âYou think Kenneth wouldn't jump at the chance to take over if I die?â
It had taken him a decade of relentless pursuit to secure his position at the helm, and there was no way
he'd let it slip through his fingers that easily.
âHe's not the sleazeball you're making him out to be!"
âHmph. Everett scoffed, âI'm a manâ
And if there's one thing a man knew, it was what other men were thinking!
Dorothy hated hearing anyone speak ill of Kenneth. She urged, "You should take a shower.â
âI still have my pants onâ
âYou can handle that part yourself!"
Knowing he had pushed her enough today and risking her actually leaving, Everett steadied Dorothy
with one hand while he slipped off his sweatpants with the other.
She kept her eyes tightly shut the entire time, refusing to sneak even a peek!
Fortunately, Everett's wound was on his upper body. Nothing happened to him as long as he dodged
the wound, He even didn't get his cloth wet
Since he couldn't raise his arms high, it was Dorothy who washed his hair.
It was her first time tending to someone like this, and she was a bit clumsy. Her nails even accidentally
scraped his cheek, but it didn't dampen Everett's spirits.
While toweling off, she sighed, âYou're going to be scarred front and back.â
Such deep wounds were bound to leave their mark.
âThat's why I'm thinking maybe I should get a tattoo of Abigail and Langstoris birthdays. What do you
think?â
Dorothy's towel-folding hands paused, âMaybe not...â
âSo, it's only okay if the marks are yours?â
âThat's not what I meant!â
She just thought tattoos were painful, and the inflammation and redness afterward just werent worth it.
âThey're my only kids. I want to tattoo their birthdays and names.
Dorothy sensed something amiss, "Why just those two? You're still young!â
âIt meant what I said the other time; he was serious about getting a vasectomy.
If that's what it took to keep Dorothy, who always let her own imagination run wild, from worrying, he
would do it.
âDon't!â she quickly interjected, âI don't want you doing that surgery!"
âWhy not?â
âJust... don't! Why undergo a life-altering procedure when everything's fine? You're the CEO of Lopez
Corporation. Your family might as well have a âthroneâ to inherit.â
Everett's gaze fixed on her, âAbigail and Langston are enough. They're my childrenâ Dorothy didn't
reply.
âWhat, you want more kids?" he asked.
Dorothy frowned, knowing this man always kept his word. If he actually went through with a vasectomy,
it would be on her conscience.
âWe can't predict the future. What if I want more later?â
Everett tried to gauge the sincerity of her words, âAren't two enough?â
âYour genes are too good; two isn't enoughâ
âAh. Everett let out a soft sigh, âDorothy, I can provide for however many kids we have, but I worry
about your healthâ
He knew all too well the toll childbirth took on a woman's body.
The joy of new life was one thing, but Dorothy's well-being was the most paramount thing.
âSounds like you're planning on more right nowâ Having finished drying his hair, Dorothy neatly folded
the towel, âJust don't go through with the surgery yetâ
He nodded, âAlright, I'll listen to youâ
As Dorothy went to get the hairdryer, Everett's phone on the table rang.
She glanced down and saw it was Jeffrey.
Handing Everett the phone, she said, "It's Jeffrey.â
Everett pressed the answer button and Jeffrey's voice came through, sounding muffled and
unenthusiastic.
âKaren's got a boyfriend! I was played!â
