"Here you go sir." The waitress says as she places the plate down in front of me.
"Thanks." I mumble as I pull out my fork and knife.
"Thank you gorgeous." Andre winks at the woman. She smiles politely before walking away from us. "I definitely sense that she wants me." He comments with a smile as he watches her head back to the kitchen.
I stifle a laugh, "Of course she does Andre."
Andre was my best friend and my only friend. He was a dumb piece of shit that I couldn't live without. We'd been friends since middle school and he's all I've ever needed since then.
"You always doubt my skills. I bet you I can get her number before we leave."
I scoff looking over at the time, "We have to get to campus before 12. I doubt you can do it by then."
"Bet?" He asks with a raised brow.
"Bet."
He smirks, "If I win I'm driving us to campus. In your car."
"Deal."
He gets up from his seat, making his way toward the poor waitress. Her back was turned away from the counter as she stuck orders in front of the cook.
"Hey, pretty Princess." He says with a smirk.
She turns around, looking at him distastefully. "Can I help you?"
"Yes you can, by putting your number down right here." He says sliding a piece of paper over to her on the counter.
"I have a boyfriend."
"He doesn't have to know." He says with a smirk.
She rolls her eyes before simply walking away from him. I try to muffle my laughter, having seen the whole thing as he walks back over to our table in defeat.
"Just eat your food, you'll feel better." I tell him as I push his plate closer to him. He flips me off before taking a bite of his burger.
After finishing our meals and leaving a tip, we start making our way to campus. Today was the first day of the new school year. One more year till graduation and I was more than ready to get college over with.
"Meet you here at 3 right?" Andre asks.
I nod as I lock the car, "See you then."
I walk to my first class and take a seat in the far back. I didn't like interacting with others, especially the professors. In college professors loved students to engage in discussions but I truly had nothing to say. So I stayed in the back, away from the students and the professor.
"Good afternoon class. Welcome to OPM 101, Operations Management. I am Professor Lincoln and today we will be going over the syllabus and class rules." I groan internally before pulling out my folder, might as well follow along. "First things first I'd like to make it clear that the back of the classroom is prohibited, so anyone in the back needs to move up now please."
I look around me, seeing as though I'm the only one in the far back everyone's eyes are on me. I sigh before getting up, moving a couple of seats before sitting in the middle.
"Why don't you come up here?" The professor asks as he points to an empty seat in the very front.
"No thanks." I mumble.
Professor Lincoln raises a brow but doesn't push it as he continues to go through his stupid class rules. I was in between a girl and a guy, both who didn't dare to make eye contact as they stared straight ahead.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around.
"What?" I ask in a whisper, my tone laced with irritancy.
A doe-eyed girl whispers to me, "I can't see from behind you."
The girl beside her widens her eyes, pulling her friend's arm to get her attention. "Jenny leave him alone!" She whispers to her friend.
"Why?"
"That's Dominic Taylor."
Jenny remains silent, seemingly realizing where she went wrong. "I'm so sorry. Forget I said anything." She says from behind me.
I roll my eyes not bothering to respond. See why I don't talk to people?
I leave class in a bad mood, already fed up with the day. I still had one more class I needed to make it to before leaving for the day. As I'm walking I feel a small frame crash into my body. I look down at the pretty wide-eyed girl looking up at me.
"Geez am I invisible or something?" I grumble.
She adjusts herself, looking up at me with apologetic eyes. "I'm sorry. I was just trying to find my class." She was really pretty, like really pretty. Her dark curly locks were pulled into a tight low ponytail. Her skin was dark and smooth and her eyes were a deep brown. She had a visible beauty mark on the corner of her mouth.
"Yeah, whatever." Is all I mutter before walking away.
I heard her scoff from behind me and couldn't help but look back. I watched her small hourglass frame walk away to wherever she was headed. She was hot, I'll give her that.
My next class was boring as well, no surprise there. After it ended I made my way to the car to meet with Andre.
"I met this really mean girl today. She was kind of hot." He says with a smile as I drive us to my apartment.
I raise a brow, "Why are you so attracted to women that don't want you?"
"At least I'm attracted to women at all. Sometimes I think you're not even into girls. Is there something you want to share dude?"
I punch him in the arm, "I'm into them. They're just not on my radar right now."
"Yeah yeah, I know you're busy. But you don't even mention ever seeing any girls you think are cute or anything."
"We aren't children I don't need to gossip with you about girls that I find attractive."
"But we are college students. Come on spill dude!"
I sigh, thinking back to earlier in the day. "There was this one girl."
"Yeah?" He asks with wide eyes.
"She was pretty I guess."
He frowns, "That's it? Big boobs? Nice butt? Black? White? Asian? Give me something!"
I shake my head as I park the car. "Shut up Andre." I get out of the car with him following behind me before locking it. We make our way up the steps and into my apartment.
I turn on the gaming console and Andre and I start playing.
"Alexa play my playlist."
"Playing from your playlist." Alexa responds.
"So you gonna tell me more about this mystery girl?" He asks over the loud music.
"There's nothing to tell. She bumped into me in the hall and she was cute."
"What'd you say to her? Did she drop her books? How romantic." He gushes mockingly making me laugh.
I heard pounding on the wall next to me, making me raise a brow. Kendra usually never complained about my music, maybe it was one of her new roommates. I decided to increase the volume, tuning out the sound of the pounding. "Alexa increase volume."
After a few minutes of playing in my living room, I heard aggressive pounding again. But this time at my front door. Andre and I look at each other questioningly before I get up and make my way over to answer it.
In front of me stood an angry-looking girl with her arms crossed. She wore what seemed like only a large t-shirt and her glare was prominent. My eyes scanned her briefly, she looked familiar.
I was irritated by her knocking so I met her with the same glare. "What?" I ask. She looked taken aback as I opened the door, clearly not expecting me.
She looked me over before scowling again. "Can you turn your music down a bit? Some of us are trying to sleep and my room is right next to your wall."
I scoff, "No." And shut the door in her face. Before I could walk back to my couch she began pounding on my door again. I open the door once more with an irritated expression, "What do you want now?"
"Turn down your music please, or I'm reporting you to the front office." She threatens.
I shrug before attempting to shut the door in her face again. To my surprise, she pushes the door open and lets herself enter my apartment. Andre looks up at her in shock too, clearly as surprised as me.
She unplugs the device and turns to me, "I asked nicely." I stood there in shock as she walked past me out the door.
"Who the hell was that?" He asks.
It took me a minute but I think I finally realized as she sashayed back into her apartment next door, slamming the door behind her. The dark skin, the curly hair, even the little mark on her chin. "Hello? Dude stop drooling." Andre says with a laugh. I avert my gaze away from outside and turn to glare at him before shutting my front door. "She's a feisty little thing, isn't she? Who's that?" He asks again.
"My new neighbor apparently." I mumble as I head over to meet him by the couch. I noticed the plug to my speaker had been completely disconnected and frowned. "And she broke the damn speaker!"
Andre raises a brow, "Wow, just my kind of woman." Unconsciously I glare at him, opening my mouth to speak but quickly catch myself.
"Whatever." I respond grumpily, taking a seat back on the couch and picking up the controller. I could already tell this year was going to be hell.
