They say you have different types of laughs for different situations. Every one has their nervous laugh, the cackle, the just blowing air through your nose laugh, the 'that's totally not fully but i'll give you a LOL for effort' laugh and the whole hearted, snort laugh.
Well this? This situation is definitely a no sound, crying, clapping like a seal laugh. Using my index finger I wiped just under my water line and dragging outwards, my mum always taught me to do this when you're crying. It reduces smudging and prevents you looking like a panda, when you're wearing make-up and it just became a habit.
I wiped my hands of my jeans, fanned myself a took a few breaths. I pointed to Dr. O'Shea "oh you're funny, thank you I needed that."
She gave me a small smile. It's one of those smiles you give to cute, clueless children when they ask what we would deem 'stupid' questions or just say something adorable out of the blue. She placed a hand on mine that are resting on my lap. I looked down at her hands and then looked at her, raising my eyebrow.
"I'm not joking sweetie, you're pregnant."
My smile dropped. I searched for any sign that she was messing with me, I couldn't find any.
"CrazyDoctorOnDrugsTalkingJibberishSayWhat?"
"I thought you knew, you're going to be a mother."
What has she been smoking? I'm too young to be a mother. No way, no how, nu-uh.
"I'm sorry Gabriel but the name's Alex not Mary"
"What?"
"This isn't immaculate conception."
"I'm not following."
"It is impossible for me to be pregnant."
"Darling, contraception isn't always 100% effective."
She's really not following me at all. I swear girls like me are like bloody unicorns this day in age. I guess i'm going to have to spell it out.
"Mine is."
"What? Now that's impossible"
"No it's not see i'm a Virgin."
She was shocked. She took a few steps back and gave me the look that a mother would give a child when asking them if they took the cookies. We all know that "don't-you-dare-lie-to-me-because-I-will-find-out-the-truth' look.
When I held her stare she knew I was serious.
"Are you sure?"
Am I sure? Yes, Because I wouldn't notice a guy between legs.
"Yes, i'm sure."
She scurried out of the room like a headless chicken. I sat on the bed swinging my legs like a child, enjoying the view from the window. The sun is shining and I can see the new recruits doing their jumping jacks. Training is something you never forget, now before you get smart, I mean the experience. Marines in your face shouting at you. Treating you like what you are, bottom of the food chain. If you let it, the course will chew you up and spit you out.
When you're training it's hell. You think they get some weird satisfaction out of it and boy do they. It's a way of life, it's like initiation. Everyone has to go through it. It separates the weak from the strong. They do their best to break you, you come out a Marine or exactly that, broken. In my case the Corp was my saving grace.
There was a gust of wind alerting me to someone opening the door. Frantic Dr. O'Shea came in. She checked my chart again. She looked like she was about to pull her hair out.
"I'm sorry about the wait."
"You're fine, don't worry. I was just reminiscing on the old days."
She gave me a weak smile which I tried to mirror. Hopefully my attempt was better than hers.
"So what's the word hummingbird?"
You could say i'm taking this really well but honestly i'm confident in myself. I'm not pregnant. I know that for a fact. Plus it's funny to watch her all worked up.
I do have to admit it does have me thinking of what if I was......
Sure i'm still a kid myself but i'm starting to think i'll never be old enough to know better.
"Well, you were right. You're not pregnant. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I don't know what went wrong but we retested your blood and you are definitely 100% NOT with child. No bun in the oven."
Ahh, she's a panic rambler.
I slid off the chair, put my jacket on and fixed myself. She stopped rambling as I started moving.
"Thank you Ma'am"
I was just about to leave when she grabbed my hand.
"I truly am sorry, but you're young and beautiful. You have your full life ahead of you, don't let it go to waste."
She let go of my arm and I closed the door. I pulled the collar of my jacket up, I wrapped my arms around myself. It's not cold, sure there's a breeze but it's quite nice actually. I guess wrapping myself up is just an attempt to block everything out while I try to process what just happened.
I slid my hand into my pocket and pulled out my phone, secretly hoping that someone would be worried or at least curious but nothing. I don't need someone to look our for me or to protect me, i'm a big girl but it's nice to know that someone is doing that for me.
I wonder what Luke's been doing. I was apprehensive about leaving him this morning but I couldn't bring him. He's not exactly the type to just wait outside. This was something I had to do on my own. I wasn't going to leave him with my parents, he and my dad already scream trouble. Luckily my parents decided to take a day trip up to my Aunt and Uncles house. So Luke was left at my house on his own. It sounds like he's a puppy who can't be left alone.
Seeing as our house is only a few minutes walk from the Barracks it didn't take long to get back.
I opened the door to find Luke sleeping like a baby on the couch and the TV on............sleeping like a baby. Oh i'm so punny.
Agonisingly slow I opened the buttons on my coat. My hands are numb, so this tasked proved to be more difficult than usual. Between the wind and my history of cold hands, this isn't news to me. I unzipped my coat, constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure I didn't wake Luke up. I hate being woken up myself, so just practising what I preach, and attempting to be quiet.
