Chaim was silent for quite a while before finally responding. âIf thatâs what you want. Yes.â
Alexia was pleasantly surprised when hearing his answer. She couldnât believe he agreed! However, sadness quickly followed. While Chaim had agreed, he sounded really reluctant. It was almost as if his heart was resisting.
With all those thoughts floating in her head, Alexia forced back her tears. âOkay. Iâll think about everythingâ¦â
She took a breath before turning toward the door.
âWait.â Chaim walked toward her. âTake this.â
Alexia blankly looked at the bank card in Chaimâs hand, not taking it. âWhy are you giving this to me?â
Chaim grabbed Alexiaâs wrist and dropped the card into her palm. âThis is my secondary card. You can use it to buy whatever you want. I will also tell my accountants to transfer the living expenses to Aunt Songâs account every month. You wonât have to pay her anymore.â
âIâll accept the living expenses, but I donât need this.â Alexia handed Chaim his card back.
âDonât you want it?â Chaim asked coldly.
He couldnât believe Alexia refused his money again.
âI already owe you five million. I donât even know when Iâll pay it off.â
âSo youâll take some of my money but not all of it?â Chaim snorted coldly with a hint of sulkiness that he didnât even notice.
One moment she requested that they act like a real couple, and then she was unwilling to accept his kind offer the next. What was she thinking?
Alexia picked at the skin around her nails, âIâm accepting the living expenses but not the card because I donât want others to think I married you for your money.â
âIf itâs not for money, what exactly do you want?â Chaim said, examining her slim face with a puzzled look on his face.
Alexia wanted to speak, but kept silent. She was tempted to say that she wanted him. But would he even believe her?
Alexia laughed to herself and decided against sharing her truest thoughts. âNever mind. I havenât figured out how to say it yet. I want to rest.â
With that, she walked past him out of the room.
Chaim didnât get an answer. He stared at Alexiaâs back as she left with an indescribable irritation raging within him.
Alexia headed for the kitchen to get some things to help her clean up the mess, hoping Aunt Song would be able to remove the coffee stain. Then, she went back to her room and promptly felt asleep.
The next day, Lynn was surprised by Alexiaâs huge dark circles, âHoly shit, did you steal a cow last night?â
âDonât sit there, or weâll get in trouble,â Alexia said, pushing Lynn off the desk, âAnd what about stealing cows? I just had a nightmare last night.â
âOne night?â
âYeah, it was a really bad one.â Alexia yawned with listless, bloodshot eyes.
As soon as she closed her eyes, she couldnât help but dream about Chaim forcibly taking her bone marrow against her will.
The dream was so real she even wondered if he would really do it if she didnât agree.
âWhat kind of nightmare?â Lynn asked, concerned. She wasnât used to seeing Alexia like that.
Alexia lowered her eyes. âI donât want to talk about it. Itâs so early, why did you come to see me?â
Lynn raised an eyebrow, âHave you forgot? The welcome party!â
âI havenât forgotten, but itâs not until this evening. What are you telling me now for?â Alexia asked in disinterest as she sorted out some more documents. There were always more documents.
âIâm asking if you have prepared your dress of course.â
âDress?â Alexia stopped sorting and looked up at Lynn suspiciously.
Lynn winked, a wry smile playing on her lips. âSurely not, right?â
âDo I really have to wear a dress for the welcome party?â Alexia asked, looking at with a bewildered expression.
The smile on Lynnâs face fell and her expression became serious, âDonât you know? The whole company was emailed about the dress code yesterday. It was your secretary team who sent it out.â
Yesterdayâ¦
Alexia bit her lower lip to suppress her emotions.
Seeing Alexiaâs reaction, Lynn immediately knew what happened. âThey deliberately didnât notify you?â
âI guess so.â Alexia nodded.
The other secretaries already hated her. It wasnât too surprising.
âThey went too far; Iâll get even with them! What gives them the right to bully you like this?â Lynn clenched her fist and gritted her teeth as she stood to leave.
Alexia hurriedly grabbed Lynnâs arm, âLynn, wait! Iâm okay. Youâll just get into trouble if you make a scene. Itâs not worth it.â
âSo you want me to just let it go?â Lynn glared reluctantly.
Alexia handed Lynn a cup of water. âI have no experience in this position, thatâs why they bully me so blatantly. But Iâm certain that once I become more competent in my position, theyâll leave me alone.â
âYouâre too soft. You canât always expect the best from everyone,â Lynn said, flicking Alexia on the forehead.
Alexia laughed uneasily and glanced at the time on computer. âYouâd better head back or your manager will catch you.â
âOh yeah, I almost forgot. How about we go pick out a dress together after work?â
Alexiaâs expression stiffened as she thought about her empty wallet, âOkayâ¦â
âItâs a deal then. Bye!â
With Lynn gone, Alexia slumped into her chair and looked at the less than two-digit amount in her bank account, feeling a headache starting, âWhat kind of dress can I buy?â
âDress?â A calm masculine voice asked from the doorway.
