I pull the shirt over my head and flick my hair out of the collar. Then I tie up the red converse that go so well with the flannel jacket I'm wearing. To be honest I look like the stereotypical teenage lumber jack.
It's been a few days staying with Samantha. It's been uneventful to be honest and I'll take the full blame too. Every time Samantha asked if I want to do something. Go into town or grab a bite, I always say no. Can you blame me though? Everything in the city is made for giants, not humans.
I'd say the only exciting that has been completely mapping out the house. And there's way more exits then I expected, which is a good thing. The only problem is that when I get close to the doors leading to the outside world, an alarm goes off and everyone in the house alarmed to come find me.
I've set it off several times alrighty and I got to say it's the most annoying thing I've ever experienced. It's a good thing to note though.
It can come as a good distraction when escaping. Luring everyone to one exit while I slip out the back? Genius! Now all I need to do is execute it! But when?
This escaping thing is going to be harder then I thought. I think to myself.
I walk over to the railing of the loft and look down at everything that's been given to me on a silver platter. These last couple of days have been good, no, great. Samantha and some of the workers here treat me fairly. I'm also allowed to do whatever I want., except leave unless someone is standing over me.
Why even go through hassle of escaping? My subconscious asks me.
This one stupid thought has been pleaguing my mind since I've gotten here. It won't leave no matter how hard I try evade it.
A couple raps on the wall tells me that Samantha is here to pick me up for breakfast. The only time I do something with her is when it time to eat. Sure I can always cook my own food, they aren't five meals.
"Caesar, hurry up!" Samantha says. "Gina is making pancakes."
I haven't lived here long enough to understand how good Gina's cooking is. Gina hasn't been the one cooking for these last couple of days though. Jerome is a good cook, but I haven't seen Samantha get excited about his cooking.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." I say, walking down the steps to the front door.
Samantha, in shorts and a loose t-shirt, is kneeling down with her hand is laid out flat. She has an excited look on her face. This pancakes must be to die for something. I've never seen her so excited.
So when I see that excitement, I walk as slow as possible to her hand.
Samantha huffs and plucks me off the ground. "You're a dick sometimes, you know that." She tells me as she sets me down on her shoulder.
"I've been called worse." I say.
We walk down the steps and right into the dinning room. An old woman is setting the table. She looks up from what she's doing when we walked in. She smiles warmly and has her arms held out for a hug.
Samantha doesn't hesitate and rushes over to the woman. She gives the old lady a hug while I grip the exposed bra strap to hold on.
"It's good to see you again." Samantha mutters, squeezing the older woman a little tighter.
Samantha pulls away from the hug and gestures to me sitting on her shoulder.
"Granny Gina, this is Caesar," Samantha explains. "Caesar this is Gina... the woman who basically raised me."
I get it now. Samantha doesn't care about the pancakes, she cares about her grandmother or godmother. To be honest they look nothing alike, but who am I to judge.
"Hi," I say, waving at the woman.
The woman waves back then gestures for Samantha to take a seat at the table.
Samantha's smiles fades slightly. "Will you be staying?"
Gina pulls out her own seat to show Samantha that she is infact staying.
The two take a seat next to each other.
The table has a stack of three pancakes drenched in butter and syrup. On another smaller plate is a poached egg and a couple of pieces of eggs. Next to that, a small bowl full of varity of fruits and a cup of orange juice.
Me? I sit at my own little table
An empty plate, waiting for food to be served to me by Samantha. Just something about this makes me sick. Waiting for someone else to feed me?
I shouldn't complain, it's a fresh hot meal that actually tastes good. I could always cook for myself.
Now you're just being complacent.
Samantha slices off the tinies piece of pancake and forks it over to my plate. Then a piece of bacon and a bit of egg.
I dig into the meal and by the gods it's good. So good! Sorry, but Jerome. You got to work on your cooking skills a little more.
Samantha wolfs down her pancakes, but keeps her mannerisms about it. I never thought I'd see someone scarf down pancakes so eligantly.
