Dorothyâs expression was slightly unnatural as she mumbled, âNo, nothing.â
Quincy eyed her and then let out a light chuckle. âTaking care of a patient can be exhausting, huh?â
âMmâhmmâ¦â
It really was exhausting.
Quincy seemed to understand completely and gave her a supportive pat on the shoulder. âWhy donât
you catch some more sleep? Iâll come back later.â
âNo, you should tend to his bandagesâthatâs more important!â
The last thing Dorothy wanted was to be alone in a room with Everett.
It was mainly because the pains on her back and legs!
Quincy, oblivious to the tension that had filled the room moments earlier, entered with the medical
supplies and commented, âWhy does it feel so stuffy in here? Itâs like thereâs a⦠a smellâ¦â
Dorothyâs scalp tingled at her words. She felt guilty, and she couldnât bring herself to look up.
A terrifying thought struck her!
Would Everett continue to be like this for the next, full month?
âHow are you feeling, Mr. Lopez?â Quincyâs voice floated from behind her.
Everett responded, âPretty good.â
âLetâs take a look.â Quincy moved to his side and carefully began to unwrap the bandage, then frowned
slightly. âDid you move around too much in your sleep? The wound seems to have bled a bit!â
Everettâs eyes flickered toward Dorothy, who still hadnât dared to turn around. He replied, âMaybe I did
while I was asleep.â
âYou should try to keep still. If the wound keeps bleeding, itâs going to take forever to heal. Quincy
advised as she jotted down notes on her clipboard. She then checked the monitor readings and
nodded in satisfaction. âBut it does look like youâre on the mend. Youâll have to stay in bed today. But if
all goes well, we can remove the monitors tomorrow, and you can start moving
around a bit.â
âAlright, thank you.â
As Quincy prepared to leave, Everett stopped her and asked with his voice low, âCan I take a shower
tomorrow?â
âNot yet. Youâll have to stick to the sponge. Is something bothering you?â She noticed his deep frown.
âItâs just uncomfortable after sweating.â
âSweating?â Quincy looked puzzled, âThe room has air conditioning; you could turn it on!â
Everettâs gaze returned to Dorothy and smiled, âAlright, got it.â
Quincy left the room, feeling as though both patients were acting oddly today.
Once the door closed, Dorothy, frustrated, gritted her teeth. âAre you trying to make sure everyone
knows what happened between us last night?â
She had been silent, yet he kept deliberately bringing it up!
âI just asked about the shower. I didnât say anything else.â Everett replied, his handsome face regaining
some color, In fact, he looked quite refreshed today.
âI canât even deal with you! Iâm going to go stay at Karenâs tonight.â
âFine. Go ahead.â
To Dorothyâs surprise, Everett agreed without hesitation!
Just as she nodded, he casually added on.
âLeave me alone in the hospital room then. I might die and no one would know.â
âThis hospital belongs to the Lopez family. You could have as many nurses you want.â
Everett raised an eyebrow, and the corners of his lips barely hid a smirk. âBut they canât help me with
my problem. Only you can.â
Dorothy clenched her teeth. âI absolutely will not today!â
âJust once then.â
âNot even once!â
âDorothy, donât forget, I can get out of bed tomorrow.â Everettâs voice floated effortlessly with a hint of
threat, âAnd then, it will be up to me to decide how many times we want.â