I put my phone on the table in the hall and hung my coat on the banister. I brought my hands up to my mouth and cupped them. I breathed into them in an attempt to warm them up, even a smidge.
It was a waste of time.
I looked down at Luke, who's laying length ways on the long part of the corner couch. You know the type of sofa that's in the shape of a 'L'. He looks like a god, how is that even possible? Even the way his hair is tossed is perfection. With one arm behind his head and his legs stretched out, his top is raised a bit giving me a sneak peak of his abs. I had to close my mouth just to make sure I didn't drool.
Looking at him on the couch there is an angel on my shoulder telling me to leave him be. But the Devil, oh that horny little devil. Telling me to put my cold hands on his stomach and then have my way with him. Watch his muscles flex as he hovers above me or feel his hot breath on my neck as he pins me to the be- Whoa. Went to the dark side there for a minute.
I went to the cupboard got a blanket and then went to put the heating on. I would light a fire but i'm not allowed near fire. Not after the incident of '07.
I wrapped myself in the blanket and changed the channel. The only thing left to do was to sit down. I plonked myself down next to Luke, I was getting comfy and just about to put my legs up onto the chair when I felt an arm wrap around me. Next thing I know i'm resting on Luke's chest.
"How did you know I was there?"
"I could smell you"
My jaw dropped. How dare he. "Excuse you, I had a shower this morning."
"No I mean your scent, a wolf has to rely on their sense of smell to find their mate if they're not mated."
This sparked my curiosity "What do I smell like?"
"Everything I want."
I shook my head, he's so cheesy. Then I got a cold shiver down my spine and goose bumps.
"You Cold Princess?"
I let his warmth embrace me, I snuggled my head into his chest and hummed in response. His grip tightened.
"Well we can't have that now can we."
He pulled me on top of him completely. I intertwined our legs and resting my chin on his chest I looked up at him through my lashes. His eyes were still closed, so I snaked my hand down to his bare stomach and danced my freezing cold fingers across his skin, the sparks lingering. His eyes shot open and he looked down at me. Biting my lip I tried to suppress a giggle as I gave him my best innocent look.
He chuckled "you'll be the death of me darling but first I have an idea of how to warm you up."
Don't ask me how but he managed to flip us on this tiny couch without one or both of us falling off.
I suddenly felt very small, his large frame shielding me from the cold. The light rays sparkling in his crystal blue eyes.
Everything I wanted to say, everything I was thinking is gone. My thoughts clouded with him, my heart racing because he's near. This boy takes my breath away, literally. Breathing becomes a difficulty whenever he's around. He's toxic and i'm slipping under.
I grabbed his top and closed the space between us. I'm not that patient. Nothing needed to be said because our actions say it all. Our hands are restored to their rightful places. Mine tugging in his hair and his around my waist.
I've learnt that he's a gentlemen until he wants something. Normally in books you read about the boy swiping his tongue across her bottom lip begging for entrance. Ya well not right here, not right now. He gently bit down on my bottom lip and tugged slightly, he wasn't "asking" for entrance he was telling. But hey i'm not protesting. I opened my mouth letting him deepen the kiss. Our lips moved in sync, his are just so soft, plump and irresistible. It's nothing like you read in books, it doesn't compare. It's better, it's impossible to put into words. It's impossible to make you feel what i'm feeling without kissing you myself. I'm sure someone could do it but that someone is not me and i'm sorry but you're stuck with me.
I reached down and lifted the ends of his shirt. Leaving my own hint. He let go of my waist and lifted his shirt over his head. Exposing his various tattoos and scars. Scars from the clumsiness of a robust boy and various fights. Each mark, adding to his personality, making him the man I love.
Things were getting serious. He was going for a home run and it looks like the opposition have disappeared, it's a clear run from here but can he score?
I heard a car door slamming and the sound of my parents voices. My eyes shot open, I pushed Luke off me. He landed on the floor with a thud and groaned. I put on hand behind me and used that to propel myself off the couch and over the back. I pulled myself together, tied my hair up in a ponytail and leaned on the back of the couch just as the front door opened.
"Come on sleeping beauty, wakey wakey."
Luke looked so confused but soon caught on.
When my dad came in he looked at me. That look asked me the question that I was hoping to avoid. I just shook my head and smiled through the tears that filled my eyes. My dad understands how I am. So he just went about his business pretending like I'm not an emotional wreck in front of him. Which I love him for.

Luke took me for a midnight stroll after dinner. It was random, it was out of the blue but it was perfect.
He grabbed my hand and refused to tell me where we're going. But I knew this path, oh I new this path all to well. After all I am the one who brought him here only yesterday.
We walked up to the lake and I sat in the tyre swing. Luke pushed me, we were quiet just enjoying this moment together. Luke brought the swing to a stop and the only sound was our laughter, until it was just mine. He walked around and stood in front of me.
"Luke why did you bring me here?"
"You ask too many questions princess, just listen to me."
He pulled me off the swing but stabilised me with a kiss. He then took a step back and got on one knee.
