Chapter 19: Blossoms of Power
Three months had passed since Uchiha Ren returned to Konoha and confirmed his relationship with Mikoto. The bloody trails of war had momentarily loosened their grip on him, allowing peace and love to bloom amidst the still-uncertain future. In this time, Ren had not only deepened his bond with Mikoto but had also made immense progress in his cultivation journeyâunseen by the world, yet monumentally transformative.
When Ren broke through Stage 1âGene Seed Formation Realmâthe evolution of his Uchiha bloodline had changed the rules. He bypassed the need for an external Gene Essence Crystal, forming his gene seed directly through bloodline activation. The crimson tides of Uchiha power surged in him, allowing his seed to root itself into the very core of his being.
From that moment, his body began evolving, sharpening all five senses and boosting his agility and reaction speeds to supernatural levels. At the same time, his control over the bodyâs micro-responses reached a masterful stage. But it didnât stop there.
The incident that solidified his next leap came on a stormy evening, during a minor mission. Mikoto had been injured, her shoulder cut open protecting a genin squad. The sight of her blood caused something in Ren to snap. The primal surge of emotion ignited his Sharingan once again, evolving it into the Two-Tomoe Sharingan.
From there, he was swiftly deployed to the western front. Amidst a life-and-death battle against elite assassins from the Kumo Country, Ren was pushed past his limits. It was there, at the edge of death, he entered Stage 2: Mortal Genesis Stage.
Fusing his sharingan traits into his gene structure, he triggered the formation of the second-level structureâthe Gene Root System. This system formed a network of micro-gene channels that could circulate gene energy far more efficiently than chakra meridians.
It was then he awakened his first unique gene techniqueâone that suited his instinctual style, inherited talent, and bloodline heritage:
1. Kagetsu no Kage (Shadow of the Moonflower) â A mid-range shadow clone-based illusion-and-slash technique.
* Function: Upon activation, Ren splits into three fading clones made of condensed gene light and visual illusion.
* Each clone delivers a swift afterimage blade strike in a different direction.

* The opponent sees only the illusionary flashes, with the real Ren hidden among them.
* Designed for ambush, confusion, or sudden counters.
2. VOID PULSE FANG (KŪMAI GA)
* Type: Offensive / Pulse Blade Technique
* Effect: Condenses sharp gene energy into a vibrating edge over Renâs blade or hand, which emits high-frequency pulses capable of phasing slightly into solid matter before erupting outward. It can bypass light armor and cause internal damage, making it highly effective against defensive-type opponents.
* Secondary Effect: The pulse weakens the enemyâs nervous response momentarily, making them slower to react.
* Drawback: It requires focus and burns through gene energy quickly if spammed.
Though not overpowered, it was precise, fast, and perfect for surgical strikes. Ren tested it only once in the fieldâkilling a Thunder Jonin in a single decisive counter. After that, he never used it again, choosing silence over flash.
Now, three months later, Ren stood at the peak of Stage 2. The Gene Energy Network within him had fully matured. His speed and physical reaction time surpassed even most elite jÅnin. Chakra was still necessary for ninjutsu, but gene energy became his primary power base.
He calculated calmly: defeating a typical jÅnin was now within reach, and perhaps even more.
Yet, a bottleneck loomed.
To step into Stage 3, Ren knew he would need another extreme encounterâa life-and-death trial that forced further evolution. But until then, he chose patience.
Despite his quiet intensity, Renâs days were filled with warmth. Mikoto had been his light in these months, keeping him grounded and human.
Each morning began with walks along the Uchiha district, the two of them wrapped in light conversation.
âYou still havenât beaten me in a duel,â Mikoto smirked, casually tossing an apple up and down.
âI let you win,â he replied with a straight face.
âLiar.â
He leaned in. âProve me wrong.â
Her cheeks pinked slightly. âI will. Donât regret it later.â
Later that afternoon, they practiced together. Mikoto, ever the tsundere, gave scolding comments every time he slowed down or praised her.
âIâm not some delicate flower!â she snapped as she parried his strike.
âI know. Youâre a very dangerous flower.â
âIdiotâ¦!â she muttered, face red.
They would often sit under the cherry tree in the eveningâthe same one where she once waited for him after his return. She always wore her red kimono on those nights.
One evening, as moonlight shimmered through petals, Mikoto suddenly leaned closer.
âRen⦠I want you to kiss me. Just once, okay?â
He didnât speakâhe cupped her cheek and brought his lips to hers in a gentle, sincere kiss. Time paused.
âD-Donât get the wrong idea,â she whispered after. âItâs not like I like you that muchâ¦â
He smiled. âThen Iâll just keep proving it to you.â
Their hands intertwined once more.

Ren knew his peace wouldnât last forever. The war hadnât ended. He still had a destiny to chase and limits to shatter.
But for now, under cherry blossoms and stolen kisses, he let himself be human.
