Happy reading:)

Chapter Ten: Kill him.

I looked around the three laughing faces while Justin was boiling in and out. I liked how we all just got along so quickly. It was as if we knew each other from what—kindergarten?

I still remember as if it was yesterday when I was walking the hallway without paying much attention and mistakenly bumped into Justin, making him fall on his butt. A crowd formed around us and it was when, suddenly instead of yelling at me, he started laughing so hard that I couldn't restrain myself from following his lead. It was so strange and new at the same moment. He was kinda my first true friend. Then came along Kim. She was new in my class in tenth grade and we immediately became friends and then there we were in present—in the same room laughing and fighting together.

I smiled inwardly. Kimmy threw the cushion at Justin—which hit him on the face, he scoffed loudly throwing it back at her—hard enough to make her fall off the bean bag she'd been sitting on.

I laughed my ass off.

It was our usual Saturday fun night. We thought to stay over at Justin's this time as last time we all were partying at my house. I lifted my legs up on the couch, positioning myself in a comfy way, as I watched the three idiots teasing poor Justin for his lack of walking.

It's been three weeks. His broken rib was pain in the ass when it came to using legs to walk.

Sophie's face turned red as she slammed a hand on her mouth to avoid the fits of laughter on watching Kim fall.

"I hate you guys. Elle you too?" I placed a hand on my mouth, shaking my head at him. I bet that I was red as tomato. "You're all assholes! I hate you guys. I'm in pain and you're the one making fun of me! Just the thing I needed! Thank you so much for the great support!" He barked, rolling his eyes and leaning backwards.

We couldn't help but, laugh even more.

"That's what best friends are for..." I said once I was done laughing but, I still held a grin.

"That's absolutely right, Jus." Sophie chimed, taking sip of her martini.

"Whatever... but, watch your backs, you know just in case." Justin winked.

"Oh, we will..." Martin said and smacked him on the arm, grabbing away his coke and putting it far away from him.

Justin's room was twice of mine. It was huge. Side walls and the front wall—where the television set was attached—were painted white while the wall behind the bed was coloured red, where his huge photo was hanging. He had a walk-in-closet, luxurious and affluent lavatory, and a small sitting arrangement  at the other side of the room, a spacious balcony with the pool view, and what not?

"What the fuck martin!!! Get me my drink back!!!" He groaned, trying to climb off the bed.

These two—Sophie and Martin turned our small group of threes into the five after the later months of tenth grade.

Sophie became the cheerleader and then soon president of student body, which brought her publicity. Kim told me about her being a threat to my increasing popularity but, I didn't know what I saw in her. I liked Sophie a lot and talked to her. And the remaining you could imagine.

Martin was an easy catch. He joined Justin's team and became friends with him. It was Justin who introduced us to him and I knew he was a perfect fit too.

How I couldn't be annoying when my best friends were...?

I laughed at Justin along with them when they teased him by taking away things he drank or ate out of his reach and ran away.

He was currently on his wheelchair for at least a week more.

"Screw you all! That I can't walk is already making me insane and you guys..." He grumbled rolling his eyes, and sighing in defeat.

I bit my lip as I felt bad for him... "Okay... no more haunting him! Leave him alone. Sorry, jus. We didn't mean to upset you." I glared at all the three jerks and then looked back at Justin with soft eyes. He doesn't deserve this. I handed back him his coke, as he grabbed it from my hand and our fingers brushed together.

Earlier I used to feel something inside of me whenever something like this happened but, guess now my feelings are as dead as a Ghost.

"Aw... we're just having some fun. But, fine. Not anymore. Martin get us something horrific to watch tonight." Kim said, standing up and patting her butt clean a little.

"Whatever you say" Martin winked at her and strode out to Justin's studio—where he played his games with guys and watched porno—I guessed—because he never let us girls in.

Martin just winked at kim!! That's not him. Usually they're always fighting about one or the other thing!! What's with the change? Am I missing something that I should know?

