Chapter 6 Seeing that expression, Astrid felt a pang of sadness. But when she looked up at the stoneâfaced man next to her, she swallowed her words. âThank youâ Elioâs voice was ley, and even though it was only a word of gratitude, it still gave Astrid a jolt.
Astrid quickly shook her head, âNo need.â
This guy was too harsh No wonder the kid didnât want to go with him Ello bent down to lift Roman into his arms, then turned to leave. He looked as cold as ever.
Roman leaned on Elioâs shoulder, looking back at her His tears fell, and watching them, Astrid felt like sheâd just handed a lamb over to a wolf. Her guilt was intense Astrid closed the door, her phone was buzzing nonâstop. Looking at it, she saw a string of memes from her dad, ending with a message, [âIâm thinking of retiring. When are you coming back to take over the company?â]
Astrid replied with a meme that read, [âCanât hear you, too windy.â]
Closing the chat Astrid scrolled through her gallery to find a group photo from a company event. She circled Simonâs face, then sent it to Chad, [âFind someone to teach this guy a lesson.â]
Chad responded with an emoji, [âChief, what did he do?â]
Astrid. Just go, donât ask so many questions.â]
Chad [Alright, Iâm on itâ]
She had always thought she could hold her liquor, so she drank heavily tohight. Gracie was on her period and couldnât drink, so Astrid had ended up drinking way too much. Otherwise, she wouldnât have been scared of Simonâs bodyguards.
She stretched and was about to go to sleep when her phone rang again. The screen displayed a name, Dr. Conrad. Just the sight of the name gave Astrid a headache. She rubbed her temples and picked up the call, âWhat now? Over the line, laughter rang out âAstrid, I need a favor. Youâd help me, wouldnât you?â
Astrid was pokerâfaced. âDr. Conrad, how many times have you called me this month? Canât you give it a rest?â
Her mentor was a real headache. When she had just been taken in by her biological father, he hired his old friend to take care of her health due to her weak constitution. Unexpectedly, the old man saw her talent for medicine and took her on as his apprentice.
The old man had no children and treated her like his own daughter, passing on all his medical knowledge to her. But, his countless exâgirlfriends from around the world never stopped causing her trouble.
Dr. Conrad tried to entice her when she didnât respond, âAstrid, the person who needs your help this time is my first love. But Iâm currently on a world tour and really canât make It âFirst love?â Astrid was disgusted. âThe person you asked me to save last time was also your first love. Just how many âfirst loves do you have?â
âUh... Dr. Conrad paused for a few seconds. âThe last one was my first love in middle school. This one is from high school.â
First love from middle school and high school?
Astrid wasnât interested in the old manâs life story and was about to hang up when he said, âIâve already promised them Iâd go save her, and I even used your name, âAster the Savior.â Everyone in the medical field, knows that when Aster makes a promise, she keeps it. If you donât go, itâll ruin your reputation!â
â
Astrid was livid, âYou old coot!â
Dr. Conrad chuckled triumphantly, âHahaha, Astrid, I love you. Mwah!â,
