Chapter 8: Twisted Schemes

Determined to silence the whispers and accusations once and for all, I agree to take another DNA test. I know it’s unnecessary—I’m certain Daniel is the father—but proving it beyond doubt is the only way to put this nightmare to rest. I make an appointment at a reputable lab, accompanied by Ethan for support.

The day of the test is tense. Ethan holds my hand as we wait for the results, offering comforting words and reassuring smiles. The test is straightforward, and I feel a sense of relief as we leave the lab, confident that the truth will finally vindicate me.

But unbeknownst to me, Jessica has other plans. She bribes the lab technician to alter the results, making it look like her husband is the father of my baby. When the falsified results come back, I’m devastated.

“CPS has been notified about Alice’s behavior and the recent DNA test results. They’ve confirmed that she is an unfit mother, and they will be taking the baby away. We are relieved that the child will be placed in a safer environment.”

Their words are another blow, and I feel the walls closing in around me. The situation seems hopeless, but Ethan’s unwavering support keeps me grounded. He reassures me that we’ll find a way to expose the truth and protect my baby.

At a work party, things take an unexpected turn. One of my colleague’s boyfriends, a charming man named Marcus, starts flirting with me. I try to politely deflect his advances, but he’s persistent.

Ethan notices and quickly steps in, placing a protective arm around me. “Is everything okay here?” he asks, his tone firm.

Marcus backs off, but not before casting a smirk in my direction. The incident is noted by my colleagues, adding another layer of tension to an already strained environment.
