At this moment, the silhouette of Eldorria City Airport loomed in the distance through the airplaneâs
windowâa stark reminder that Jeffreyâs time was running out.
He knew that if he let Karen leave without snagging her contact information, it would be game over.
Whether theyâd cross paths. again was a matter left to fate. Hoping for a lead from Everett was a foolâs
errand. That guy was all about his girl, Dorothy, playing the lovesick puppy in front of her. Even with his
bigâshot role as CEO of the Lopez Corporation, he constantly worried about tripping Dorothyâs temper.
And reaching out to Dorothy herself? Fat chance! Sheâd already made her stance clear; she wasnât on
board.
âYou donât have to head back with me right off the bat. What do you say we grab a bite after we land? I
rushed to the airport to catch you and havenât eaten a thing. Iâm starving.â
Jeffrey reached out, but Karen deftly sidestepped him.
âCanât do. Someoneâs picking me up.â
âWho? A guy or a girl?â Jeffreyâs alertness spiked instantly.
Karen frowned, finding him to be a real piece of work. âWhatâs it to you?â
He grabbed her wrist, halting her packing efforts. âIâm asking you. A guy or a girl?â
âA guy, okay? Happy now?â
A guy? Some dude was picking her up!
âAnd who might this guy be to you?â He couldnât hide the sourness in his voice.
Karen paused, gesturing to the flight attendant who looked rather uncomfortable, âMr. Turner, weâre
about to land. Can you please. take your seat?â
âSir, please return to your seat,â the flight attendant added, urging him along.
With the presence of an audience, Jeffrey had no choice but to go back and sit down obediently.
Karen had just stowed her eye mask and travel pillow back into her carryâon when the plane touched
down smoothly.
She had managed to get a decent amount of sleep during the tenâhour flight and felt refreshed. Her
mind was already wandering to the sumptuous meal sheâd enjoy with Kenneth and the two munchkins.
She had to make sure Kenneth got the bill good and proper.
âLadies and gentlemen, thank you for flying with us. We have now landed at Eldorria City Airportâ¦â
The announcement began to play overhead.
Karen switched into her walking shoes, slung her bag over her shoulder, and made a beeline for the
exit, paying Jeffrey no mind the entire time.
This left Jeffrey grinding his teeth in frustration, but he couldnât make a scene with the other
passengers all getting ready to disembark.
As soon as Karen stepped off the plane, her phone rangâit was Kenneth.
Hearing Kennethâs ringtone filled her with warmth. âYeah! Just landed! Are you here now? And you got
me a present⦠Oh, youâre the best!â
Karen wasnât big on farewells but loved being picked up. It felt like there was something to look forward
to.
âNo lies, I really love you! And of course, Iâm crashing at your place tonight. Where else would I go?â
On the other end, Kenneth couldnât help but chuckle. âI figured your folks would be eager to see you. I
can drive you to them firstâ
âNo way! Flyingâs too exhausting. Letâs head to my parentsâ tomorrow.â
âSure, itâs all up to you.â
âAlright, Iâm making my way out. Iâll see you after I grab my luggage. Catch you in a bit.â
With the phone call over, Karenâs step quickened.
But not a few paces later, she felt someone tug at her carryâon from behind!
Turning around, she was met with Jeffreyâs glowering face.
Shoot, sheâd forgotten all about him.
âMr. Turner, something else you need?â
Jeffreyâs eyes narrowed, and he raised an eyebrow. âFinished with your call?â
Karen nodded, âYeah.â
âSo, youâre going to stay with another man tonight, huh?â
