âWhat are you talking about?â
Everett was confused, feeling as if Dorothyâs words had some hidden meaning.
âIt means exactly what it sounds like.â Dorothy didnât want to bring this up; just thinking about the love
bites on his skin made her saddened. âYou donât have to explain. I understand.â
Everett frowned. His gaze fixed on her delicate face. âWhen have I ever sought the company of another
woman?â
He had always been chaste, to the point where even necessary interactions with females were
unavoidable at work, he would retain a distance from them. But Dorothy assumed as though he was a
playboy.
âHow should I know when you did it?â
Everettâs clueless expression only made Dorothy angrier, convincing her he was feigning! So she grew
even more irritated. âAnyway, thatâs your business, not mine. You donât have to fake your purity. Iâm not
yours anyone at best Iâm your exâwife. I have no say over your private life.â
Strictly speaking, she had no right to question it even if Everett had been with a different woman every
day for the past four years. It was just that seeing those marks made her heart ache.
âWait a second!â Everett felt unfairly accused. âWhat am I faking for? I havenât been with anyone else!
Thatâs the truth.â
âI said I didnât mind. Why do you keep bringing this up?â
âYes, I have to bring it up!â
Otherwise, how wronged would he feel? How wronged!
âFine. But remember, you asked for this.â
Dorothy really wanted to divert from this topic and not dwell on such matters. Even if he had been with
other women, it didnât change the fact that he truly loved her, that he was willing to throw himself into
harmâs way for her. Sheâd be way too annoying if she kept fixating on it.
But now, Everett insisted on discussing it. He determined to confront her. So, letâs be it.
That time you got drunk, Kevin brought you back to Bay Residence.â
Everett recalled the incident. âRight, I called you because I wanted to see you, but you said you had no
sweet words for me so better not to meet. You said I looked pathetic clinging to you, that I was just
looking for an excuse to talk to you.â
Dorothy didnât expect him to remember their conversation so clearly; she had forgotten the specifics
herself. âAnyway, that night, after you got drunk, I went to Bay Residence to look for you.â
Everettâs handsome countenance froze, stunned.
His eyes fixed on her. âYou came to me?â
âYes!â Dorothy nodded, admitting it outright. âI felt guilty for being harsh with you. Kevin said you were
intoxicated, and I wanted to take care of you. But⦠butâ¦â
The sight of the bite marks on his shoulder and the heartâwrenching discomfort it caused her were
hard to take in even until now. âDid I say anything to you?â
âNo.â
âThen what was it?â
Dorothy took a deep breath and said slowly, âI saw bite marks on your shoulder. Many bite marks.
Youâre not going to tell me Kevin did that, are you? You certainly couldnât have bitten yourself there
either!â
Everett just stared at Dorothy, and after a long moment, he suddenly burst out laughing.
His Adamâs apple bobbed up and down as he laughed so hard that his chest trembled, and the laughter
made the pain in his wounds start to throb.
âEverett, whatâs so funny!â
