Chapter 2 of 4

Filth of the Earth

The Last Children Of The Sky2,997 words~15 min read

The Creature opened all of its eyes for the first time and observed the world that surrounded it. It saw everything that was above and below its body. As the Creature formed its first thoughts, it noticed the ground beneath. It was filthy beyond reason. Everything it could spot was mocking the idea of symmetry. These creations claimed to be symmetrical with their overall structure, but as soon as one observed them closer, they could see the flaws.

The Asymmetry.

The Asymmetry, that permeated the very being of these creations, spat on any reason, that could have excused its existence. The Creature forced itself to observe the Earth further, to make sure it would never forget the disgust and pure hatred it felt in this moment.

The attention of the Creature was drawn to the first living being it had ever seen. A small being that had six legs and wings that were bigger than its body. The small being was the most colorful thing that the Creature could see on this filth-ridden Earth. The Creature felt an incredible amount of disgust rise through its body, as it realized what that being tried to imitate. The small being had tried to imitate the Sky above. After witnessing such a disgrace to anything that could be considered beautiful, the Creature needed to close the eyes that witnessed the Earth.

It relaxed as its remaining eyes observed the Sky in its infinite Beauty and Perfection. It began to observe the ever-changing golden lines that stretched across the Sky. The golden lines twisted themselves into a giant picture of buildings that spoke of untold glory. The buildings began to change from their glory to the majesty of ancient ruins of pure and utter isolation. Then the golden lines began to deform and formed Something in the Sky. They displayed absolute asymmetry as if to show the imitators that were created by Earth how perfect asymmetry looked like. The Creature got lost in wonder as its eyes wandered over this display.

Not a single part of these golden lines was ever repeated, even the golden color was never the same. They were without any patterns. Even within the building blocks of golden lines nothing ever repeated. Each single building block had its own laws on which it operated. The Creature was sad that it couldn’t witness this Perfection in greater detail, as the golden lines began to twist into something new. The golden lines shifted into a perfect circle. Absolute symmetry. The Creature had rested its eyes enough and wanted to experience the sounds of the Sky before it was ready to face the filth the Earth had created.

As it focused on its hearing, it noticed the hymns of the Sky could not reach the Earth fully as they were drowned out by the humming of beings and the rustling of leaves that littered the ground. The Creature was forced to face the reality of its situation and opened its eyes again. It wanted to erase every part of the Earth that it could perceive but restrained itself. It knew that its purpose was the eradication of the sentient beings that the Earth had created. The Creature felt the hatred its Creator held towards these beings and grew a morbid curiosity about how much worse these beings could be, in comparison to the absolute filth it had witnessed so far. Thus, the Creature began to move. It felt the wind touch its body as it moved and needed to stop for a moment to gather itself.

The wind was disgusting. No, it was beyond just disgusting. It was an abomination of the natural laws.

It had tried to coil itself around the Creature. It had tried to reach the wings on the back of the Creature with its disgustingly warm tendrils. Luckily, the Creature had managed to react, before the wind had further defiled its body, by creating an energy shield that isolated it from the abominations the Earth had created.

It took the Creature a while to calm down again after being defiled like this. After it calmed down and made sure that the energy shield would protect it from the vile creations of Earth, the Creature began to move for the first time in its existence. It slowly began to glide in the opposite direction of the sinking sun, since the Creature wanted to witness the Beauty of nightfall as fast as possible. With this reward in mind, it began to make its way across the cacophony of filth.

Every time the Creature found a new creation of Earth it needed to stop, to overcome the urge to burn down everything immediately. Caution and reason were enough to stop these urges every single time. The Creature knew that it was in the cesspool the dominant creations called home, it was at a disadvantage if they ambushed the Creature. Like this the journey of the Creature continued, stopping every few minutes to recover from a new vile discovery that were littered across the surface and undergrounds of the Earth. The Creature finally took a break from all of this torture to witness the sunset.

As the sun sunk below the horizon the Sky slowly changed into a mix of gold and orange as if to bid the sun farewell. The golden lines began to mix themselves with the last rays of the day, allowing the sun to be reflected across the entire Sky one last time before giving way to the night scenery. As soon as the sun finally disappeared alongside the golden lines, did the moon appear accompanied by stars that pressed themselves into the firmament from above.

