Chapter 41
âFly?â Jack asked bluntly. âHave you grown wings?â
âCan you not take my words so literally?â Violet squinted at him, sounding slightly annoyed. âAre you going to let her go or
not?â
âYou canât leave.â He looked impertubable, speaking in a low and pleasant voice. âTheo Yeager wonât let you leave.â
âMy legs arenât attached to his body. Why do I need his permission?â
Jack turned and scrutinized her, contemplating something. âLooks like you donât like to play games.â
âWhat does that mean?â
Jack laughed. âGrandpa is suppressing the Yeager Group. Theo doesnât have any chance left to rebuild his company. If Iâm not mistaken, Theo Yeager will begin to get chummy with you.â
âI wonât accept it,â Violet said nonchalantly, âI donât want to see him ever again.â
âThatâs why I said you donât like to play games.â
âWhatâs the point of getting chummy with me?â Violet was very disdainful. âDoes he think Iâll accept that he had been absent from my life for twenty years? Will a single apology from him make the hurt he caused my mother disappear? Iâll never forgive him for as long as I live!â
Jack merely smiled knowingly.
âWhy are you smiling?â Violet gave him an unhappy look. âYouâre not in my shoes, you donât understand how I feel! Donât tell me to be the bigger person!â
âIâm not telling you to be the bigger person.â Jack smiled gently as he crossed his legs in a sophisticated manner. âBut if I were you, I would accept his goodwill.â
Violet turned to look at him bemusedly. âTell me why.â
Seeing that she was willing to hear him out, Jack continued, âIf it were me, I would move in with the Yeagers and take the opportunity to torment the mother-daughter duo. Didnât they rob you of everything you had? Reclaim it bit by bit.â
âMother-daughter duo?â The main point caught Violetâs ears. âIsnât Beryl dead?â
Jackâs lips curved up in the faintest of smirks. âSheâs very much alive.â
Violet was shocked. âAlive? How do you know?â
âHow I know, is not the main point,â Jack smiled and turned slightly to look at her. âIâm more curious about just how foolish she is. There are way too many women in this world who want to crawl into my bed but sheâs not willing to marry me, to the point of faking a car accident. All that results in this mess the Yeagers are in now.â
âDonât overestimate your own attractiveness,â Violet retorted. âPeople like you think youâre all that. You lose yourself very easily.â
Nevertheless, Jack was not angry at all. In fact, his expression was gentle. âYou seem to have digressed.â
Violet pondered and turned to ask him, âDo you know Theo well?â
âI hear things about him.â
âDo you think heâll try to get friendly with me? Heâll regret what he did? Apologize?â Violetâs interest was suddenly piqued.
âYes,â Jack affirmed confidently.
Violetâs face changed. âI wonât soften my heart. People like him deserve to be punished for what they did! Whatâs the point of being friendly with me? He canât get anything from me anyway.â
She hugged a cu shion and resumed watching the mouse and cat show with a serious look on her face.
Jack did not agree with her, however. She had a close bond with his grandfather. Theo could get Senior Yancey to spare him if he earned Violetâs favor.
After a while, Violet spoke, âI think you should thank me, really. Think about it. If you had married Beryl, your good name and reputation would have been ruined. Her motherâs a homewrecker, and the apple never falls far from the tree.â
âDo you know them well?â Jack asked.
Violet shook her head. âI donât, Iâve never met them.â
âYou need to know yourself as well as your enemy if you want to win a war. Let me give you some information.â Jack

seemed to become a different person, going into the topic with her unexpectedly. âYvette West hasnât obtained any assets for herself at all throughout all these years, and neither has she upskilled herself in any way. Sheâs a very shallow woman who thinks that she can win menâs hearts by maintaining her physical looks. So all she does is invest in her skincare. She does look younger than other women her age but thatâs all she is, eye candy without many inner qualities.â
âWhat about Beryl)â Violet was interested in her.
âWhat can you expect of her character when her mother is a trophy wife?â Jack said, âTheo has always been busy with work all these years so he doesnât care much about his family. He basically lets them do as they please. Beryl grew up watching and listening to everything Yvette does so thereâs not much between her ears.â
âTorment them? So we can tear them into shreds as soon as possible?â Suddenly, Violet was delighted.
She no longer wanted to leave!