"Ehmm..." Sophie cleared her throat—eyeing Kim, and before I opened my mouth to ask what was going on, she added, "I have to make a call. I'll see you guys in few minutes." She shrieked and rushed out of the room.

"And... I'll go and get us something to eat other than pizzas." Kim  left too, leaving Justin and I alone.

Okay... what's really going on???

"Justin what—"

Justin cut me off and said, "Just c'mon and sit here. I've to tell you something."

The way he said that. It was deadpan serious and sincerity shined in his eyes.

My heart started to pound faster than it usually did.

"And that is?" Honestly, I was scared because I got a real bad—awful feeling about where the conversation would lead.

I sat next to him on the bed, getting inside the same blanket as his. I was literally holding my breath.

I fidgeted with my hands, resting in my lap, as i waited for him to talk.

"Um... elle... there's something you should know—"

Okay! This is not that moment where he confesses his feelings for me!! No! It can't be. How can it be THAT moment? Is that even possible?

I couldn't shut my mind when those three words escaped from his mouth in my IMAGINATION. No, it can't be. "Justin before you say anything... there's something I want to ask you..."

He nodded, not even slightly scared. "Fire away!"

He ran a hand through his blondes, impatiently waiting for me to question him.

"What happened back there? Why did you got into a fight with him?" That question was eating me up since the incident. No one knew the reason not even Martin. And i just couldn't get the chance to ask him earlier.

Justin's jaw visibly hardened on his mention and I thought as if I hurt a nerve.

"Uh... I saw him staring at you." He said in one go, looking away from me.

"That's it?" I asked, my mouth fell open.

Did I heard right?

His eyes gazed back at me, his hand held mine, and he spoke, "Elle... It's not it! He was continually staring at you, as if..."

My heart was about to explode. I was...I... speechless.

"Look... justin," I sighed and closed my eyes because what I was going to say could ruin our friendship if he really had feelings for me "I know you care for me a lot. Even more than Kim and Sophie. I totally get it. It's definitely not a problem. I also understand that you must have felt jealous when—"

"Wait... Jealous? No... oh, god! No no no no... I care for you more than anyone because I'm protective of you as a," He looked me in the eyes again, "brother."

My whole world should've been collided and crushed. I should be crying, yelling or at least be heartbroken but... I guess I was relieved. I was actually happy. I wasn't even slightly hurt by his words.

Now, it all made sense to me. I understood why he was so casual about holding my hand, kissing my cheek, hugging me or even ruffling my hair in front of everyone. Every piece came together. Now, I knew why he never asked me out or never made any move towards me.

I couldn't say anything. I just wrapped my arms around him. "Thank you..."

"For what?" He gave out a small chuckle.

"Nothing."

"Ehmmm... seems like I just stepped onto something." Kim teased, pulling herself in the room.

We pulled apart and I stuck my tongue out at her.

"Don't be jealous if Justin cares more for me bitch!" I said, situating myself properly beside him.

Kim rolled her eyes, smirking, and Justin gave out his hearty laugh.

"Evil Dead it is!" Martin entered the room with the DVD in his hand.

"Cheese popcorn and instant noodles it is." Quick after martin, Sophie arrived holding what she just told.

I licked my lips and clutched my stomach on the sight of food.

"Guess... I'll talk to you later about what I wanted to say." Justin whispered, his eyes glaring the TV screen.

"Okay..." I replied, shoving some popcorns in my mouth and giving my attention back to the what-the-fuck-is-that-movie.

***

The credits rolled, Martin was half-in-sleep (pretending to be bored of his own choice or maybe it was Kim's), Kim was clinging to him tightly, and Sophie was practically terrified as she asked me to come with her in the lavatory.

Justin was neutral and me...

I guess I saw half of the movie, as my mind kept on slipping to the part where Evan was staring at me. I meant Nobody.

Was he stalking me or something? Judging me? Observing me? Hating me?