The moon was the shape of a thirty-one-sided dice slowly rotating as it traveled the Sky. Each of the faces of the moon displayed a different moment of history. The faces managed to remain Beautiful despite their need to display the creations of the Earth. If one were to watch for an entire night, one could witness the entirety of history. The edges of the moon were all in a piercing blue separating each of the eons of history that were displayed. The moon radiated a deep blue light that symbolized the night, even though not a single part of the moon itself was in that color blue.

The stars, that had accompanied the moon, all tried to outshine each other. Each one being a crystal polished until Perfection. They added soft colors to the night Sky. But even though the crystals were colorful by nature, none of them outstood their welcome in the eye, allowing the night to remain calm.

The Creature just watched the scenery the Sky had created for the night in awe. It spent almost half the night just observing the nightly scenery, ignoring the filth that it was surrounded by. But sadly, this trance was broken when particularly annoying sounds entered its ears. These sounds mimicked language without any of the grace, dignity and Beauty of the Sky gifted language the Children possessed.

The Creature, angry at this interruption, searched for the vermin that dared to mock the concept of language and dared to disturb its break from this hell. The Creature found the vermin; they were a group of three bipedal creatures. They were splashing around in a pool of water near a waterfall. The Creature had tried its best to avoid water during its travel since the water looked like a bad imitation of the golden lines from the perspective of the Creature. Since, the Creature didn’t want to unnecessarily torment itself by seeing this borderline blasphemous creation as it snaked its way through the Earth’s surface.

The Creature took a moment to suppress its rage and disgust, before it moved closer to these vermin with their mockery of a language. When it hovered directly above them, it took a moment to analyze them since it was sure that these were the defenders of Earth. The group of three consisted of two species, both bipedal and made of flesh, bones, muscles, skin and blood. The only reason why the Creature could even tell why these vermin were of different species was the difference in height and build.

Two of the vermin were taller, being just short of two meters tall, while the last one was shorter being only around a meter tall. The two tall ones were almost completely hairless except at the top of their skulls and had bone and muscle structures that would indicate agility instead of raw power. The short one in comparison had, while also mostly hairless, its skull completely covered in hair and was practically only a small hill of muscles.

It had taken everything from the Creature to just take in the facts about these beings, without eradicating everything they ever touched from existence. The curiosity of the Creature was finally satisfied and began to feel pity towards the Sky for it had to witness these beings, living and existing, for eons. These beings were everything the Sky was not. Their bodies were mass produced with only a vague goal in mind during the creation of the first. They were uniform in their overall structure, speaking volumes about the creativity of their creator. The Creature didn’t despise the idea of a being made of flesh, bones, muscles, skin and blood, if there was a purpose beyond just making a mockery of sensible design and evoking as much disgust as possible in the observer.

Although the Creature barely had time to study these vermin, it learned too much about how their language and mind worked. The language was mostly auditory with a few visual and some rare tactile cues as aid. The Creature could not understand how these beings had ignored the changes in the world and its underlying laws while creating their language. In addition to this, they had not even tried to rectify this problem by using all of their senses to convey information and emotion. The language of the vermin could not even be categorized as an abomination anymore as an abomination at least hinted at some resemblance to the source material.

Then there were the parts the Creature had understood of their conversation by observing the changes in the world. As if it was not enough for their body to be this imperfect, mass produced and ugly in concept alone, the Earth had the audacity to make their minds somehow even worse. The three vermin were farmers of this land, forced to crawl in the mud of the Earth by those who were simply born somewhere else. But they spoke not of the rebellion, nor did they mention any dissatisfaction with being forced to live like this, they spoke of those who were even less fortunate than them. They were reveling in the misery of a farmer that was nearing the end of his life and lusted after his soon to be available plot of land; they were speaking of plans of how to drag other members of their own kin down into the mud; they expressed jealousy and envy of a member of their village that managed to work their way out of the mud.

The Creature now knew what true hatred felt like, it now understood the need to rid the Earth of its existence. And even though the Creature understood that leaving these vermin alive would maximize their suffering, it could not bring itself to stoop down to such levels of filth. The Creature had a basic sense of empathy; it would not let them suffer more than necessary. As it internalized these revelations, it understood that it held more empathy towards these vermin than any of their kin could ever muster up. These failures of creation, being the worst this world had to offer, should and could no longer be called vermin. The Creature went through the Sky gifted language to find a word to describe the pure and utter vileness, failure, filth, repulsiveness and imperfection these beings represented. It found a single word that fit the feelings the Creature held towards them. The word was

Ezlix.

