CHAPTER 4: A BOND THAT CANNOT BE BROKEN
Alessandro waited for his brother all day, but he never arrived, he wondered if something had happened to him or if he had not received his letter.
When he entered his room, he saw April on the balcony. He approached her, hugged her from behind and asked.
âWhat are you doing up at this hour?â
âI was waiting for you, I didnât want to go to sleep without seeing you.â
âIâm sorry, I couldnât have dinner with you in the end, Gabriel filled me with work and didnât let me go until now.â
April turned around, she wanted to see his face, she really needed it.
âYou donât have to apologize for that, youâre the king, you have a kingdom to run, I know thatâs not easy.â
âThank you for your understanding.â
âYou donât have to thank me.â
Alessandro caressed her cheek gently and gave her a soft kiss on the lips.
âI wish I had more time to be with you, donât you feel the same way?
â âYes, I feel exactly the same, I wish I could be with you every minute and every moment of my life, but we have obligations and duties to fulfill, so Iâll be reasonable and not ask for what you canât give me.
âI hate that.â
âWhat thing?â
âI hate not being able to give you everything you ask me for.â
âEvery day you give me more than I ever dreamed of, more than I ever imagined.â
âStill, sometimes I feel like itâs not enough.â âGet those thoughts out of your mind, because it is.â
Alessandro hugged her, buried his head in her collarbone breathing in her body odor and said. âIâll miss you so much.â
âIâm going to miss you too.â
âDo you know how long youâll be gone?â
âMaybe two days or three, I donât know.â
âCome back soon, otherwise Iâll come looking for you.â
âYou wonât have to, Iâll be eager to get back, besides you must take care of our daughter in my absence, protect her.â
âYou donât even have to ask for that, Iâll take good care of her.â
âCassian hasnât arrived yet?â
âNo and that has me worried.â
âI hope sheâs okay and arrives soon.â
The clock chimed, announcing that it was already past midnight, Alessandro said.
âItâs late, today has been a long day, we better rest.â
âYes, that will be the best.â
They both went to bed, Alessandro put his arms around Abril, she could hear his heartbeat, his breathing, that made her calmer, because although she didnât show it, having to leave her family made her very nervous and anxious, she was afraid of what would happen to them in her absence.
âLessan.â
âWhatâs wrong?â
âTake care of Lissana.â
âAby, I will take good care of our daughter, besides, you will be gone for a short time, we will be here waiting for you.â
âYes, you are right.â
Abril buried her face in his chest and said. âI hate to be separated from you.â
âI feel the same way and if it werenât for Lissana, I would go with you. Aby, is something wrong?â
âNo, itâs just that my sister is still out there and we donât know when she will come to attack us.â
Alessandro sighed deeply and said.
âThatâs true, but if she hasnât made any movement during all this time, I doubt she will now, so donât worry.â
âI hope so.â
Cassian had to stop to rest at an inn since Maya had started to feel nauseous from the rattling of the carriage.
He put a cold cloth on her forehead to try to relieve her discomfort a little.
âAre you better?
â âYes, and Iâm sorry, Iâm just delaying you.â
âDonât worry about it, the important thing is that youâre okay.â
âThatâs why I prefer the teleportation scrolls.â
âI know, but I thought the scrolls would be very tiring in your condition, apparently I was also wrong about the carriage, now because of me youâve become even sicker.â
Maya took Cassianâs hand and said.
âThis is not your fault.â
âYouâll be better soon, April will make you better.â
âYes, I hope so.â
Cassian gave her a soft kiss on the forehead and said. âThat will be it, hold on a little longer, youâll be fine soon.â
That night Cassian stayed up taking care of Maya, the next day she was a little better, so they resumed their journey. When they arrived at the palace, Cassian asked where April was, he wanted her to help Maya since she didnât look well.
One of the maids guided them to the greenhouse where she was. Cassian arrived with Maya collapsed in his arms, April was very surprised when she saw them, especially because Maya didnât seem to be very well. She handed the baby to one of the maids and hurried towards them. âWhatâs wrong with Maya?â
âI donât know, she hasnât been feeling very well for a while, the trip here only worsened her health, can you help her?â
âOf course.â
April took Mayaâs hand and infused her magic into it. Maya regained consciousness and upon seeing April said to her.
âHello Aby.â
âHow are you?â
âMuch better.â
âI think it would be best to take her to a room to rest.â
âMaya, are you really okay?â
Cassian asked, very worried and with some anxiety in his voice.
Maya touched his cheek with her still cold hand and said.
âYes Cassian, Iâm fine now, donât worry.â
Cassian held her against his chest and said.
âThank God.â
Cassian hugged Maya for a while as if he was afraid of losing her.
April put her hand on his shoulder and said.
âCassian, Maya needs to rest.â
âYes.â
Cassian took Maya to her room, although she was always given that room. He gently placed her on the bed and said. âDo you want something?â
âSome water, Iâm thirsty.â
Cassian poured a glass of water, helped her up and gave her the water to drink, when Maya finished she laughed.
âSometimes you exaggerate a little, I can drink a glass of water on my own.â
âI know, but when I see you like this, I just want to take care of you.â
âCassian, Iâm fine.â
âThen why do you still look weak?â
âIâm just still a little dizzy from the carriage, if I rest a little Iâll be as good as new, so why donât you go see your brother while I sleep, he must be waiting for you.â
âI donât want to leave you alone.â
âMaybe Iâll sleep all morning, it doesnât matter if you stay, so donât worry about me and go see why Iâll call your brother for you.â
âOkay, I wonât be long.â
Maya yawned and replied. âTake your time, Iâll sleep for a while.â
Cassian kissed her on the forehead and said.
âI wonât be long, if you feel bad donât hesitate to call a maid.â
âOkay, now go.â
As Cassian left the room, the little fairy who had been following her suddenly appeared, flew around her and said.
âYou look very bad and itâs not because of the carriage ride, if you donât go back to fairyland you will die.â
âCould you please stop reminding me that I will die?
â âI do this so you wonât forget.â
âWell, I donât need you to remind me.â
âI will keep reminding you until you decide to go back or die.â
âSo I will have a little death fairy speaking in my ear every day.â
âMy mission is not to announce your death, it is to make you understand that you must return home.â
âThat is not my home, it never has been.â
âIt is from the moment you swore loyalty to the fairy queen, you are tied to the land of the fairies just like the queen and you know it, the bond that unites you cannot be broken, your whole being is telling you so, it is screaming at you and it will continue to be that way until you decide to return.â
