Chapter 18 of 23

Home of her own *mini chapter*

Samantha

As the last full week of summer comes to a close - and Caesar and I being in the honeymoon faze of our relationship; it's dawned on me that maybe some separation would be healthy for the two of us. Reflecting on my past relationship with Tex who I had by my side at all times, it's better that way.

I still have my doubts about Caesar having her own house, but with Dad home now, maybe I'll try to convince him to make some kind of safe, well structured home for Caesar out in the back yard.

As much as I don't want to part with my tiny girlfriend, it'll be okay. I still have the freedom to check on her and see how she's doing. It's not like she'll disappear into the woods.

That's not to say that I've thought about putting a tracker on her to be aware of her ware abouts. The thought was quickly shut down. I know without a shadow of a doubt that Caesar would not like that.

Until then she'll stay with me, duh, and I will talk to Dad about building a custom home for her.

Right now, the two of us are at my desk, scrolling through the last minute school check list to make sure Caesar is prepped to go to school again.

"You excited for school?" Caesar asks, walking up my fore arm, to the elbow, and turning back to go down to my hand.

I shrug. "Yes and no. It's my senior year then I'm whisked away to some college across the country to study for some degree that doesn't matter in the real world as long as I have a peice of paper." My response isn't supposed to come out as dejecting and harsh, but it does.

This year does stress me out to be honest.

"Hey, if it makes you feel better, it's my first year in high school, so if you wanna stay three more years then I wouldn't mind."

I blink, surprised, but I shouldn't be. I'm sure it's illegal to deny a human a poper education. It's possible that the laws have changed - for the upteenth time.

Once the forms have been double checked and submitted, I close the tab and look at the screen blankly while my brain figures out what it wants to do. My fingers glide around on the mouse pad, watching the curser on the screen make infinity signs.

My thoughts wonder back to thinking about Caesar having her own house. Rather then rethinking what I've already made up my mind, I think about Caesar's own home. Where she came from before being taken away. What she was like before everything that has happened to her.

I shut the laptop and lean back in my seat. Caesar fumbles around her feet, trying to keep her balance. I watch, my free hand ready to catch her if she can't catch herself. Caesar straightens herself out and continues walking.

"Caesar," I say. "What was your home like?"

Caesar pauses and looks up at me. The look on her face tells me that she's in deep thought. "I can't really remember that much, honestly..." she answers in a dejected tone.

She sits down on my arm and slides off onto the table. "I remember living in a small town, deep in the woods, on the boarder between the U.S. and Canada. My Mom and Dad were very caring and spoiled me a lot. I had a best friend, Mai, that I hungout with a lot, but... other then that..." She shrugs her shoulders and stuffs her hands in her pockets. "not much else."

That's sad to hear. She's been away for so long and through so much that she can't remember home. I have a feeling that there may not be much I can do to make her feel like she's home, not when she's stuck in a house built for giants.

If there is one thing I can do, and will do now, is get Caesar a home of her own.

AN: The current chapter that I'm working on is taking much, much longer then I'd like to admit, so I'm going to write a few shorter chapters that still had some substance to the story and aren't as long. Sorry for the long wait, so much has happened over the break.