The Creature couldn’t contain its hate any longer and began to act. It pushed the underside of its energy shield outwards until it touched the top of the waterfall. The water evaporated instantly while the stone began to melt. The Ezlix noticed the sounds of the water being evaporated and looked up at the Creature. But before they even got the chance to express their fear and unwillingness to die through their pathetic attempt of language, the energy reached them. It passed through them eviscerating anything that could have ever hinted at their existence.

The Creature let the energy shield stamp a dent into the Earth to make absolutely sure that nothing would remain of the Ezlix, before looking for the village that they had spoken of. It found the village almost instantly as it was just a few hundred meters down the flowing and twisting body of water. The Creature barely registered the atrocities the Ezlix called houses as it arrived above the village. The Creature could no longer bear to witness such filth and let its hatred take control. The Creature let its energy shield expand trying to encompass the entirety of the village but it noticed two things. It could not stretch its energy thin enough to eradicate everything while also reaching the edges of the village, due to its insufficient energy. The other thing it noticed was that something had stopped the advancement of the energy shield in the middle of the village.

The Creature turned all of its eyes to the Ezlix that had dared to stop this purge of filth. The Ezlix wore clothes of better quality compared to the rest of the villagers. This must be one of the oppressors; one of the Ezlix whose mind was filthy and corrupted enough to satisfy its greed at the cost of its kin. The Creature observed the dome of protection the Ezlix had created while thinking of a solution to remove this guardian of filth. It began to experiment with the energy it could control; it let it circle around the dome but, due to the smooth nature of the energy of both the dome and its energy, nothing happened. It tried to crack the dome open by pushing its energy down from all sides, although it strained the barrier the Creature exhausted too much energy in comparison to the Ezlix. The Creature pulled its energy back for a moment before trying to compress into a ball of concentrated energy. This was surprisingly easy, after the ball was formed, the Creature shot it at the shield. The ball pierced through the dome, the head of the Ezlix and the ground beneath with ease, leaving behind a hole in the ground.

The Creature didn’t celebrate its victory and instead began to complete its work of eradication. It needed to track down three Ezlix, that had tried to escape from its mercy by hindering other escapees in the hope that they just needed to not be the slowest. The Creature despised this act of unnecessary cruelty, filth of the mind and imperfection in plan and execution, that it hunted down these three first. It didn’t even need to worry about the others escaping since they were all either injured by these three or otherwise hindered from progressing. After the Creature had finished its complete eradication of this assembly of filth, it took a look at its work.

The place where the village had been located was now only littered with perfectly symmetrical spherical holes in the ground with a small tunnel in the middle of the village, that seemed to reach the deepest part of the Earth. Outside of the village one could see spots where the Earth had been indented by smaller spheres and the place where once a waterfall rained its imitation of perfection down a cliff was now replaced with the dripping of molten rock into a bowl of molten dirt.

The Creature did not feel proud, nor did it feel accomplishment. It realized it had made a mistake. No, it had not made a mistake, it had created a field of mistakes. Although it had removed a gathering of the worst the Earth had to offer, it had exposed more of its filth to the Sky by increasing the surface that was visible. It took no solace in the fact that the indentions it had made were all perfect as their Beauty was ruined by the filth of the Earth. The Creature began to weep at its mistakes. Its tears slid down from its many eyes, each flying to a different mistake slowly filling it up. The Creature stopped weeping as the last mistake was filled by its tears of silver. The entire field of its mistakes had been covered with its silver tears, reflecting the Sky.

The Creature looked at the cover up of its mistakes and felt worship at the wisdom of the Sky, as It had given the Creature the tools, to at the very least cover up for its mistake, at its creation. The Creature marveled at the reflection of the night Sky that slowly came to an end. It also saw itself in the mirror of its tears. It witnessed its eyes, each carved from a different shade of purple; it witnessed its body that practically screamed of the Perfection of the Sky with its deep blue scales that seemed to flow into each other seeming like a single one; it witnessed its wings. Its wings were a testament to the Beauty of the Sky. It possessed eleven wings in total surrounding its body and eyes like a picture frame, with their ever changing and at the same time constant shade of red.
