I say goodbye to the guys before making my way to the car with Kendra and Bianca. "Give us the juicy details!" Kendra exclaims as we get into the car.
I chuckle, "There's nothing juicy about it. He tried to kiss me and I dodged him."
They both gasp. "You dodged him? Why?" Bianca asks.
"Because she's in love with Dominic." Kendra teases.
"Shut up I don't even like Dominic. I dodged Aaron because I felt it was too soon."
"But you slept with Dominic after meeting him like twice."
I glare at her, "That's different!"
"Because you love him." Kendra says in a sing-song voice, making her and Bianca laugh.
I roll my eyes before sitting back against my seat, "Whatever."
They weren't completely wrong, Dominic did cross my mind when Aaron tried to kiss me. But that was only because it felt so recent that Dominic and I had been together.
But I do not like Dominic.

How do we feel about Aaron?
And what does Noah know that we don't??
