It was the fourth night after the wedding, and Save was lounging on the couch in the living room, absently scrolling through his phone. Auau was in the next room, probably finishing some paperwork or checking in with patients, Save hadn't asked. He was used to the quiet now, the soft thrum of Auau's presence always lingering nearby.
Save's phone buzzed suddenly, interrupting his thoughts. He looked down at the screen to see his brother, Por's name flashing.
With a sigh, Save answered. "Yeah?"
"Save," Por's voice came through, sounding unusually serious. "I need to ask you something."
Save sat up, his brow furrowing. "What's going on?"
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, and then Por's voice dropped to a hushed whisper. "You and Auau... have you guys, you know... done that yet?"
Save froze, a surge of embarrassment flooding his chest. He could practically hear the teasing smirk on Por's face.
"Done what?" Save asked, his voice far too defensive for his own liking.
"You know," Por continued, lowering his voice even further. "The thing married couples do. Have you... uh... consummated the marriage yet?"
Save choked on his own breath, his face turning crimson. "What the hell, Por?!"
"Just asking!" Por shot back, but Save could tell he was grinning. "I'm just making sure you're not going to end up being one of those married couples who just... pretends to be married."
Save could feel his face burning now. "As much as i hate to say this, we're not pretending to be married! We just force to be" he snapped, the words rushing out before he could stop them. "And we're fine, okay? Stop being weird."
"You know I'm just messing with you, right?" Por teased, his tone light and casual. "But seriously, if you haven't yet, you probably should. It's kind of an important part of being married."
Save flopped back onto the couch, groaning. "I swear, if you call me again to talk about this, I'm going to throw my phone out the window."
"Fine, fine, I'll drop it," Por chuckled. "But seriously, I'm happy for you, bro. I'm just making sure everything's going well."
Save sighed deeply, trying to calm the racing thoughts in his head. "Yeah, everything's fine." He paused, the tension in his chest easing just a little. "We're doing alright."
Por's voice softened, just a little. "Good. Take care of yourself, Save. And, uh, don't be afraid to talk to me if you ever need anything."
Save was quiet for a moment. He wasn't sure how to respond at first, but eventually, he muttered, "Thanks, Por. I'll... keep that in mind."
"Alright. Talk later, little bro."
As the call ended, Save let out a long breath, glancing down at his phone in mild disbelief. That was a disaster.
He glanced toward the hallway again, half-expecting Auau to walk in at any moment. Did he hear me?
The silence stretched for a moment before Auau appeared, walking toward the living room with a smile on his face. "Hey, everything okay?"
Save quickly shoved his phone aside, trying his best to act normal, though his cheeks were still bright red. "Yeah, everything's fine," he muttered, his voice sounding a little too strained.
Auau raised an eyebrow, sensing something was off. "Are you sure? You're looking a little weird."
Save rolled his eyes, trying to mask his embarrassment. "It's nothing. Just family stuff."
Auau's expression softened, his concern still visible but not pushing any further. "Okay, if you say so."
For a moment, they just stood there, the silence settling between them. Save wanted to change the subject, anything to move away from the awkward conversation with Por.
"So..." Save started, his voice a little more casual than before. "What are we doing tonight?"
Auau smiled knowingly, his eyes twinkling. "I was thinking about making dinner, but you've already got something planned, right?"
Save froze, eyes widening. "Wait, what do you mean?"
Auau just chuckled. "Well, you've got a lot of experience with eggs now, right?"
Save groaned, slumping further into the couch. "I'm not cooking tonight."
"Fair enough," Auau said, his smile never wavering. "I guess I'll handle it then. You just relax."
The awkwardness from the conversation with Por still lingered in Save's chest, but he was doing his best to push it aside. It had been a little too personal, a little too uncomfortable.
Auau, was in the kitchen, chopping vegetables with a relaxed focus, clearly not bothered by anything. Save tried to shake off the tension and figured the best way to distract himself was to offer some help.
He stood up and walked toward the kitchen, trying to appear casual. "Need help with anything?" Save asked, leaning against the doorframe.
Auau glanced over, a grin tugging at the corner of his lips. "Sure, you can help. Grab those onions," he said, pointing to the chopping board, his voice light. "And if you really want to help, you could grab the garlic, too."
Save rolled his eyes but stepped into the kitchen, grabbing the onions. As he started slicing them, he tried to distract himself from the strange feeling.
The older man moved around the kitchen with ease, his presence as steady and comfortable as always. As he reached for a pot, his arm brushed against Save's, and the sudden closeness made Save's heart skip a beat.
He tried to ignore it, but Auau wasn't making it easy.
"Careful with that knife," Auau teased lightly, stepping behind Save to reach for a spice jar. His hand brushed across Save's back in what seemed like an accidental gesture.
Save tensed, and his cheeks flushed. "I know how to use a knife, thanks."
"Mm," Auau hummed, leaning in a little closer to get a better look at the onions Save was chopping. The subtle warmth of Auau's body just behind him made Save's pulse race. "I've got to say, I'm impressed you're actually helping. Didn't think I'd see the day you'd cook more than just eggs."
Save swallowed, trying not to think too much about how close they were. "I'm just helping out," he muttered, wishing he could sound a little less flustered.
Auau chuckled softly, clearly enjoying this much more than Save was comfortable with. He moved around Save, brushing past him again, this time deliberately making the contact last just a second longer. "Well, if you're going to be my assistant, I'll need to make sure you're properly trained," Auau said, his voice low and teasing.
Save frowned, his hands gripping the onion a little tighter. "I'm not your assistant."
Just as Save reached for the soy sauce on the shelf, Auau's hand landed lightly on Save's back, guiding him, his fingers grazing the fabric of Save's shirt.
Save's breath hitched, and he quickly turned to look at Auau, his face now a deep shade of red. "Could you not do that?"
Auau didn't seem to be bothered at all. Instead, he leaned in slightly, his face only a few inches away from Save's. Voice still teasing, "You looked a little tense. Maybe you need a break."
Save swallowed hard. "I'm fine," he muttered quickly, avoiding Auau's gaze as Save pulled the soy sauce down.
Auau grinned, stepping back a little, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Sure you are. Just making sure you don't get too stressed. It's important to relax, right?"
Save couldn't hold back a small, defeated sigh. "Yeah, okay, whatever. Just get back to cooking."
But Auau wasn't done yet. As Save turned to place the soy sauce on the counter, Auau moved closer again, this time resting his arm casually over Save's shoulder as he reached for a pan. The touch was light but deliberate, and Save couldn't stop the way his heart skipped at the intimacy of it.
"See? Much better when we work together," Auau said with a grin. He leaned in, breath warm against Save's ear. "No more tension."
Save tensed again, his skin flushing under the closeness. "You're annoying," he muttered, even though part of him couldn't deny the way his heart was racing.
Auau only laughed softly, pulling back and finally letting Save have a little breathing room. "Alright, alright. But you're going to have to get used to it."
Save could only rolled his eyes, still flustered but trying to act like it was nothing. "whatever."
Even though he tried to play it cool, a little part of him couldn't ignore how much he liked the closeness.
