Chapter 31 His Past

Zane

I thought she would be angry or upset. But instead, she smiles. “Fine then. I’ll give myself up. No one else gets hurt.”

I’m dumbfounded by her response. I’m also absolutely livid. I would never let her give herself up. She can fight me on everything else. But I draw the line at losing her. It took me this long to find her. I won’t give her up.

“Absolutely not.” I growl out. My eyes are red and my fangs make an appearance.

She crosses her arms like an angry child. “It’s my life, my choice. Surely you would do the same.” She says and I grab her and start kissing her neck. I place gentle kisses along where I always bite.

“I don’t give a damn about anyone but you.” I kiss her again. “Selfish I know love. But it’s what you do you to me. I won’t lose you. I’ll watch the world burn before I let them harm you.”

Her green emerald eyes look deep into my soul. “What will we do then? How do we win this battle?”

I rub her shoulders. I need to ease her into what I’m about to say. “It’s simple. I’ll talk to him. The vampire king. He owes me.”

Sasha looks at me confused and concern spreads across her face. “What do you mean? Zane, why does he owe you? Did you take a life for him?”

“No. He took mine.”

*Flashback*

“Today is an important day. It’s the day all of the hard work you have done pays off. Today is the day you become like us. Become a beast, a killer. A vampire.”

I take a big gulp and can feel the sweat on my forehead. Is it normal to be this nervous? I have wanted this since I found out why I’m so different. Why nobody likes me?

I have been a human living among the supernatural. Unknown of their world I entered it and tried to belong. But now that I’m becoming one of them I plan on doing a lot more. I’m going to dominate this world. Everyone who ever belittled me, made me feel worthless. They will pay and I will kill them with a smile on my face.

“You’re spacing out again Zane? Are you sure you’re ready for this?” My father Vlad Udmire asks.

The fear I once had is gone. The need to please my father and prove others wrong rushes in. The little devil on my shoulder is back. He encourages me to do it. To become like them. To unleash the beast hidden within.

A smile form’s on my lips. I look my father straight in the eyes. He smiles back. He knows I want this as badly as he does. He chose me. He wanted an heir and he could have picked any human yet here I stand. A human who survived twenty-five years with monsters. And a monster I shall become.

“I’m ready.”

*Flashback Ends*

“The vampire king is your father? The leader of the Royal Council. The one who wants me dead? Is your father?” Sasha asks me like she doesn’t believe it.

“Yes, he is. He took me as a baby and raised me as his. I had a good life. He wasn’t all bad. But he has crossed a line.” I growl. I can feel myself getting angry again. “He came for you, my beloved. And I will end in him once and for all.”

Sasha wraps her arms around me and presses her lips to mine in a quick kiss. “Get me home you dangerous vampire. Make love to me. Because tomorrow we make plans for a little family reunion.”