I stare at the fork coming down and stabbing the pancakes then being lifted and stuffed into the large awaiting mouth. I continue to stare as a pit forms in my stomach.
There have been several close calls where I've almost ended up some animals lunch. It's not uncommon for humans to be eaten by larger predators, but the thought of dying that way is sickens me.
Being boiled alive? Fighting for a way out when you know there isn't one? It's terrifying to be honest.
I've never heard of giants eating humans, but then again there are sick people out there. Sick people with money and power.
"Hey, you okay?" Samantha's question pulls me out of the terrible thought.
I shake my head lightly. "Um... uh, yeah, I'm okay. Just... didn't get enough sleep."
Samantha's brows pinch together. She's knows that not the reason, but she doesn't say anything.
We continue to eat peacefully until Samantha gets an unexpected phone call and leaves to answer it.
I'm not sure how comfortable I am with her leaving me here with granny. The elderly woman doesn't look all that interested in me though as she continues to eat her own food. I think that is a good thing, until the dinging room door swings open and then the human hating giantess, Veronica comes walking in.
I can feel my skin crawl just by looking at the woman.
"Hi granny, I can see little miss perfect is done eating." She has the fakest smile on her ugly , dumb face. Gods, I hate her. "And it looks like the rodent joined her."
I flip her off.
She sneers and begins to clear dishes off the table. I watch her carefully as does so. Veronica doesn't care though.
Then a smile creeps up on her face.
That's bad news.
She purposely knocks the glass of orange juice and the table is soon flooded. I get drenched in the process. The cold, sticky liquid, clings to my clothes and soaks me to the bone.
"Whoops." Veronica says with a twisted smile on her face. "Looks like the rodent is wet."
I try shake off the access juice, but what does that matter.
Suddenly, my entire upper body is covered in a tight fist as if I'm trying to suffocated. I try to squirm my way out of the tight grip. Then I lifted up into the air.
Crap. Crap!!
I try to fight my way out of this pycho's grip, but she isn't budging. And even if I did escape, the drop would definitely do damage to my body. I don't know if it would matter anyway though.
My mind is rushing through every thought. I can't find a way out of this one! I can't even scream for Samantha's help.
Then it clicks in my head when feeling the bulge in my pocket. The pocket knife!
I wiggle my arms from the tight and reach for the pocket knife. By the time I get the pocket knife out, I'm free falling for a second or two then...
Splash!
Hot, soapy water envelopes my body in miliseconds. I'm not prepared to hold my breath as I continue to sink through the water. Hell, I can't even open my eyes to see if I'm anywhere close to the surface. It's just flailing around in hot water and darkness.
Well, why aren't you swimming, Caesar?
Let me tell you a little unknown thing about me~! I. Don't know. How to swim!
Never lived close to a river or the ocean, so why would I learn such a useless skill??
It wouldn't be so useless right about now would it!
My shoes touch the bottom on the sink. I try to launch myself back up to the top and flail my arms through the water, then sink back down. I'm running out of time quickly. I can see my vision going back as the last bit of air slips through my lips.
Then a blurry hand breaks the surface and grabs me.
In the moment, I don't care who it is. In a few moments though, I'll wished I had drowned instead.
Once the water surface breaks and I'm set down on the counter. I try to take in a deep breath to fill my lungs with air. My body though has the get rid of all the water I sucked in first. I don't know how long I'm on my knees puking up water, but I can see the giant hand coming back for me.
"Looks like the rat can't swim." Veronica can't help but chuckle. "Maybe you need a little more time in the water- OW!"
As the hand gets closer, my survival instincts kick in and I pull out the knife in my pocket and slice her hand clead open. The giantess yelps in pain as blood drips from her hand. The look of pain morphs into fury and she directs anger at me.
Uh, oh.
I scramble to my feet and begin to run, but the hand is much faster and smacks me hard than enough to send me flying across the counter. The Bouncing and the ramming into wall tells me that I'll be covered in bruises later. Nothing's broken though. Tells ya how durable a human really is.
