Chapter 16
Violet sat up straight and turned to look at that iceberg-like face. He was expressionless.
He could fight very well, but his face was as arrogant as Jackâs. There was no wonder that they were master and se rvant.
Michael was very calm although he could sense where she was looking. He kept his sight directed to the front without betraying any hint of emotion and did not plan to speak.
Violet looked away sullenly after a while.
That was before she suddenly jolted up. âWhere are you bringing me?â She looked out the window.
Were they going back?
Nobody answered her.
âHey!â She yelled, sensing something was amiss. âStop the car!â
This was the way to the mansion!
She frowned and shouted, âStop the car! Let me out! I donât want to see him! Stop the car! Are you listening to me?!â
She did not want him to see her in this pitiful state.
The chauffeur turned to glance at Michael. Naturally, he dared not stop the car without the masterâs orders.
Violet began to panic. She turned to glare at Michael. âHey, get him to stop the car, wonât you?!â
Michaelâs eyes met with hers.
âThank you very much for saving me!â she said, âYou can let me down now! I donât want to see Jack! I donât wish to see him!â
Violet knew he was in charge here. How could she move him when he was as hard as an iceberg? He was as cold as Jack Yancey!
Unemotionally, Michael looked at her from the corner of his eyes and spoke, âDo you have a death wish? How did they know where you would be dropped off?â
66 âThere is only one possibility. Weâve been followed from the moment we departed. Thereâs more than one ambush along our trip.â He came to an immediate conclusion.
â..â Violet quietened down after hearing what he said. She was only half convinced. âHow do you know?â
âBelieve what you will.â
Violet glared at him and continued doing so for a full minute.
This man did not seem capable of expressing any emotion. All he did was blink and sit as still as a log.
Was he a robot?
Violet bit her lip and felt as deflated as a burst balloon. All she could do was accept her misfortuneâ¦
The only place she could go if she wanted to survive, was his.
At the moment, lights were shining brightly from the mansion at Goldbay Estate.
Jack sat alone with his whiskey on his custom-designed couch, thinking back on the incidents that had happened over the past hour.
He frowned as he thought to himself, âIs this destiny?â
An urgent matter at the company earlier today had caused him to depart ten minutes later than he had planned.
He had gotten stuck in a traffic jam on the way to fetch her.
After fetching her, they had encountered those brutes and got entangled in a fight. All of that had resulted in him being unable to send her off before the sunset, which led to her learning about his secret.
Everything felt too coincidental, as though it had been predestined.
His phone rang, disrupting his thoughts.
Jack took up the phone and glanced at the caller ID before answering. âIli, grandpa.â
âWhereâs Violet? Senior Yanceyâs kind voice said. âCould you pass the phone to her? I have something to tell her.â
Why was he talking about her again? Jack felt unhappy but he did not show it. âShe has gone home,â
he said calmly.

Chapter 16
âOh? Home? Are you done with dinner so soon?â His grandfather sounded crestfallen. âWhy didnât she stay to chat? Did you two go your separate ways right after dinner?â
âWhat did you think? What would we talk about? Weâre not close.â Jack smiled. âWhy are you asking for her?â He was curious about this old manâs intentions.
Senior Yancey chuckled. âI heard that the cherry blossoms are blooming so I want her to come and see them with me. Iâll call her.â
âGrandfather, youâ¦â
âItâs okay if sheâs not there. Iâm hanging up.â
Senior Yancey hurriedly ended the call before Jack could say anything.
After setting his phone down, Jack pondered upon his grandfatherâs intentions. Understanding gradually dawned upon him. He raised his chin and downed the liquor in his glass in one shot.
At that moment, two headlights shone into the house from the courtyard.
However, Jack did not notice anything at all. Everything outside was pitch black to him.
The car stopped in the vast front yard.
A car door opened. Michael stepped out.
The young lady in the car could not bring herself to come out. Michael watched her patiently.
Time stilled.
Violet was extremely reluctant to see him in such a state. This was humiliating! She was not brave enough for this. Jack would be secretly delighted to see her in such disgrace!
