Samantha
I storm out of the bathroom, Caesar safely tucked back in my breast pocket. Rather then marching back into my biology class, I head straight to the front office. The empty hallway makes it much easier to get there.
The office is just past the first floor library. It's all glass and being held up by metal support beams. Theres decor of the school mascot and 'never give up' type quotes plastered on the wall. I walk straight into the front office, the front desk lady on the phone looks at me with a fake smile and holds up her finger, signing for me to wait, but I don't have the patience for it.
I march to the back where principle Norburn's office is. The office lady shouts at me to that I shouldn't go back there yet. Obviously I don't listen.
The man is sitting in his chair with his feet up on the desk and talking on the phone as well, most likely with his wife, but I wouldn't put it past if he had a mistress either. He flicks a toy football in the air as he chats.
He has well kept fake hair and skin that makes him look like crispy bacon. Despite his looks and his care free type attitude, Principle Norburn does keep the school running and in order.
I don't spare him any politeness and barge right in. "Principle Norburn."
The man nearly falls out of his chair. He scrambles to get his feet off his desk and sheepishly tells the person on the other end of the phone that he'll call them back.
The man sits up properly and adjusts his tie. "Miss Gains, how many times have I, and Dedra, told you not to burst into my office unannounced?"
I ignore his question, and his authority, and sit down in front of his desk. "Mr. Norburn, I have a problem."
The man grumbles something under his breath. Something along the lines of when do you not, which I don't care about, not right now.
"Ms. Halsworth has violated the Humans protections act." I say.
The principle looks at me with a raised brow. It's a serious accusation, but it's true. I have the evidence to prove it too.
Mr. Norburn adjusts his tie and folds his hands on the table. "That's a serious accusation, Samantha."
"And a true one too."
Norburn's eyes narrow and his brows furrowed. He clearly doesn't like where I'm going with this. What I can't tell is if it's because of me or if it's because of the accusations I've brought to him.
Mr. Norburn and I have butt heads before on many topics, mostly reigning from human rights and protection for them on campus. And since my dad funds a good chunk of the school, the higher ups are afraid to face me when I bring up certain issues. Norburn, though, not so much. He has argued with me on several occasions.
But I'm not going to waste my breath arguing this time around. I want Ms. Halsworth fired for what she's done to Caesar.
"If it's true, I'm assuming you have some form of proof?" Mr. Norburn asks, weaving his fingers together and resting his elbows on the desk.
"I do," I say reaching in for my pocket, plucking up Caesar by the waist. She grips my index finger as I do so. "Mr. Norburn, this is Caesar."
I set Caesar down in the palm of my hand. She looks disoriented and scared. Some bells start going off in my head, but being in my anger fogged state of mind, I ignore the warnings.
"Caesar has been under Ms. Halsworth's thumb in the past. She's been abused and tormented during that time." I state.
Mr. Norburn's eyes shift, clearly processing the information. He doesn't believe me though. "Samantha... I don't want to burst your bubble but Ms. Halsworth has worked with us for years and has been around humans for a long time. There's no been no sign of her being violet towards them."
I frown and reach for the hem of Caesar's shirt. "But if you'll just-" I pull up the human's shirt, exposing her scar covered stomach.
"Samantha!!" Caesar shouts, ripping the shirt out of my fingers and pulls it back down.
I'm taken aback. The principal is even taken back by the girl's out burst. That or he's gotten a glimpse of the torture that Caesar has endured. But he doesn't seem to have seen it given his response.
"Samantha, I suggest you get your human under control before you come in here and start accusing one of our teachers of abuse." He says.
"But-"
"I'm done with this conversation." Mr. Norburn gets from his seat and walks up to me. "Come back here with proper evidence and a more stable human, and I might give you the time of day." Norburn pushes me out his office. "Good day." The door slams shut in my face as I try to get something to come out of my mouth.
My jaw screws up, tightening in frustration. In anger I stomp out of the front office, dragging anger with me throughout the school. I make my way back to the bathroom from before.
"What the hell was that?" I growl at the human.
"What the fuck do you mean?" Caesar snaps back.
"I could have gotten Halsworth fired, arrested even." I explain. "If we had shown Norburn what Raven did to you-"
"We? You think that just because I showed you my scars gives you a right to them?" Caesar cuts me off angrily.
"That's not what I meant, Caesar." I say, trying to back track.
