Chaim took a few steps toward the door, then he paused. âWhether it is at work or at home, donât turn the air-conditioner down so low.â
âAre you caring about me?â Alexia laced her fingers together, looking at him expectantly.
Chaim lowered his eyelids. His bangs covered half of his face, making it difficult for Alexia to read his expression.
âIf you want to think so, you can think so. In short, youâd better not get ill in the next two months!â
If she got sick, her cell activity would decrease, which might make Evelynâs surgery fail. He wouldnât allow this to happen.
âWhy over the next two months?â Alexia asked in confusion.
Although she was happy about his concern, she wasnât stupid. She could tell something was off by the way he was speaking.
âItâs nothing, just remember what I said.â Chaim coldly added before leaving, âIn the future, donât look at me in the eye while speaking. I donât like it!â
Her eyes were so clear he still could not ask her to agree to the bone marrow donation.
Alexia gently closed the door and leaned against it sadly. But after a while, she couldnât stop but smile.
He was caring about her. Although she didnât know how genuine his care was, she was still thrilled!
Alexia patted her cheek before adjusting the temperature higher. Then she grabbed out a piece of white paper and wrote a review.
Someone knocked on the door when she was halfway through.
âPlease come in.â Alexia stopped writing and looked up.
Lynn opened the door and smiled as she asked, âDid you miss me?â
âWhy are you here?â Alexia stood up in surprise and went to grab a glass of water for her.
âIâve done my work.â Lynn said, taking a drink. âIâve also come to ask you some questions so the others will stop bothering me.â
âThe others?â
âThe romantic secretaries. Theyâre making me ask you why Mr. Lancaster was out of the office until noon.â Lynn curled her lips.
Alexiaâs palms began to sweat. âDid they bully you?â
Since Alexia became Chaimâs secretary, she wasnât the only one excluded by the other secretaries, but being ridiculed by previous colleagues overtly or obscurely wasnât too bad because she moved to the top floor, and they couldnât do anything to her. Lynn, however, was a perfect target to bully. âThey didnât.â Lynn waved her hand casually. âOur department has a new manager. They donât dare to cause trouble now. The most they do is gossip, but I also strike back. Donât worry about me.â
âThatâs good.â Alexia breathed a sigh of relief.
âHuh?â Lynn glanced at the paper on Alexiaâs desk. âWhat are you writing?â
âNothing.â Alexia hurriedly covered the paper with her hands.
Lynn squinted at her. âWhy are you hiding it if itâs nothing? Let me see.â
âNo!â
Lynn suddenly pulled the paper, âReview?â
Alexia rubbed her neck awkwardly.
âWhat the hell is going on, why are you writing a review?â
âEh, something happenedâ¦â
Lynn had discovered it, and Alexia couldnât conceal it any longer.
Lynn looked at her with admiration and gave her a thumbs up. âYou are so amazing. Not only daring to sleep at work as soon as you become the presidentâs secretary, but being caught by Mr. Lancaster on the spot. You are so lucky that he didnât fire you. Well, I guess you should finish this soon. Iâm going to head downstairs.â
Lynn was afraid they would catch her after talking with Alexia for such a long time. Returning the review to Alexia, she left quickly.
Alexia sighed, smoothed out the wrinkles on the review and continued to write.
After finishing, she read it one last time and headed for Chaimâs office.
âMr. Lancaster, my review is finished.â Alexia stood in front of the manâs desk, presenting the review with both hands.
âPut it on the desk.â Chaim didnât look up at her, continuing to read the documents before him.
Alexia put down the review, then took a step back and stared at him.
He only wore a black shirt with the top two buttons unbuttoned, no tie, and his sleeves rolled up, revealing a swath of bronze chest and two powerful forearms, giving women more than enough to feed their fantasies.
The perfect man exuding hormones before her was her husband, who sheâd been married to for three years, and even still she felt a little unreal.
Alexiaâs fiery look finally caught Chaimâs attention. He looked up to meet a silly smile.
âWhy are you still standing here?â
Why did she still disgust him, and how come that hadnât changed in the three years since their marriage?
Hearing Chaimâs impatient voice, Alexia quickly changed her expression. âSorry, Iâll go back to my office.â
She turned and headed toward the door.
âWait!â
Alexia turned in confusion, âIs there anything else, Mr. Lancaster?â
Chaim lowered his eyelids and mumbled. âIn a few days, youâll come to the hospital with me again for a checkup.â
