Rule 11: Just because your opponent plays for the opposite team, doesn't mean he's such a bad guy
I didn't slap him like last time, I just stood there with my arms still crossed and frozen like a statue... but I kissed him back. I think I was just in a too fragile state to do anything about it. Plus, I can't lie... he is a very good kisser.
My arms finally gave way and I placed my hands on his shoulders, pulling myself closer to him until there wasn't any more room between us. His arms went around my waist tight, like he was afraid to let me go. It felt amazing, but at the same time it felt wrong...
This boy had terrorized my friends for six months straight, there was assault and humiliation, and my favorite: the rock-salt slushy to Blaine, which I know what meant for Kurt but I really can't give a damn about that right now.
I pushed him away as soon as I realised what I was doing. The first time was a fluke, that I understand, but I consented to this act! What does that make me?
"What're you doing? No wait-what am I doing?" I asked.
"I-I thought that you... I mean we..."
"We what?" I asked. Sebastian huffed.
"I thought that maybe I could... make you feel better?" he replied. I scoffed.
"Are you serious?" I asked. He nodded slowly, "Man, I think you ought to start mixing toothpaste with your hair gel, you're getting a cavity in your brain," I said to him and sat back down.
"Very funny. I'm sor-" I gave him a look before he could finish.
"I ask for forgiveness for making another move on you. It was stupid," he said and plopped down next to me.
"Damn straight, you have some kind of issue with me," I said.
"What do you mean, some kind of issue?" he asked. Then it dawned on me.
"You have a crush on me!" I said. Sebastian just scoffed.
"And I think you've had bit too much caffeine in you coffee, it's making you loopy," he replied. I broke out into a wide grin.
"Oh my God, you do have a crush on me!" I beamed.
"I do not!" he protested. I started laughing.
"Oh my dear Lord! Sebastian Smythe: male chauvanistic moron who cares about nobody but his idiotic self, has gone soft on little ol' Reese Lavek!" I exclaimed, then started laughing again.
"Would you stop that? You're going to make me think there's something wrong with you," he said. I finally calmed down and looked at him.
"Alright, alright I'm sorry. But seriously I'm going to get a kick out of that for the rest of my life," I replied.
"PZZT!" he blew a raspberry at me this time.
"You don't even do it right!" I exclaimed
"I will work on it, then," he replied, then he started laughing, "You know, Lavek, I like you. You and I are more alike than we realize," he said.
"Maybe we are, but my body is way better than yours darlin'," I replied. Sebastian smirked at me and leaned down.
"Well, maybe we should test that out," he whispered. I lifted my hand and whapped the back of his head.
"Saw that coming," he said.
"You deserved it," I replied.
"I'm not arguing there," he said. I just shook my head at him and giggled.
"You're so strange, I will never understand Dalton kids. I don't even understand Blaine and he's one of my best friends," I said.
"How so?" he asked.
"Are you kidding me? The boy wears a bow tie one day, neck tie the next, pant cuffs rolled up one day, down the next. I mean the kid's fashion sense is bipolar," I replied.
"See, that's why we wear the uniform, we don't get comments like that," he said.
"Well, what're you going to do? You got locked in a storage locker with a wild woman." I said. Sebastian smiled at me, an actual, genuine smile!
"I like the wild woman," he said. I ended up grinning back.
"Thank you," his hand slipped over mine, and all I did was take it happily. Maybe Smythe wasn't so bad after all? He was an actual, a genuine guy, just a bit of a schmuck.
All of the sudden, we heard a loud click ring through the room, and a large light entered.
The door was open.
"Reese?"
"Charlotte!" I shot up and out from Sebastian's grasp and ran over to my foster mother.
"Reese, what were you doing in there? I've been looking for you for an hour! And whose jacket is that?" she asked. I took off Sebastian's jacket and threw it back to him.
"I got locked in." I said.
"You're not stupid enough to do that," she said.
"I'm not, he is," I pointed to the 6 foot something junior boy with the blank expression on his face. Charlotte looked behind me and met Sebastian's eyes.
"Oh... who's your friend?" she asked. Sebastian walked over and shook her hand.
"Sebastian Smythe," he said. Charlotte looked at me, almost not believing what he had just said.