"It sure fucking sounds like it." Caesar glares at me, her arms crossed, waiting for the explanation I'll cough up.
My mouth in anger but quickly get a grip. I don't want have anymore out of pocket unstable outbursts like last time.
"I acted fast and I'm sorry for that, but that whole time I was thinking about what Halsworth did to you and it made my blood rage." I say, hoping, no, knowing she'll understand. "I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions so quickly."
Caesar's glare doesn't soften. She's thinking about what to say next. I know she agress with me and I can say that with confidence. I don't believe she would sympathize with someone as dangerous as Halsworth.
The human sighs and rums her temple. "As much as I agree with you, I'm not one who likes to show off her tramautized body." She says averting her gaze. "And as satifying as it would be to get Raven fired, we can't barge in and slap the cuffs on her wrists without coming up with a game plan."
Right. I may have ruined the chance today, but tomorrow, we'll be better prepared. I'll be better prepared.
"You're right," I say, biting the inside of my cheek. "Damn, I let my emotions get the better of me again."
"Happens," Caesar responds casually.
"Okay, but it should happen less,"
Caesar doesn't say anything this time.
I look at my wrist watch. There's still about twenty minutes left of class. I hoped we run down the clock with this, but luck doesn't seem to be on our side today.
I open my pocket and hold my other hand close so Caesar can climb back into my pocket. "We should get back to-..." The gears in my head stop me as I come to a realization sooner rather then later.
"What is it?" Caesar asks, looking up at me.
In classic detective thinking style, I tap a finger against my cheek and avert my eyes. "I don't like the thought of going back to class."
"Okay, then we skip."
I huff and roll my eyes. "We can't just skip class, Caesar. I'm already going to get in trouble for running out."
"Okay, then what do you want to do?" Caesar asks.
I pause and think for a moment. "There's still a chance Miss. Halsworth will demand that you be put in the cage, but if I hide you then maybe she won't force it."
Caesar looks at me with skepticism. "Are you thinking about what I think you're thinking about?"
There's an awkward pause.
"Maybe," I mumble.
A hefty sigh comes from Caesar. The human slaps her forehead and drags her hand down her face. "You know, this is becoming more frequent than usual, Samantha, I'm starting to think you like it."
"Oh, yeah, says the girl who has openly admitted to liking breasts." I respond quickly, looking at Caesar with a raised brow.
"It's not my fault that I like boobs." Caesar grumbles crossing her arms.
I lower Caesar on to the sink counter and begin to undo my vest then the white button up. I peak a glance at Caesar who respectfully has her back turned and her eyes lowered to the ground. Her hands pat the side of her thigh. A sign that she's nervous.
I undo the third button and reach for my girlfriend.
This time, she stares not so respectfully and blood rushes to her face.
Rather lowering Caesar in right away, I bring her close to my lips first and peck on the cheek. "Try to relax, okay. It'll only be for 20 minutes."
I make enough space to snuggly squeeze Caesar in, placing her right up against my sternum. When pulling my fingers out a tiny hand grabs the tip of my index finger. Tiny warm lips kiss the digit and then let go.
I pull the finger out and bring it close to my lips, returning the kiss. We leave the bathroom and head back to class.
The walk back is quiet except the click of my heels. I peak in the window to see my fellow classmates working away. The embarrassment of walking into the classroom and receiving a scolding in front of everyone is harassing my brain. It's impossible to avoid it though.
I take in a deep and exhale before opening the door. Everyone, like mere cats, looks up and stares at me. The first person I lock eyes with is Ashley. She gives me the throat slicing gesture, signaling imminent death for me.
"Miss Gains." Ms Halsworth's voice freezes the air instantly. My head wipes over to the woman sitting at her desk. "Hallway. Now."
I step back out into the hall. The door gets close to closing before it yanked back open and slammed shut.
"I don't know what game you're getting at, Samantha, but I will not starting this semester with such tomfoolery." The woman growls, quickly stepping in my space and pointing a finger at my chest. "Now explain to me why you ran out of this class room as if it were on fire?"
The gears in my brain go from being frozen to a sports car blazing down the highway. "I started my period."
Halsworth's eyes narrow into sharp glare. Their sharper then the ice picks one would use to climb mountains. "Liar. It had something to do with that human of yours, didn't it."
My jaw tightens, but I refuse to let the anger control me this time. "She wasn't feeling well and threw up, so I took her to the nurses office."
