The bodyguard glanced at Jeffrey, then at Karen, hesitating before daring to open the dan
Fearing they might change their minds again, Karen balled inside, only to be overwhelmed by the sheer
size of the place
Elevators and staircases flanked her on either side, leaving her clueless about which way to go.
Jeffrey, watching her buzzing around like a headless chicken couldnât help but curve his lips into a
smirk,
âWhatâs so funny?â
âI smile because I want to, Jeffrey spread his hands, arching an eyebrow playfully, inadvertently pulling
at his wound, which immediately stiffened his grin into a grimace.
Karen pointed at the bandage on his head, âLaughing ton hand can bite you back! Did Heather give
you that wound?â
If youâre looking for them, go left! Jeffrey surely coudnât wait to get rid of this troublesome woman She
might not be the sharpest at banter but she sure knew how to hit where it hurt
With a triumphant grin, Karen tumed left, muttening under her breath, âHow many sick people can the
Lopez family pass by have to
need such a massive private hospital?â
Must be nice to have money to burn!
Dorothy stepped out of the ICU just in time to see Kasen ascend the stairs, her eyes lighting up with joy
then quickly cast down in guilt âIâm sorry for leibng you and Kenneth down
Karen waved it off nonchalantly, Forget that! You look a lot more lively than when you were laid up at
hospital in Elcorria City Have you
checked on Eveâll?
Dorothy nodded, âYeah, but he hasnât woken up yet!
âSoâ¦â
âBut heâs cut of danger nowâ
Karen nodded in reliel, âThatâs good. But how did you get in here? I got stopped by the doorman on my
way in.
âIt was Fyrettâs father who let me in Dorothy concealed the bargain she had struck she spilled the
beans, Karen, with her fiery temper, would undoubtedly argue with the Lopez family!
Karen and Kenneth adored those kids, and they would be just as disappointed in Dorothy for agiening
to such a dealâ¦.
Yet facing the power of the Lopez family Dorothy had no choice if she wanted to see Everett.
âThey just let you in! Please, theyâre not that kind!â Karen squatted in front of Dorothyâs wheelchair to
meet her eye. âHow are you feelingââ
Tm fine! Now that Iâve seen Everett, I can rest easy.â
Karen exhaled a sigh of relief, then, as if struck by a thought, whispered, âTran into Jeffrey on my way
here! Did he trek all the way here to plead Heatherâs case?â
Jeffrey?
Dorothy pondered for a moment before shaking her head, âI donât know Heâs a friend of Heatherâs, but
heâs also a friend of Everettâs. After finding out what happened, I doubt heâd take Heatherâs side
anymoreâ
She was unaware of Jeffreyâs car accident. The last time she saw him was because of a dispute with
Lane, and even then, his tone with her was less than friendly â actually, it was always frosty
âWell, you can never be sure! The manâs completely love stricken, a total lapdog. Remember how he
used to pine after Heather even trying to play matchmaker with her and Everett! That goes to show
thereâs no telling what he might do.â
âKaren! Next time you decide to badâmouth someone, could you at least check your surroundings?â
Suddenly, Karen and Dorothyâs gazes snapped toward the source of the voice.
There was Jeffrey, with a bandage atop his head and a limp in his step, making his way towards them.

He too was recovering from a serious condition, rawing only just been awakened by a doctor
summoned by Everett Had it not been for
the gravity of the situation, Jeffrey would have been bedridden in the hospital for a while longer.
Karen pursed her lips, about to retort, when the doctor rushed out of the ICU.
âIverellâs awake! Hes awake?
