The week was nearing its end and Friday had finally rolled around. Today I was supposed to be going out with Aaron and I was excited. We had been texting frequently during the week and I felt we got along pretty well.

I pull out my planner and open it up to double-check what else was planned for today. I crossed off the homework assignments I already completed and excitedly looked at the entry noted 'date with Aaron.'

But the fact that it was a surprise bothered me. I liked to know everything ahead of time so I could plan. He had said to dress causal and to avoid heels.

I was curious as to what that could mean. Was it a movie? A walk in the park? The beach? Oh my God, what if he's taking me to McDonald's?

I began to panic as I destroyed my room trying to find an outfit. He was picking me up in about 2 hours from now at 7 o'clock so I had time till then.

I went through every outfit combination in my closet, trying to find something neutral that could work anywhere. Ultimately I decided on an all black short-sleeved bodysuit and an olive green jacket in case it got cold. I put on my jewelry and my black Converse before starting my makeup.

My hair was already slicked back into a ponytail so I didn't have to worry about that. Suddenly my phone began to ring, making me sprint toward the bed.

"Hello?"

"I'm here." Aaron's voice says through the phone.

"Alright, I'm coming down."

I hang up the phone before grabbing my purse and making my way outside. "You here to keep me company again?" Dominic asks as he lets out a cloud of smoke from his mouth.

"Sorry not today, I'm heading out. I've got a date."

Dominic raises a brow, "Date?"

"Yes, a date."

"And he couldn't come get you at your door?"

I roll my eyes, "It's not formal."

"It's common courtesy." Honking could be heard in the distance from what I assume is Aaron's car. "Wow, what a gentleman." Dominic mutters.

I roll my eyes, "Whatever. I'll see you later."

He didn't respond continuing to smoke as I made my way down the steps. I approach Aaron's black truck before getting into the passenger side.

"You look cute." He greets.

"Thanks it was hard finding something to wear considering I don't know where we're going."

"Don't worry what you're wearing is perfect."

We begin driving and make our way onto the highway to an unknown location.

"Can I get some hints on where we're going?"

He shakes his head, "You'll know when we get there."

I sigh impatiently, looking out the window as we drive.

We finally arrived at an occupied lot with a large screen and snack vendors all around. We were at the drive-in theater.

"The drive-in? You could've just said that."

"Wasn't it more exciting not knowing?"

"No."

He chuckles as he parks the car in a spot.

"What movie is it?" I ask.

"Nightmare on Elm Street."

I raise a brow, "Oh I see. You wanna get me all scared so I'll cuddle up to you."

"Maybe." He says with a smirk. "But if not you can protect yourself from the big bad monsters. Or you can come over here and let me."

I laugh, hitting him gently. "I'm a big girl I can protect myself."

The movie started to play and we got comfortable in our seats. We were seated in the trunk of his truck where he had set up blankets for us to rest on. I kept my distance, still not wanting to move too fast with him.

As the movie progressed things were getting tense and the atmosphere felt eerie as we watched. It didn't help that we were surrounded by trees that mirrored the scenes in the film. I wasn't gonna lie his little plan had worked, I was terrified. I wasn't very strong when it came to horror movies.

As soon as a jump scare came up, I was in his arms just like he wanted. But I had to admit it felt nice to be held.

I flinched as Freddy began to slash his next victim, making me hide in Aaron's chest. I could feel him chuckling and I looked up at him. "This is funny to you?"

"You're funny to me. I thought you were a big girl?" He says as he continues laughing.

"I am, but why protect myself when you're here right?"

He chuckles, pulling me closer. "Good point."

We continued to watch the movie until it ended. Aaron didn't make any further moves past cuddling me and I appreciated that.

"You hungry?" He asks after the film ends.

"I could eat."

He starts up the engine in the car, "How do you feel about Mexican food?"

"I love it."

"Great I know a place nearby."

He backs out of the movie lot and drives into the main road. The Bluetooth in his car played some rap artist I couldn't recognize as we drove down the road.

"So did you like the movie?" He asks.

"It was pretty good, but I'm not usually a fan of horror."

