You are the hardest person!â
The words slipped out of Dorothyâs mouth before she could stop them, and only after they were
hanging in the air did she realize they had a certain ambiguity.
Everett, ever the troublemaker, chose to play along. âYes, I am. Iâll own that.â
âUgh, I canât even deal with you right now!â
Dorothy turned to leave, but Everettâs grip was ironclad, unyielding.
She frowned in frustration, âWhy do you have to be such a pain like Jeffrey, picking up his bad habits!â
During the takeover of East Star Enterprises, Dorothy had seriously doubted that the decision was
unlikely Everettâs conduct. His demeanor was always collected, mature, and reserved, never acting like
a petulant child.
But that decision might have been fatal for both camps!
âBecause Iâve realized that sometimes you have to play the fool to keep someone like you close.â
Before Dorothy returned to his life, Everettâs world had been orderly and disciplined: waking up,
attending meetings, travelling for work, domestic or international. Nothing seemed amiss. But after
reuniting with her, Everett began to see that too much gentlemanship could be a losing game in a
relationship.
Like now. If he let go of her hand for the sake of manner, heâd miss out on even a moment of contact.
âIs that some sort of twisted logic you learned from Jeffrey?â
âI realized it on my own.â
Dorothy couldnât help but laugh despite little irritation. âLet go. Iâm starving.â
Only then did Everett release her. âAlright! After youâve eaten, Iâll have someone take you to rest. You
must be exhausted.â
âIâm not going anywhere.â Dorothyâs brow furrowed slightly. With only a month to spare, she didnât want
to spend a second away from Everett, âIâll stay right here with you.â
Seeing Everettâs troubled expression, she pressed, âIs there a problem?â
Of course, there was a problem!
Having the woman that he loved right beside him while being unable to touch or do anything was
torturous.
âI⦠umâ¦â Everett struggled to find the words, eventually just sighing, âNever mind. Just stay if you
like.â
Heâd have to bottle up his desires!
âWhy donât you just say what the problem is? Why hesitating? How am I supposed to know if you donât
tell me?â Dorothy didnât keep up with his fantasies and was completely confused by his behavior.
She assumed Everett would want to be with her, but he actually seemed hesitant.
âItâs nothing.â
âOut with it! I want to know!â Dorothy took a firm stance.
With an awkward turn of his face, Everettâs voice dropped to a whisper. âItâs just⦠my chest is injured,
but everything else isâ¦. functioning normally.â
Dorothy looked at him innocently, raising an eyebrow. âOkay, and then?â
âAnd then⦠when youâre close, when I smell your scent, I start to thinkâ¦â
Her gaze shifted from Everettâs flushed face to a certain area below his waist that seemed to be
showing signs of life, and she finally got it.
âYouâre in this state and you still think about those !â She couldnât believe that this was the same
reserved Everett she knew.
Everett exhaled deeply, his attitude résigning to the situation.
âDorothy, Iâm a man.â
Of course, he had desires!
Without Dorothy, heâd resolved on his own. But how could he resist, with her so close after such a long
abstinence?
Dorothy paused for a moment before tentatively suggesting, âSo, do you want me to ask Jeffrey to find
you a girl?â
âGood heavens, Dorothy!â
She flinched at his outburst. âWhy are you yelling? Anyways itâs not like itâs your first time being with
other women.â
