You know how you go through your life thinking you were normal?
Well, that's what I thought too.
That is until I met Lucianus Kairos Desdemona when I was 17 years old.
He got hurt, broke into my house then helped himself to the first aid kit and then later, me.
For us, nothing was supposed to happen later. But then, I met him again in college when he came as a guest speaker.
I'm not sure if it's him or me who initiated it, but we somehow bumped into each other at the after-party. He spilled a drink on me and then offered to pay for the cleaning fee. We exchange numbers.
One meeting became two, and two became three.
Then, another first kiss.
But, he took that away again.
Lucian returned to my life a few days before my 19th birthday. We bumped in the elevator on my way to class, but then the elevator stopped working. While we were stuck inside, we started talking and then, again, exchanged numbers.
Another date.
Another broken heart.
Lucian returned my memories, and we got into a fight. Well, not much of a fight, but I was angry at him. Angry and upset that he took away us without my permission.
Somehow, he sweet talked me into forgiving him. We stayed together for two months until he told me he couldn't stay anymore. He begged for my forgiveness, and when I gave it to him, he took away us again.
At least, that time, he did it with my permission.
Then, he came back on Christmas and stayed until New Year.
My 20th birthday.
And then, 21st.
In and out he goes in my life.
And now, with all my memories back, I understood why I can never commit to a relationship or even a second date.
He fucked me up.
"Mira," Lucian says, "Are you angry?"
When I opened my mouth, laughter came out, "Am I angry?" I shake my head, "No. By now, I think I'm used to you erasing my memories."
Lucian grabbed the box of jewelry and placed it in front of me, "You have impeccable taste, as always."
I cross my arms and exhale a sharp breath to calm myself down, "Really? You screw me on my birthday and then you ghost me with a note?"
"Mira-"
"I couldn't sleep for weeks, because I thought I got drugged by a random man at the club," I inhaled a sharp breath, "And I went to the hospital to get tested."
"Please-"
"And you want to know what's even more...funny?"
"You're going to tell me."
"Oh, I'll tell you." I took a step closer, "I went to the hospital."
He exhaled.
"I went to the same damn hospital so often, because I keep waking up without any recollection of what happened! They gave me a pamphlet to see a psychiatrist!"
"I-"
"And-" The volume in my voice dropped, "They referred me to a sex addiction counselor."
"You are upset."
I nod.
Lucian leans against the glass and then taps it once. The jeweler came out from the back, "Yes, Your Grace?"
"Wrap up everything within this aisle."
"You think buying me new jewelry that I can't remember or touch will make me feel better?" All the clothes and jewelry Lucian ever brought for me are in the vacation homes we went to together. He buys me a gift. I wear it once. Then, never again unless we return to that particular location.
Lucian holds my cheeks, but I turn my head away. He didn't allow me to have an opportunity to mope about the situation. "Darling."
I hold up my wall.
Lucian tilted his body until my body was pressed against the glass. I continued to ignore his presence. "Our time is limited, darling. So, please forgive me."
I huffed a breath, "No more making me wake up naked in random hotel rooms."
He smiles, "Promise."
Afterward, Lucian whisp me out of the shopping plaza, and towards a romantic outing. "Shoot. The guard-"
"No need to be concerned about him," he responded. "He's following you around the mall while you pout about wishing you had more money to purchase the items."
Lucian, like many other Immortals, has a special kind of power. His power is mind control or something along that line. I hate his power. Primarily because I'm a victim of it. If I wasn't and I had his power, it'd be so cool.
A black car pulled up and a man stepped out. Lucian opened the door, and I got inside the spacious car. When the door closed, Lucian had his attention on me while I stared out the window. Although this isn't my first time going through the city, it is my first time outside of the popular destination.
"How did you know I was here?" I asked.
"I'm surprised you're still asking that."
Lucian isn't wrong, it was a silly question. Before I even knew we were in a relationship, Lucian had people trail my every movement. That was also one of our fights. I like to think I'm old enough to do things on my own, but Lucian thinks otherwise. According to him, he has a lot of enemies and the last thing he wants is for me to get hurt.
I tolerate it because I also don't want to get hurt.
"Was that you on the plane ride here?"
Lucian smiles, "Perhaps."
I knew that voice sounded familiar.
Lucian grabbed my waist and settled me on his lap, "How is it possible?"
"Hm?"
"You got even more beautiful than the last time we met."
I know he's pulling things out of his ass to soothe me, but it doesn't stop me from feeling all gushy by his words. He holds me tenderly and kisses me. Similar to our other kisses, it started soft until he was in between my legs.
When I feel Lucian's hard-on between my legs, I push him away, "Okay. Enough make-out, I want to see the city."
The car stopped, and Lucian groaned in frustration. "I believe you had forgiven me?"
"I forgive, but I don't forget." I point a stern finger at him, "Don't you dare."
He places his hands in the air as a form of surrender.
The driver opened the door, and my eyes widened at the beautiful park.
Lucian and I spent the day going to famous and private destinations. In the center of the city, on the rooftop were Lucian and me. We were seated at a round table beside the outdoor fire. When the wind picked up, Lucian wrapped a coat around my shoulders. Once in a while, he would lean down and kiss me.
Our meals were brought out, and even though Lucian didn't have to eat, he would humor the situation and eat alongside me.
Near the end of the night, I was on his lap with my arms wrapped around his neck. "I don't want to forget again."
Lucian held me firmly, "I'm sorry, my love."
I lost track of the number of times Lucian apologized to me. Sometimes, I wonder if he's truly sorry or if he's simply saying it to please me.
"I got something for you," Lucian says.
I played along, "What is it?"
Lucian pulled a box out of the bundle of flowers. He opened the box, and a red rhinestone bracelet came into view. "Wow," I said.
Lucian took out the bracelet and wrapped it around my wrist.
I hold the bracelet and allow it to shine against the moon. When the realization hit, I pouted.
"My love, what's wrong?"
"I'm sad that I won't see this again for some time."
Lucian smiles, "This bracelet is yours," he says. "To keep."
"Really?"
He nods, "Yes."
I hugged him.
"Mira."
I gripped tighter and shake my head, "Not yet."
"It's getting late."
I hate this part.
"We will meet again."
When I didn't respond, Lucian gave me a weak smile before he covered my eyes. "Today, you had a wonderful time at the mall. After you finished, the guard took you home and you ate in your room. You fell asleep."
I can feel the tears rolling down my cheek.
"As for the bracelet, it's a family heirloom. You've had it since birth. Your mother passed it to you before you left the country, and you never have any desire to take it off."
