âWell, thatâs certainly the gist of it,â Jacob mused, his brow furrowing. âHow about bringing Cherry over soon? If we hypnotize her, her memory should fully recover within a couple of weeks.â
âHypnosis?â Damien scoffed, shaking his head. âNo.â Sebastianâs words had already completely shattered Cheriseâs trust in Damien. Proposing hypnosis now would only confirm her suspicions that he was erasing her memory once more, just as Sebastian had suggested. Not only would she reject the idea, but it would also deepen her distrust of him. âLetâs explore other options,â Damien suggested.
âThen we might have to consider medication.â Jacob suggested, his lips pouting. âBut given your perspective, medication probably wonât be effective either, right?â
âAbsolutely not, Damien responded, his gaze dropping to the pen he idly twirled between his fingers. Letting out a sigh, he continued, âAre there any other options we could explore?â
âIn my opinion,â Lennon chimed in, taking a deep breath, âyou should just take Cherry for hypnosis. Whether itâs medication or hypnosis, itâs worth a shot if it helps her regain her memory! Plus, she already sees you as an adversary. Why fret? Once she recalls everything, sheâll understand!â
Do you think I havenât thought about that?â Damien narrowed his eyes, shooting a cold glare at Lennon. âItâs just that... though Jake mentioned that these methods are viable suggestions from experts, Damien continued, his gaze slightly frosty. âNo one can guarantee with certainty that hypnosis or medication will fully trigger her memory.â
âIf we repeatedly try hypnosis or medication to no avail, sheâll eventually leave me,â he continued, his eyes shutting briefly. âI canât bear to lose her again.â
The weight of Damienâs words hung heavy in the room, immediately silencing the others. Damien and Cherise had endured countless trials together. Jacob and Lennon were familiar with the challenges the couple had faced.
If Damien pushes for hypnosis or medication, itâll only drive Cherise further away. Their thoughts echoed silently in the somber atmosphere of the room. Sheâll always question and resent him, especially with Sebastian lurking in the shadows. If she leaves this time, it might be permanent. And what if her memories donât return?
âThen we have no choice but to... revisit the past. Try to trigger some of Cheriseâs latent memories and assist her in recalling them,â Jacob sighed heavily. âWe should start with the people Cherise still. remembers.â
Leaning over to scrutinize the data, he wrinkled his brow lightly. Iâve arranged for individuals to gather information about Cheriseâs connections in Shawâs village, including her classmates and acquaintances from school, as well as those she encountered in Lermille later on in life.â
âThis task is quite immense. If it werenât for your influence, Damien, I might have struggled to gather everyoneâs photos within a week,â Jacob admitted with a wry smile. âIâve arranged for Lucy to visit tomorrow and show Cherise the photos. Surely, there are gaps in her memories of the past two decades.â
Damien nodded in agreement. âIt seems like our most viable option.â
As Damien and Jacob conversed carnestly, Lennon remained fixated on the computer screen, lost in thought. His eyes widened abruptly. âJake, did you mention contacting Lucy?â
Caught off guard, Jacobâs guilty expression was evident as he quickly diverted his gaze. âUm, well...â
âIs Lucy going to Damienâs place tomorrow to see Cherise?â Lennon sought clarification.