"Is he serious?" she asked. I just shrugged, that's his actual name.
"Oh! I remember you, I served you and your friends one afternoon. I recognize the robot suits," she joked. Sebastian looked at me, I just shrugged again.
"Who do you think taught me all I know?" I said.
"Well, would you like to stay for a cup of coffee? I just brewed a fresh pot," Charlotte said. No way, I've had enough of Smythe for one day.
"No Charlotte, you saved us and now Dalton boy here's leaving." I replied.
"Oh, are you sure?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'm very sure. Smythe has to go and gel his hair for an hour and listen to Hach's symphony." I replied.
"It's Bach," he corrected.
"Whatever. Come on, Smythe, I'll escort you out," I said and led him out of the restaraunt. I checked the red and white clock hanging over the diner bar, you know we were locked in that damn storage locker for two hours? Two hours of my life I'll never get back.
Outside was almost dark, with spring time leaves blowing around and cars whizzing by, not giving a care about the little diner. An awkward silence filled the air between us, I looked at him and he looked at me... we didn't really know what to say to each other.
"Well, this was certainly quite a day," he said.
"Yeah, never gonna forget this day," I replied with a sigh.
"You okay?" he asked me. I nodded.
"I'm thinking about Dave," I replied.
"We are dedicating out performance to him, I wouldn't lie about that," he said.
"I know... I'm glad you are." I said.
"What're you thinking about?" he asked. I brushed some hair behind my ear and looked up at him.
"I was just about to turn thirteen, and everybody had treated me like dirt. And I thought, what's the point of living if nobody wants you around? So, I downed a bottle of bleach, the last thing I remember was Charlotte coming with trinkets for my new room just as I collapsed. They had to pump my stomach four times before I finally started coming too. I was put in rehab for six months and sent to a therapist for nine. After that I just kept to myself, I thought I'd be dead by sixteen. You know... bleach tastes a lot like sour milk," And that was that. Sebastian smiled at me with a sympathetic look in his eyes.
"Have you ever told your story to anybody else?" he asked. I shook my head.
"No, no you're the first person I've ever told. You should feel honoured," I replied.
"Thank you. You know, you're a beautiful girl, Reese." he said.
"Thanks, you're... an okay guy too," I replied. He chuckled and shook his head.
"Not what I was hoping for but... I'll take it for now," he said. I leaned up and kissed his cheek.
"This competition is still on you know," I said.
"It never ended," he beamed.
"Good, can wait to wipe the floor with your Disney Prince haircut, Andrew McCarthy," I smirked.
"I look forward to it... Betsey Johnson," he smirked right back at me... and not a smug one either.
"Well, I should get back to work. I got to pay off two hours of my life to hungry customers," I said.
"I should go too, I got lacrosse practice early tomorrow," he replied.
"Lacrosse, who the hell invented a game like lacrosse?" I asked.
"Very interesting people," he replied.
"That explains a lot about you," I said.
"That wasn't really an insult," he said.
"... It wasn't meant to be," I smiled.
"See you later, Reese," he said.
"Later, Hairgel," I replied. Sebastian turned away and headed down two steps, then stopped and turned back around.
"Hey, about our little... passive expression earlier..." he was talking about the kiss.
"Never happened?" I asked. He sighed and nodded.
"Never happened," he said.
"Good, now go; go rest up so you can gel your hair for an hour and listen to Sach's symphony," I said and pushed him towards the parking lot.
"It's Bach," he said.
"Seriously dude? I couldn't care less," I replied. Sebastian just snickered and shook his head.
"Right, night Betsey Johnson." he said and turned away.
"Night, Sebastian," I said. He looked over his shoulder and gave me a cheeky grin. I just laughed and went back inside.
Charlotte was at the bar while picking up orders for table four. She smiled when I started putting on my apron.
"That Smythe kid is cute. Is there anything going on between you two?" she asked.
"No! No, absolutely not. The kid's gay," I replied, an impartial lie. Charlotte sighed.
"Aww, too bad, he's very good looking. If he ever turns, you should take him," she said. I picked up my pen and paper and leaned over.
"He's the boy who assaulted Blaine with the slushy," I said before heading over to another table. I peeked behind my shoulder and watched Charlotee's eyes go wide with shock, something I've been doing a lot lately...
