âStop!â Dorothy waved her hands frantically, âIt was Dr. Quincyâs skill that saved you. Sheâs a wizard in
the medical world. Without Dr. Quincy, youâd still be living on the line!â
Her thoughts before didnât meant to target Quincy at all!
It was just admiration, pure and simple.
Deep down, Dorothy harbored a sense of inferiority, viewing herself as nothing more than dirt on the
ground. So when Everett fell for her, it was a shock to her system.
âThe Lopez family pays her a salary.â Everett wasnât too hung up on it.
As a physician at the Lopez Private Hospital, it was only natural for Quincy to treat patients; it was part
of her job description! At most, they could give her a bonus for a job well done.
Just like with Heather. Amanda kept reminding Heather of her enormous sacrifices for the Lopez family,
praising her dedication and singleâminded focus. But as far as Everett was concerned, Heather had
already been compensated for her work. It was her job, after all.
âDonât get the wrong idea. Iâm not jealous,â Dorothy insisted, worried he might actually change his
doctor. âI swear!â
Everett, however, was not satisfied with her response. His handsome face became a bit somber.
âNot jealous?â
âRight! Iâm really not! In fact, Iâm grateful to Dr. Quincy for saving you.â
âDorothy, you mean to tell me that you feel nothing when you see other women around me?â
She blinked, taking a moment to grasp the full meaning of his words..
âEveryone socializes, right? And in social circles, there are men and women. Am I supposed to
demand that you, a big shot CEO, cut off all contact with the opposite sex?â
âBut when I see men around you, I get jealous.â
Dorothy widened her eyes.
âWhether itâs Kenneth, Lane, or maybe others I donât know about, I get jealous of them all.â
Now Everett, usually so distinguished and genteel, spoke with the petulance of a child.
âThen go ahead and put me under house arrest. Thatâll end my social life completely.â
âIâve thought about it.â
Dorothy was shocked again.
His eyes were serious and earnest, âIâve really thought about it.â
But he dared not go through with it.
The two exchanged a long look before Everett let out a soft sigh.
He couldnât let her know the full extent of his feelings all at once. He had to reveal it slowly, like
chipping away at an iceberg: otherwise, the look in her eyes a moment ago suggested she was already
plotting her escape.
Back in his own room, Jeffrey stripped off his clothes and dove into bed, grumbling to himself.
He was too tired to play the part of some eager lackey groveling for approval. Better to stay away!
As he was about to fall asleep, his phone rang at the most inconvenient time.
Jeffrey, shirtless and irritated, sat up and snatched the phone. It was Lane,
âWhatâs up?â he barked.
âWhatâs with the tone?â Lane sounded sloppy as usual, but this time he feigned his nonchalance.
Lane, who was out of the loop, could only hope to get some information through Jeffrey.
âNothing. Iâm tired.â
âOh. I heard you dashed off to Swevia Country right after waking up?â
âYeah.â
Lane paused, his voice rising a notch, âDorothy went to Swevia Country too, right? To see Everett?â
âYeah.â Jeffrey responded reflexively, then remembered who Lane was. âWait a second, youâre not still
hung up on Dorothy, are you? Sheâs back with Everett now and theyâre inseparable.â
âTheyâve really back together?â
âWhy would I lie? Just give it up, man!â
Lane better be a lifelong bachelor like he did!
Lane chuckled, then took a moment before asking. âSo, that person you kept mentioning beforeâ¦
whatâs her name, Heather? Are you still in touch with her?â
âDonât even mention her! Donât make a madman!â
