Chapter 14
âLibrin?â the voice said again. Librin wiped his eyes, âShitâ¦â He pushed off from the ground, gaining his balance. He needed to get his story straight quickly. Failure to do so would likely lead to his death. He quickly looked up and met the mysterious voice's gaze. The instant he met her eyes, he knew who it was, Airia. She was an Air Elemental, the second of three, including Librin. As compared to the other female Elementals, she was considerably tall. Yet as Librin looked up at her, she was irregularly tall. He closed his eyes, peering through the air at himself and her, realising he was the irregular one. He seemed to have maintained the height and certain characteristics of Anya after his death. His thoughts were cut off as Airia spoke, âLibrin, are you alright?â The tears that covered his face were gone, but his eyes told the story in clear detail. âNo. No, Iâm not,â his voice catching in his throat as he spoke. She gazed at him, a clear look of concern on her face. âDo you know what has happened already? What has come of the world?â her voice choking as well. âYes, I was down there when it happened,â his voice hardening as he spoke. An aching silence fell over them for a moment. Her voice turned to one of confusion, âIs that not what you are weeping for? What else could be bothering you than this?â Librin closed his eyes. He was unsure of what to say. âLibrin, what is going on? Why are you so different in appearance? You havenât looked any different in thousands of years.â Librin averted his gaze, âIt isnât my choice. I-â His voice started shaking. âI was attacked by another Elementalâ¦â The cracks in his facade began to fall. Airiaâs face turned to one of shock and rage. âWhat?! What happened?! Who did this?!â the anger in her voice rising. Librinâs hands and body began to shake, but he maintained his composure. She shook her head, âIâm so sorry, Librin. I- I wouldâve never sent you down there had I known. Can you tell me what happened? You need to tell the others, but if itâs too difficult, you can just tell me. It might be easier maybe?â Librin closed his eyes, âIt was Nyx. She⦠She found me in Greece. I was only 14⦠We were on a class trip. She trapped us. I-I didnât know who she was. I couldnât remember. She.. She lined us up. Demanded I come out. No one knew what was going on. She⦠She killed them all. My first love⦠Killed in front of my eyes!â His eyes began to flicker the same hollow gold they had just earlier. Cracks began forming under his feet, giving way as he fell to his knees. âItâs all my fault. Sheâs dead. I loved her! I couldnât save her! AND ITâS HER FAULT,â a dark aura began to swirl around him. Grief replaced itself with rage. The ground and walls around him shuddered under the force. Airia slowly knelt and pulled him into a tight embrace. The rage that had just formed slipped back into grief. He cried into her shoulder; memories of Adeline played in his head. He had never cried before. Never shown grief. But now they would see what a broken man truly was.