The woman doesn't like that answer either. "So you're neglectful of a human? That has serious consequences, Samantha."
"You'd know about those consequences wouldn't you." I snap back.
"Excuse me? How dare you-"
"I know what you did to her." I cut the woman off, my brows furrowing with anger and my eyes sharpening into daggers.
Raven's angered expressions grows cold like a psycopath does once he's been made. Her eyes though hold some form of joy as if she's happy to be found out. "Ah, so you found out about our fun little pass times."
I have to bite back some colorful, and extremely accurate words, before opening my mouth again. "You're a monster."
"Monster?" Halsworth crosses her arms, cocking her head to the side, puffing her chest out. "Science has a very interesting way of labeling people these days."
"How about a lack of human empathy?" I growl.
"See that's were the so-called monster label comes in for you, Samantha." Halsworth says. "Humans aren't worth the empathy."
I'm starting to think monster isn't the proper word to use for her. Bitch isn't the right word either. Hellspawn is an insult every demon and abomination is too generious. Maybe there isn't a word that's been created yet to explain what Raven Halsworth really is. She can quiet possibly be the ted bundy of humans.
"If you so much as look at her the wrong way, I'll have you fired and your name dragged to hell and back that not even God himself can bring it back in His good graces." I snarl, fists clenched, teeth barred.
Halsworth rolls her eyes as it's another monday. "Please, petty threats, Samantha. I thought the Gains family had more class then this. Besides, its been over two years since Caesar and I crossed paths, so I've been exempt from any punishment that could be placed on me now."
She's right. Since humans have such little rights, the system doesn't keep track of human cases after a year. It's a skewed system and giants don't care. But if I can prove to Norburn that Halsworth is dangerous towards humans then I can at least get her fired.
"I'll find a way,"
"Oh, yes, with your father's money I'm sure." Halsworth says as she reaches for the door and pulls it open. "Go in and take your seat. I won't ask for the human since she seems to be feeling a bit under the weather today, but tomorrow I expect her to be in that cage."
If my jaw tightens anymore then it already is then I'll break a couple of teeth, or worse get lock jaw. But I comply with Halsworth and go in to take my seat without a fight. A sheet of paper is already on the desk waiting for me.
Ashley helps catch me up to speed on the assignment, but there isn't enough time to finish it. With five minutes left in class, Ms. Halsworth tells everyone to turn in their work.
"This will be your first grade." She declares. I doubt it was meant to be the first grade until now. I'm sure a she's going to try and make my year horrible because she can't torture Caesar.
I turn in the nearly complete assignment and wait patiently next to Ashley.
"What happened?" She asks.
"I'll tell you after school." I adjust the straps on my pack. Caesar wiggles a bit to adjust her position, trying not to slip any deeper. The feeling of her squirming about isn't comfortable, but I try not to let it bother me. "What you need to know now is that she's a bitch."
"Halsworth? Why?"
"Again, after school."
I walk off to go to my next class.
The twenty minutes turn into the rest of the day. I feel terrible, but I didn't comfortable pulling Caesar out. Having such a dangerous giantess around has put me on edge.
The walk to the car eases the tension though. I do prepare for the annoyed stare and a couple of grumbles when I pull Caesar.
I get in the car and quickly begging to unbutton my shirt. I take one quick glance around to make sure no one is nearby. Then I reach in for Caesar.
My finger bump against her head. "Sorry,"Slowly my finger slither down more and I pinch the girl under her armpits and pull her own.
"Sorry," I say setting her down on my steering wheel. "I just got wrapped up in a lot of stuff and couldn't find the right time to take you out."
Caesar doesn't have her signature grumpy look. That's a surprise and oddly suspicious.
"It's okay, I didn't mind that much." She answers, resting her hands in her lap.
"Right. I forgot that that's your favorite spot." I say jokingly.
Caesar looks up and gives a weak smile. She has a long face and it concerns me.
"Hey," I put a finger under her chin. "Are you worried about Raven?"
She nods.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to let her touch you." I say gently.
"Promise."
I hesitate to answer. It's a serious promise to keep. And since it seems that Raven is untouchable right now, I might not be able to protect her.
But...
If I can get dad on my side and he tugs on some strings then there's a chance I'll be able to do it. I'll have Caesar by my side at all times during the school day then I won't be worried about that satan spawn hurting her.
"I promise." I say.
