Chapter 64 - Calling the Police

“Don’t come any closer!”

In the dark and narrow dead end, the gangsters approached with malevolent expressions while holding sticks. Their faces were full of lewd smiles.

Qu Xiao was so nervous that her face turned pale. Her legs were weak as she bent down to pick up the bricks on the ground. She stared at the gangsters who were trying to approach her with vigilance.

Her back was pressed against the ice-cold brick wall. Her heart was beating like a loud drum.

Qu Xiao mustered up her courage and growled, “As long as you let me go, I will give you money…”

“But if you dare to touch a single strand of hair on my head, I swear I’ll get every single one of you arrested and put in jail for your entire lives!”

Qu Xiao’s threatening words angered the gangsters. They shook their heads and arms and let out a few cold laughs.

The leader of the gangsters took two fierce steps forward, snatched the brick that Qu Xiao was holding tightly in her hand, and threw it on the ground.

“Stupid woman, you really think we want your dirty money?” The gangster pressed Qu Xiao against the brick wall and acted as if he wanted to take off her underwear.

Tears welled up in Qu Xiao’s eyes as she resisted desperately. Her eyes were filled with despair.

Qu Xiao was helpless against the gangsters and was unable to break free. She used all her strength to stand on her tiptoes and bite the gangster’s ear.

The rich smell of blood pervaded between her lips and teeth as she bit off a piece of flesh from the gangster’s ear.

Slap!

A loud slap landed on Qu Xiao’s cheek, and she staggered and fell to the ground.

Qu Xiao closed her eyes in despair. Suddenly, she heard the siren of a police car, and a blinding light shot out from the entrance of the alley.

“Don’t move! Police!”

The gangsters all held their heads and squatted on the ground. Soon, a figure ran to Qu Xiao. “Are you okay?”

Qu Xiao looked at Shang Xinchen who had run to her side. She forced a smile and said in an extremely soft voice, “At least you have a conscience to get the police to come and save

me.”

Shang Xinchen furrowed his eyebrows and took off his coat and draped it over Qu Xiao’s body.

He gritted his teeth in hatred and wanted to kick the gangster. The police stopped him and reminded him sternly, “Please restrain yourself.”

“You need to follow us back to the police station to make a statement.”

Qu Xiao nodded and stood up. Her face was ashen as she rode the police car to the police station.

Qu Xiao held the warm water given to her by a police officer and looked at him calmly.

Shang Xinchen furrowed his eyebrows tightly. He looked at the woman in front of him who was negotiating terms with him and snorted coldly as he averted her gaze. Buzz buzz, Qu Xiao’s phone rang.

Shang Xinchen saw Shang Yan’s name flashing on the screen and instantly became nervous.

He pressed his index finger to his lips and shook his head in a panic.

Qu Xiao could not control the curvature of her lips and cleared her throat to answer the call.

There was an awkward silence on both ends of the line. Shang Yan took a deep breath and asked, “Did you receive the flowers and chocolates?”

Qu Xiao pushed Shang Xinchen, who was trying to listen in on their conversation, and answered softly, “Yes.”

“I’m sorry about what happened that day. I had wanted to apologize to you face to face.” Shang Yan paused for a moment and promised sincerely, “In the future, this won’t happen again. I’ll always go to you to listen to your explanation first.”

Shang Xinchen’s eyes widened. He could not believe how gentle Shang Yan was to Qu Xiao!

Qu Xiao awkwardly clenched her fist against the corner of her lips. She lowered her voice and said, “Okay.”

“The overseas branch’s matters are more or less settled. Li booked a flight for me to return home at 3:30 pm on Friday…” Shang Yan could not hide his anticipation as he probed, “If you have time, you can also ask the driver to drive you to the airport to relax a bit.”