Martin was about to speak so I held my hand up. "Quick question which one of you tucked me in the bed after the Justin's party?" I had been trying to know what the hell had happened. And I was still at square one.

"I dropped Soph and Kim home. I thought you were with Justin." He glanced at Justin.

I glared at Justin. He simply shrugged. He threw his hands in the air. "I don't know. Maybe it was me. I don't really remember anything clearly from that night. Maybe it wasn't. Maybe you called Marissa to get you?"

I shook my head and bit my lip.

And then they resumed their conversations. Guess, I would never find out what really happened that night.

"Justin what are you going to do with that asshole?" Martin asked when he stopped pretending, and took the bite of his half eaten pizza slice.

Ew!

"I don't know. But—"

"Wait... what is it about?" I asked, positioning myself towards Justin and crossing my arms, frowning at him.

"Um... Elle I know how you feel about fights and I promised you but—"

"There are no buts!" I announced, glaring at him.

Fight? Again? No way!

"Please... you have to understand. Don't you think I can take him down?"

"It's not about that. Please don't take it on you. You know I trust you..."

"That's it. Just trust me on this too. My teammates are thinking to make Gabe the Captain!" He whined, looking away.

"What? Why?" Sophie interrupted.

"Because I lost... twice to that asshole and now everyone thinks that I am nothing. They look at me with pity in their eyes and yesterday I heard two guys talking in the locker room. They might convince coach to make Gabe their captain—by making my injury as an excuse but, we all know that would just be the surface reason. Basketball is everything to me guys..."

No... this can't be happening. There had to be some other alternative...

"You know what guys... I think we should just find out where he lives and kill him for doing this to Justin." Kim suggested something totally out of question. Where did that even come from? Loath was lurking in her every word.

I just knew how much everyone hated him.

Now, how was I supposed to say that he drove me home last week? That he helped me? That he talked—shared sarcastic commenting— with me? That I didn't understand why but, I thought there's more to him and so did to his actions.

I preferred to keep my mouth shut.

"That's perfect. I have some source. I can pull some strings and get his address in just few minutes." Sophie said animatedly, participating in should-not-be-happening-conversation!

Instantly, Kim looked over her shoulder at me and understood my Don't-tell-them-about-our-little-mission look. I didn't see any point in telling it to them. Or maybe I was afraid what they might do if they knew where he lived? And then, it was exactly what was happening! I saw Kim slightly nodding at me, grasping that she should keep her mouth shut.

Martin spoke, furiously, "I will just break his neck with snap of my fingers...."

"I got his address. When are we going?" Sophie chirped when her phone beeped, her pearl white teeth showing off.

"What? Are you guys insane? I am not participating in it at all. And neither should you guys. Why are we getting down to his standard? And why are we even talking about him?!" I took aback with my own words. I was angry and I didn't exactly know why.

I was...

Aren't I getting mushy a lot lately than I used to be?

What's going on with me?

That just made me remember when I held Kim's hand stopping her cruel words in the café—where he started working. Everyone in the school had spread some facts about him. One of which was, he's an orphan.

I just couldn't help but, feel awful for him. He didn't chose to be this way? Did he?

What if I am judging the book by its cover? Just like all others in the school.

Maybe there's more to it?

But, that doesn't give him right to always be so rude and arrogant towards everyone...

Maybe he's just acting up to keep a distance from others? It's an easy escape if you have a life like hell.

"Cool down..." Martin, smirked at me, trying to get hold of my hand but, I just shooed his hand away.

I stood up. "No... I won't! It's insane. It's crazy!" I repeated myself, frustrated with all of this.

"Hey... chill... we're just playing around..." Sophie grabbed my arm and made me sit on the couch again.

I gasped and quickly steadied my inner self. Trying to control my rage, I counted backwards from (10 to 1) in my mind.

"I am sorry guys. I am just tired. I'm going for some sleep." Quickly, I grabbed my phone and left without sharing another word or look with them.

I heard them calling for me, but, none of them followed me, thankfully.

I had something in mind. Something big.