I try to get to my feet once again, instead, I'm snatched up in a tight hand and brought face to face with Veronica.
"You wretched little freak!!" She snarls.
"Bitch!" I shout, while trying to wiggle out of the grip.
She curls her finger up and flicks me in the face. My head is throbbing in pain, blood gushes from my nose and lip. I can't see straight or think straight either.
"Such a useless and waste of space!" The giantess growls, squeezing me tighter. My bones straining under the pressure. "I should-"
SMACK!
The loud pop fills the air. The giantess stumbles as the hand crosses her face. A shadow overcomes me and I'm pried from Veronica's hand, then pressed against something soft.
Samantha arrived just in time to stop Veronica from whatever it is that she was gonna do.
"And what exactly were you going to do, Veronica?" Samantha questions coldly. So cold that it makes even me shiver.
Veronica is too stunned to speak, looking between me and Samantha.
"She... she cut my hand!" Veronica stammers with anger, showing Samantha the wounded hand. "She deserves to be punished!"
Samantha's face morphs into rage. "Punished?! You tried drowning her!"
Veronica's mouth opens and closes like a gasping fish. "You don't understand! I-"
Samantha steps closer and Veronica shrinks, even though the black haired woman is taller then Samantha. "Get. Out."
The air is cold between the two women, it freezes Veronica in place.
"Do I need to repeat myself?" Samantha says with a snarl.
Veronica stumbles away, holding her wounded cheek.
"Yeah! Fuck you!" My words slur as I shout, flipping the woman off.
I groan and hold my head in my hands. Gods, my head is pounding. I think I have a concussion!
"Daniels!" Samantha calls to the esteemed butler.
The loud noise makes my already pounding head, worse. And to think it couldn't get worse then a burned hand.
"Yes, ma'am." Daniels appears seemingly out of thin air.
"Make sure Veronica leaves this place without taking anything with her."
"Yes, ma'am."
With Veronica taken care of Samantha can finally release a sigh of relief and takes the time to look over me.
She sets me down on the counter. I stumble for a second and fall over, but Samantha, letting out a small gasp, catches me.
"Thanks," I say.
I'm sat down so that she can go get the first aid.
Samantha comes back, setting the first aid down next to me. She pulls out a small rag, squats down to my level and begins to wipe away the blood dripping from my nose and mouth.
"I think I got a concussion." I say.
Samantha can't help but smile. "You think?"
I wave her off and the girl continues to work on my wounds. Her smile quickly fading as she does so.
She sets the rag aside and I thank her for cleaning me up.
She shakes her head. "You shouldn't thank me, I wasn't... what happened shouldn't have."
"Well, yeah, it shouldn't have." I say, wounding the girl. "But it did. And you were there to save me, so... thank you for saving me."
Samantha smiles weakly. "Your welcome." She scoops me back up and coddles me close to her chest.
Call it a gut feeling or something, but I swear Samantha was going kiss me on the head right then and there.
"I suppose for the next few days you can call me Nurse Gains." Samantha jokingly says.
"Are you gonna wear a little nurse outfit too." I ask in the same joking manner.
Samantha snorts. "You'd like that wouldn't you."
"Eehhhh, no. Scrubs, gloves and needles aren't... really my jam." I say, hesitantly.
Samantha looks down at me. From the look on her face, she was thinking of a completely different outfit. One of those scimpy halloween ones. Yeah, I wouldn't like that either. It's just... Doctors and hospitals... I don't like them.
Samantha walks out of the kitchen, up the stairs, and into her room. She lays me down on the large pillow. I don't try to get up, the throbbing head and the lights are too much for me.
"I'm going to down to talk to granny," Samantha says. "Promise me you'll stay here."
I give her a thumbs up before rolling over on my side to rest.
The lights flick off and door clicks shut as Samantha leaves. I'm left alone in the dark and silence.
Right now would be a great time to escape, but I weighed down by the pounding in my head. Instead, I let sleep take hold of me.
The faster I can recover, the sooner I can get out of here.
