Chapter 10 of 23

Comfort *mini chapter*

Samantha

Her chest rises and falls slowly and rhythmically. Caesar is all curled up in a loose ball under my hand. She desperately clings to my thumb, holding it tightly her chest.

Every now and then a fit of whimpers and sobs come from her and I whisper softly to the blonde human to ease her mind.

I watch her carefully across the pillow, waiting for the next little attack. I wonder what it is that Caesar is dreaming about. Could it be she's dreaming about the scars? What is she sorry about? It almost sounded like she was begging for forgiveness.

It's odd. I never thought I'd hear Caesar apologize to me. She's the toughest, most stubborn, human I've ever met. And yet, I get the feeling there's a gentle side to her. One that's much kinder and gentler than I could ever be.

But there's this stone cold and hateful exterior that's been her armor for too long. Now she's letting it all out at once now. No one can handle that properly.

Another whimper escapes Caesar's lips and she squeezes my thumb tightly in protest to the nightmare she enduring. She's fighting her inner demons right now.  The question for me though is why now? What triggered such harsh event for her? Was it because of me?

"I'm here." I say tenderly, giving the girl a gentle squeeze to calm her down. "I'm here for you."

I pull myself closer to the blonde in hopes that it'll bring her some form of extra comfort. My body moves on its own though, my heart having other ideas and I peck the girl gently on the head.

I suppose my brain remembered the way my parents comforted me when I was a child. It seems to have helped when I was younger and think it's helped now.

Caesar has settled down now, the look of fear and panic slowly seeping away.

"It's alright, Caesar." I mutter. "I promise I'll fix you."
