I sorta assumed that people were aware but I guess not a lot of translators actually explain the usage. So it’s used to translate [贱人] which really just means lowly person, but in a derogatory way, basically saying that the person has a very low status. Slut isn’t a very accurate translation of the term, but it’s the most convenient and sorta works well in context, which is why most translators just end up translating it that way.