"Oh yeah? what do you like?"

"Action, comedy, sci-fi, things like that."

"No romance?"

"Occasionally, but it makes me sick most of the time. Especially the sad ones, I'd rather watch a rom-com."

"Then maybe next time we go to the drive-ins we can watch an action movie."

"So there will be a next time?" I ask with a raised brow.

"I don't see why there wouldn't be?"

I chuckle as he pulls up to the Mexican restaurant. We get out of the car and make our way inside the crowded room. The hostess takes us over to some seats by the window where we get settled.

"My name is Johnny and I'll be your server this evening, can I get you started with drinks?" A waiter says as he approaches our booth.

"I'll take a water."

"I'll do the same but with lemon."

"Coming right up." He says with a smile before walking away.

"You come to this place a lot?" I ask as I look over the menu.

"Yeah, but I don't usually dine in."

"What do you usually get?"

"Carne Asada tacos, highly recommend."

The waiter returns with our drinks and places them on the table. "Are you guys ready to order? Can I get you started with appetizers?"

"No appetizers I don't think?" Aaron replies looking up at me.

I nod, "No appetizers. What do you recommend here?"

"Chicken fajita skillet is my absolute favorite."

"That sounds good maybe I'll get that."

The waiter nods as he writes it down, "And you sir?"

"Carne asada tacos." Aaron replies curtly.

"Alright, I'll get that right out for you guys." He says as he takes our menus.

There was a brief moment of silence after the waiter left so I decided to speak up. "So you and Caleb aren't friends anymore huh?" I ask suddenly.

He looks up in surprise at my question but chuckles. "We never really were friends, just teammates."

"I still feel like I'm doing something wrong by going out with you."

"Probably because he's making it seem that way. I like you and you like me right?" I nod, "Exactly so I don't see why he should want to get in the way of that. The only people who should have a say in our relationship are us right?"

I nod in agreement, "You're right."

The waiter comes by with our meals and places them down on the table. "I hope you like the fajitas. Anything else I can get for you guys?"

"We're fine." Aaron responded before I could say anything.

"Alright well, I'll come back around if you need me."

"Thank you." I say with a smile as he walks away.

We begin eating our food, once again in silence. Only the sound of clattering dishes and Spanish music could be heard as we enjoyed our meals. "Are you okay?" I ask.

He nods, "I'm great."

"You seem awfully quiet."

"Yeah sorry, the waiter has just been throwing me off."

"Really? He seems so nice."

"You like your food?" He asks trying to change the subject.

I nod, "This place is really good."

"I doubt they have any Mexican restaurants as good as this in the Bay Area."

"I beg to differ, Bay Area tacos are top tier."

He chuckles, "I will forever stand behind SoCal."

"Yeah because you're from San Diego."

"Ah, so you remembered." He smirks.

"I listen when people talk." I smile back.

The waiter brought the bill and we made our way back to the car after Aaron paid the check. The car ride back to my place was filled with short conversations before we finally arrived at my apartment.

"I'll walk you up." He says as he parks the car. He follows me up the stairs to the door of my apartment.

"I had a great time tonight." I tell him with a shy smile.

"I did too, maybe we could do it again sometime. In a different setting."

I smirk, "Maybe."

There was a moment of silence as I felt Aaron's gaze on me. Suddenly before I could blink his hand tilted my chin and brought his lips to mine.

I didn't pull away this time, allowing him to kiss me fully in the moment before pulling away.

"I'll call you."

"Okay." I say with a small giggle.

He smirks, "Good night Ami."

"Good night Aaron." I wave as he makes his way back down the stairs.

I was fighting back my smile as I watched him walk back to his car. "Good night Aaron." A voice mimics from beside me.

I turn and notice Dominic lounging on his patio smoking a blunt. "How long have you been there?" I ask in surprise.

"Too long."

"You just sat there and watched like a stalker?"

"I was sitting here before you arrived don't call me a stalker."

I scoff, "Whatever weirdo."

"Why are you dating that guy?"

"Why do you care?"

"I don't."

"Then don't worry about it." I say with a smile before shutting my apartment door behind me.
