Chapter 11 of 14

Chapter #11

Dear Jodi

Even though it hurts I’m still able to bare the pain, I simply think about you. About your wonderful lips tightly pressed against mine. About your voice when you sing me your sweet lullabies.

I think about you when his fist hits my body and it’s suddenly worth it. If I can spend just 10 minutes with you it’s worth it.

You’re worth it…

Love, Karla Lewis.

“We have rules in this house! I expect you to f*cking follow them!” My ears are ringing, he’s already given me a hard smack against the head and is now inches away from my ear screaming at me.

“I don’t see why you’re always such an ungrateful piece of sh*t. We took you in when no one else wanted you. Not even your real parents wanted you and yet we gave you a home.” He slams his fist against my stomach, causing me to bend over but i*m quickly dragged back up by his strong hand.

“THIS is how you repay us? By sneaking out at night?!!” I’m pushed to the floor, feeling my head hit against the hard wood.

He doesn’t leave like he usually does. Instead he just stares at me, giving me a few kicks every now and then.

“F*cking waste of human being….” He says before kicking me one final time in the back, then he leaves.

I manage to get to my bedroom, knowing there they won’t mind if I make a mess cause it’s mine to clean.

Blood is dripping from my nose and a few wounds that has been made on my body. I can hardly stand cause of the pain in my back. I feel like throwing up but before anything happens blood comes out of my mouth with a cough.

“Damn…” I whisper, if I go out like this they’ll laugh and tell me how weak I am.

I get into other clothes, putting the now bloody ones into a bag. My next thought is to call Jodi, but then I remembered this was the day she and her husband were moving a few things to their new house. When that thought hit me I finally broke down.

I always tried to cry silently, since my father hated tears I didn’t want to feed up to his anger. Specially not now.

Everything would have worked out fine, if not my brother had barged into my room at that point.

“Hey cry baby!” The door slammed behind him, causing a photo frame at my bookshelf to fall over.

When I tried to ask him to leave I was greeted with a smack on my cheek.

“Nah, don’t think so.” He said and sat down next to me, I was terrified of what he would do.

He was smiling and behaving in a quite strange way.

“We don’t like tears here.” He said after staring at me for what had felt like hours.

Then with a smile I once again received a fist blow to my stomach, this time it was too much. Everything turned black and suddenly I felt no more pain.

“Where is she?! I need to see her!! Just please let me through I want to see her!!!” The voice sounded so distant, but so familiar.

I tried to slowly open my eyes but everything was so blurry. First I thought I was dead, everything around me was white. The walls, the sheets I was laying under, the curtains by the window. Hell even the ceiling was painted white.

“Please you don’t understand! I love her!” The voice was clearer now as well as my sight.

That’s when it finally hit me, I was in a hospital room. At least this was similar to what they looked like in movies. The voice was Jodi’s, I would recognize it anywhere. I started feeling really tired again, this was too much to handle now. I leaned back and closed my eyes, hoping to get some rest.

Suddenly the door opened and someone stormed into the room, sitting down on the chair next to me. I felt her soft hand grab a hold of mine. The footsteps of another person slowly came into the room.

“She’s basically been asleep for the last days, it’s not a coma though, she has been awake a few times but I don’t think she even knows it herself.” It was a male voice, quite deep but also comforting.

“Is… Is she okay?” There was that sweet voice I loved so much.

“She will be, there were some internal bleedings but she came in right in time so they are no longer a problem. She also had several fresh burn marks on her back, we suspect they are from cigarettes that has been put out on her body.” He paused for a while, as if he knew I was awake and listening.

“Karla, sweetie you poor thing…” Jodi whispered, her grip on my hand tightening somewhat.

“Mrs. Parker, do you know if she has suffered any similar abuse before?”

“I think so, at least I know she recently got beaten up quite badly.” Jodi’s voice was shaky, like she was on the edge of crying.

“I see, I will leave you alone now. If there’s anything press the button beside the bed and a nurse will come.” With that he left the room, closing the door behind him as he did so.

I felt Jodi bend down, resting her head against my arm. The cloth slowly started getting wetter and I realized that she now was crying. She still held my hand and when I opened my eyes for the second time that day I gave it a small squeeze. She looked up, her eyes were red from crying.

“Hey…” My voice sounded like sandpaper, still it managed to put a smile on her face.

“Hey” She replied, her voice being shaky.

She handed me a glass of water before letting me speak again.

“You came.” I said, knowing the smile I gave her made me look even more tired.

“Of course…I love you.” The last part she whispered, yet loud enough for me to hear it.

“I love you too.”

We sat like that, holding hands and smiling like some couple in a teenage movie. She loved me, Jodi loved me.
