âIt was you all the time!â She raised her voice.
âI canât believe I was so stupid to see itâ, she said.
âTell me, damn it!â She yelled at Viktor.
âYes, it was meâ, he admitted, and in his voice was a relief.
âSo, you were pretending to be my friend?â She was bittered.
âIâve never pretend, Iâm your friend Lotta and I always will be, regardless of Drake, or what you thinkâ, he said.
âI didnât do it because heâs a future Alpha or because I will become his Beta, I choose to be your friend, because of youâ, he said.
âYouâll be his Beta?â
âGreat rewardâ, she said.
âItâs not what you thinkâ, he told her.
âReally?â
âHow is it then, Viktor, because I would really like to knowâ, she was upset.
He took a deep breath before he started to talk.
âDrake and I were always the best friends, you could always see us togetherâ, he said.
âYes, I saw you, but I thought it was because you are his fatherâs best warrior, and he needed to trainâ, she said.
âThat too, but we grew up together, and my father is the betta of our pack, you know that.â
âNo, I didnât know that.â âI guess thatâs how it works, you are inheriting his placeâ, she said.
Viktor smiled.
âSee, thatâs why I love to be your friend, you are so reasonable, and great person to talk with, but thatâs not the caseâ, he said to her.
âEvery future Alpha can choose his Beta, no matter who he is, if he thinks he is capable to be oneâ, he explained.
âEven since we were kids, we talked about it, and I guess when he trusted me enough, when he wanted me to keep you safe while heâs goneâ, he finished.
âBut, I failed to do that, when Agatha done those things to youâ, he said with bitterness.
âIt wasnât your fault, it was only mine, I was responsible for what happened to me , not youâ, she said with sadness.
âHow can you say that?â Victor was upset.
âYou know it isnât true, and it was only her jealousy, nothing moreâ, he said.
âThatâs why it will be hell when I say that to Drakeâ, he was looking away.
âIt wonât because you wonât tell him anythingâ, she said.
âYou know I canât hide it, and even if I do, I wonât, because of youâ, he protested.
âYou are not listening to meâ, she was persistent.
âThereâs nothing to tellâ, she said.
âYou think he wonât find out, one day?â He asked.
âIâll deal with it when the time comesâ, she said.
âI want to know something elseâ, she looked at him.
âAnythingâ, his blond eyes were wide open.
Viktor was a handsome, strong young man, with blond, curly hair and eyes like blue sky.
He had a darker tan, from the sun, and awesome muscles, well, he was a warrior.
âWhy did you train me?â She asked, suddenly.
âBecause you needed thatâ, he answered.
âI did it for you, not for me or Drake, just for you, and I know I did a damn good thingâ, he said, satisfied.
âWhen I saw your wolf, I knew that I wasnât wrong, in fact, I was proud of you and myself, if I may sayâ, he added, which made Lotta smile a bit.
âI can understand why didnât you tell me that I was his mate, but I think Iâm not ready for thatâ, she said to him.
âWhy would you say that?â
âYou should be happy that you find your mate and that you have a chance to love and be lovedâ, he said with sadness.
âHe doesnât love me, he just wants to own me, and itâs a mate bondâ, she said with disappointment and anger.
âNow, Iâm really upset, Lottaâ, Viktor said.
âDrake isnât that kind of a man, or he will ever beâ, he said.
âI know him for years.â
âMaybe not to you, but he was pretty clear with me , just a while agoâ, she was upset now.
He laughed.
âIs something funny?â She asked.
âWell, you must admit, that you are tough to handle, my friendâ, he said.
âGive him a chance, you wonât regret it, I promise you.â
âYes, itâs the bond that pulls you, but it will turned into true love so easily and fast, that you wonât be able to see when that happens, but you will feel itâ, he said calmly.
âHow come you know all that?â She was curious.
âMy father told me, and you know I had a mate once, but not a chance to be with herâ, he said with bitterness.
âAnd, how come you donât?â He asked.
âI never was interested in that, you know Iâm more of a book wormâ, she smiled.
âWell, at least I was, now I donât know whatâs going to happenedâ, she said, worried.
âNothing that you donât want to, so just stay calm and be your selfâ, he told her.
âI canât be me with him, heâs making me angry , and I have an urge to strangle himâ, she said in anger.
âYou should have some other urge toward meâ, a deep voice was heard behind her.
Viktor smiled at his old friend and was relieved when he saw him, and not someone else, but still.
He also knew that Drake would be mad, because of finding him alone outside with Lotta, now when he here.
âYou are really impossible to talk tooâ, she said in anger.
âWould you mind leaving us in private Viktor?â It was more an order, than a request, judging by the tone of Drakeâs voice.
Victor got the message.
He excused himself and left, leaving them alone on a clear night, full of stars.
Lotta was nervous as hell and started shivering right away when he was close to her.
âTomorrow, you will move your things into my houseâ, Drake said, leaving her speechless.
