Everything around me turns hazy, as my ears make a sharp high pitched ringing. I've got a.. flower growing inside of my chest? One that'll kill me, because the person I love doesn't feel the same?
I cant confess to Toya. He has a girlfriend. He won't say yes, and that's obvious. I don't want to have surgery and forget everything about him either. He's my best friend and I've gone through everything with him.
Shit shit shit.
My mum looks at me, shock and denial clouding her green eyes. I breathe out, before she says a thank you to the doctor and we leave. She grabs my hand and shoves me in the car.
"What? Unrequited love?" She said irritably. Why is she annoyed? If I could choose not to have this, I'd have been healthy ages ago.
"Who is it? Who?" She nagged at me. My head hurts so much. I groan and rub my forehead, pleading the whining ache to cut out. My eyes drop closed as I try and shut everything up.
"Akito!" My mum shouts. I'm so stressed out. I'm going to die because of a flower. That's great. This might possibly beat the world record for the best news in the world. The sunflowers I forgot to water are making a comeback on me, I swear to god.
"What?!" I snap.
"Answer me! Who is it? You have to confess to them. I'm sure you don't want the surgery." She said to me evenly, and I breathe out. My mum doesn't know anything about liking boys.
"Erm.. Don't hate me. It's Toya." I see no point in lying. She's my mother, she should deserve to know the person that I'm ready to die for. I squint a little, ready for some kind of outrageous burst of names and swearing, but it never comes.
"How come you never said?" She questioned, starting the car as she drove off. I sigh, looking down at my legs as I pick at some of the material on my trousers, triumphant when I rip off a peice of fluff I've been trying to rid of for days.
"I don't know." I look down, murmuring. I feel slightly bad. I have practically just avoided Toya for a day without any context. I'd imagine he's either pissed off or really confused.
We get back into the house as the sky is dimming, and I trudge up to my room as I slump down onto my bed. I take my shirt off and slip the covers over me, trying to get reasonable sleep.
Spoiler alert, it fails. And miserably. I can't sleep, like, at all. My chest hurts like a bitch, and I keep coughing continuously.
Ena barges in, and she looks damn unhappy.
"Stop coughing before I murder you." She squinted dissapprovingly.
"Love you too." I reply sourly. She rolls her eyes and tuts before she struts out back to her room. She can't talk. All I usually hear at night is her with her little nocturnal friends. Do they ever sleep?
I cough again, but it hurts a whole lot more than the last time. I sit up, covering my mouth with my hand, before I discover a singular petal drift and land in my hand.
Fuck.
I look at the little yellow petal in my hand, breathing out. So it starts.

I shudder a little. It's really damn cold. I'd say I was usually warmer when Akito laid on my chest, but I'm not sure if he would want to see me right now.
I'm terrified that he thinks I'm replacing him. I'm really not. I lay in bed for another 3 minutes to make the time 7:00, before I finally find energy to get up and out of bed for school.
I rub my eyes drowsily and put my light on, wincing as it hits my eyes that take a second or two to adjust. I brush through my hair, because it looks like a bomb just blew up in a birds next.
I get downstairs, and make myself a bowl of cereal, not really caring which one specifically it was. I shove it down my throat, keen to get out.
I just want to see Akito and make sure that he's okay.
I go back upstairs and brush my teeth. I trudge into my room and quickly grab my headphones and play music out of them. It's a playlist me and him share. I don't think I realise how close we actually are.
I fix up my uniform to be spotless, before i sling my bag over my shoulder and leave the house. I know that father is home, so I don't lock the door.

I walk through the courtyard and I feel a small happy feeling when I see Akito still stood in our usual meeting spot. He's talking to An. I wave at them both as I approach them.
"Hey man. Sorry for yesterday. I become a grumpy ass bitch when I feel ill." He itches the back of his head. I blink and smile at him.
"That's okay. I thought so." I say quietly. He looks really tired. Did he get any sleep? His eyebags are dark. He yawns and I settle on the fact that he definitely didn't get satisfactory sleep last night.
"Ohh! Mizuki! You'll never believe what happened!" An ran off. I watch her as she scurries off excitedly, probably talking about the drama they have with this particaular group of girls. Hana walks past us.
"Heya!" She says happily. I smile at her, Akito too.
"She really brings out the expressions in you, huh?" Akito nodded at me. I know that he struggles to see what good I think of Tsukasa, but I think that he can see what I do in Hana.
"Yeah." I nod, smiling. I check the lessons I have today on my phone, and put it away when i memorise them all.
Akito coughs a little, and I frown when i hear the raspiness of it. It's all crackly and it sounds painful.
"Are you sure your fit for school?" I ask, tilting my head a little. I just want him to be okay. I hope he didn't come in just for me.
"Yeah, I'm good. Don't worry. Anyway, I gotta go to maths." Akito smiled, before heading off, waving at me as I do back. I walk in the opposite direction.
He's acting a lot perkier than yesterday, but i have every reason to still suspect something is seriously wrong with him. In a way, he's being too casual.
I walk into my english lesson, to see a test prepared. Nothing was mentioned about it. I hope that Akito doesn't have one, that way I can warn him.
I think about Akito a lot. I don't notice unless I call myself out for it.

I feel my throat burning as I try to press down the cough. There's a couple minutes left of lesson. The person who is usually next to me isn't in today, and thank god. They'd have been questioning if I was okay. I don't need that.
I look up at the time, frustrated at the fact that it always seems to slow down when I wish it would speed up. After the longest two minutes I've ever damn experienced, I get up and walk out, swallowing as I lock myself in the bathroom.
My mouth opens and I cough into my cupped hands. Pain strikes through my chest every time I do. It's as if it's scratching at me from the inside, killing me a little more every second that passes.
Two sunflower petals fall down into my hands. I irritably put them into the toilet and flush it, burying my face into my arm. I am not going to my next lesson.
