Dorothy was sound asleep in the hospital room. Her energy thoroughly sapped by Everett. It was hard
to tell if she had simply succumbed to exhaustion or slipped into unconsciousness.
Sunlight streamed through the window, bathing her face in a warm glow that made her look even more
delicate and beautiful. Dorothyâs beauty wasnât the kind that screamed for attention with bold makeup.
She was the pure and bright, with a face the size of a palm and vibrant, clear almond eyes. Dressed in
a simple Tâshirt and jeans, she could pass for an undergrad on campus. But when she wore something
a little more wellâdesigned, something that hugged her curves, she would have temptation adding on
that purity.
Her waist was so slim that Everett could easily pin her down with one arm and indulge in her. Despite
her slender frame, she had an impressively developed bust, which was not exactly voluptuous but
certainly something to be proud of.
Everett had been sitting by her side, watching over her without moving. He was reluctant to look away
even for a moment, until Karenâs call came through.
He couldnât fathom why Jeffrey would do that, but Karen was Dorothyâs best friend and had been a
great help to her. This was something he felt he needed to get involved with.
Fearing to disturb Dorothy, Everett picked up his phone and stepped out of the room. He winced with
each step he took.
It took several rings before Jeffrey answered.
âHey, Everettâ¦â
The guilt was evident in his voice.
âWhatâs the deal with you and Karen?â
âShe talked to you?!â Jeffreyâs voice spiked in pitch, causing Everett to hold the phone away from his
ear to avoid the sudden outburst.
Thatâs not important!
âIt is important!â
With a sigh, Jeffrey recounted the event, conveniently leaving out the part where heâd got impotent.
The more he talked, the more he felt like the victimâhow unfair it all was! She interrupted him, and he in
turned had to sooth her!
Everett listened with a frown and eventually spoke in a measured tone, âIâll get someone else to take
care of her. Keep your distance.â
The last thing he wanted was another round of drama.
âI just wanted to tease her a bit. I had no idea that tomboy would actually cry!â Jeffrey felt that he has
really met a rival. âFine, Iâll do as you said and stay away from her.â
After hanging up, Everett was about to head back to the room when he felt a presence behind him. He
turned sharply to see Quincy, with her round eyes looking at him through the lenses of her glasses.
She dressed in her usual white lab coat and addressed him with a mix of exasperation and concern.
âMr. Lopez, you were supposed to stay in bed until
tomorrow.â
âI had something to take care of.â
âIf you keep this up, Iâm really going to have to tell Ms. Sanchez!â Quincy had just assured Jonathan
that she wouldnât let anything happen to Everett. Now, he was really running her credibility with
Jonathan.
âDonât say anything,â Everett said instinctively. âIâm heading back now.â
âHere, lean on my shoulder, and Iâll help youâ Quincy offered, stepping closer to lend her support.
But Everett, with a frosty expression, wouldnât even let his clothes brush against hers.
It had always been like this. His being a clean freak had reached almost mythical proportions,
especially when it came to women. Even when Quincy applied the medications, he insisted she wear
disposable medical gloves.
âNo need. I can manage on my ownâ
âBut youâre risking your recovery! Itâs already bad enough that you got out of bed prematurely, and now
you wonât even letting me help. What if you fall?â Quincy was focused solely on her duty as a doctor
and oblivious to the rejection in his eyes.
The next moment Everett spoke with a cold and distant tone, âSorry, I have a bit of a clean freak.â
