Alexia twisted her head toward the man next to the stage, her heart racing in both nervousness and apprehensiveness.
Chaim quickly glanced at Alexia before turning his gaze to Assistant Chiao.
A chill ran up Assistant Chiaoâs back as Chaim stared at him, but Assistant Chiao still asked stiffly, âMr.
Lancaster, Secretary White drew your nameâ¦â
âDid Nathaniel tell you do this?â Chaim questioned in an icily cold voice.
He was quite clear with his instructions not to add his name to the box. So, it was apparent someone meddled.
Apart from Chaim, Nathaniel was the only one with the authority to give Wood orders.
Assistant Chiao lowered his head and could only admit, âIt was indeed Dr. Hardy. He planned this.â
âHe really has nothing better to do!â.
Assistant Chiao touched his nose as he surreptitiously glanced at Alexiaâs direction, âThen, Mr.
Lancaster, would you dance with Ms. White? Sheâs still waiting.â
âWhy didnât you think twice before you did this?â Chaim asked as his face darkened.
âIâm sorry Mr. Lancaster, I know it was wrong. Thereâs nothing I can do now.â
âYouâll have a monthâs bonus deducted. I hope there isnât a next time, or youâll be looking for another job!â
âYes, I understandâ¦â Assistant Chiao accepted the punishment with a serious expression, angrily cursing Nathaniel in his mind.
âAlright, now continue with your hosting duties,â Chaim snapped, his face cold as he stepped on stage.
He walked toward Alexia at a steady pace.
She held her breath and called him. âMr. Lancasterââ
âLetâs go,â he said, cutting her off.
âWhere?â Alexia looked at the hand that he reached out.
âDo you not want to dance?â
âI do.â Alexiaâs eyes lit up as she hurriedly placed her hand in his awaiting palm.
Her hand was icy and damp.
âYouâre sweating?â Chaim frowned.
Alexia nodded awkwardly. âIf it bothers you, I can go to wash my hands.â
Her palms sweated every time she was nervous.
âNo need.â Chaim took her hand and led her toward the middle of the room. The crowd parted like the sea to make way for them as they reached the center.
Chaim embraced Alexia stiffly as the music started.
They danced as the crowd closed in around them.
Alexia was extremely nervous as everyone watched. She stepped on Chaimâs feet several times.
Chaim coldly asked her in a low voice, âDidnât your etiquette teacher teach you to dance?â
âTaughtâ¦â Her face flushed again. âLike this?â
Alexiaâs voice was so low that Chaim almost couldnât hear, âThe teacher had little time with me.â
âNever mind.â Chaim took her on a spin. âHave you practiced yourself?â
âIâ¦â Alexia was speechless.
âIt seems that the answer is NO. Fortunately, the public doesnât know that youâre the young lady of the Lancaster family.â
Any happiness Alexia felt dancing with Chaim evaporated. So that was what he thought of her. Perhaps Lynn was right. Alexiaâs nose twitched as she danced stiffly. It didnât help that Chaim gave up on pulling her back on rhythm after several attempts either.
As soon as the dance was over, he immediately released her. âAll right, Iâll have the driver take you back.â
âThank you,â Alexia said, forcing out a smile.
Chaim turned around toward the lounge without looking at her.
In the lounge, Nathaniel was playing a game on his phone. âFinished dancing so soon?â
Chaim headed straight for the bathroom with a sullen face, not replying.
Nathaniel shrugged, turning his attention back to his game. âQuick, find cover, find cover! Thereâs a sniper!â
Then, after washing Alexiaâs sweat off his hands, Chaim snatched Nathanielâs phone out of his hands.
âWhy did you do that?â
âYou know it was me?â Nathaniel raised an eyebrow slightly.
Chaim sat across from him with piercing eyes.
âWell, Iâm doing it all for you.â Nathaniel said, casually folding his legs.
âFor me?â
âOf course. Would you be able to handle the idea of your wife dancing with another man?â
Chaim thought for a while and surprisingly found that the answer was no.
âIâm right, arenât I?â Nathaniel snatched his phone back. âSo, you should thank me.â
âAlright, why arenât you back at the hospital yet?â
âIâm waiting for you.â Nathanielâs expression became serious. âDid you tell her about the thing?â
âYes.â
âSo what does that mean? Did she agree to it?â
âNo, she said to think about it.â
âHow long is that going to take? Evelynâs condition canât wait for long.â
âWhen is the best time for the first surgery?â
Nathaniel held up a hand, âNo more than five days, the sooner she does the first surgery, the better her condition, and the success rate of the second surgery will be higher.â
âOkay; I will talk to Alexia again after the party.â
With that, Nathaniel brushed off his clothes as he stood up, âOkay, then Iâll leave first.â
âOkay.â
At 11 p.m., Chaim returned to the villa.
He found Aunt Song watching TV as he walked into the living room.
âYouâre back, sir?â Aunt Song looked at him in surprise.
âAunt Song, why havenât you rested yet?â
âI canât sleep.â Aunt Song replied with a smile.
Chaim looked around, âWhereâs Alexia?â
