âI⦠I have no idea what youâre talking about!â Dorothy stammered, her gaze dorting away from
Everettâs Intense scrutiny.
Everett leaned in, his handsome face inches away from hers. âThen what exactly do you mean by
ânibbling and bitingâ?â
Trying to feign composure, Dorothy averted her eyes. âMr. Lopez, surely your marriage isnât a celibate
one. Weâre both adults here, so thereâs no need to play coy.â
âHeh.â Everettâs gaze lingered, and suddenly, he let out a chuckle. âYouâre blushingâ
Dorothy was at a loss for words
Looking at the man before her, she felt as if she didnât recognize him anymore!
Since when had Everett become such a rogue?
âCome on, weâve already got out of the car. Letâs go inside and grab a bite to eat.
Without waiting for her response, Everett walked off, leaving Dorothy no choice but to follow.
All she could hope for was that Langston wouldnât make it too obvious when he saw her.
As the front door swung open, the first thing Dorothy saw was Langston sprawled on the couch, fiddling
with his laptop. well aware that his âlunchâ had arrived. Shuffling in his slippers toward the entrance, he
was about to greet Everett when he caught sight of the two familiar figures.
Dorothy, spotting Langston, quickly shot him a warning glance.
Fortunately, Everett didnât linger in the hallway but strode straight to the kitchen, leaving Dorothy and
Langston a
moment alone.
But even then, Dorothy couldnât let her guard down.
âHey there, kiddo.â She crouched down and shook Langstonâs hand as if they were meeting for the first
time.
Langston couldnât help but cringe at her act. It was comically awkward.
He glanced towards the kitchen and sighed, âMom, you donât have to worry. We donât have any
cameras in here.â
Smart as he was, Langston knew exactly what Dorothy was concerned about.
âYou sure? Dorothy raised an eyebrow, her eyes scanning the surroundings.
She feared that Everett might have installed cameras just to test her.
âTrust me, if there were cameras, Iâd know. Langston cocked his head, âAre you here to take me away?
âNo, Everett brought me here on purpose to test my relationship with you.â
âOhâ¦â Langstonâs eyes twinkled with a scheme. âThen Iâll just say I hate you and donât want you near
me. He wonât bring you here again.â
Dorothy thought it over and nodded, âGood idea!â
But after a second thought, something didnât sit right with her. âWait, you seem⦠really close to him!â
Since she had walked into the Bay Residence, Dorothy hadnât sensed any hint of the supposed
vengeance between Langston and Everett.
They seemed to get along quite well!
Everett had even come home at noon to cook for Langston. And Langston didnât seem surprised at all,
suggesting it wasnât a oneâoff but a regular occurrence.
Langston paused, then whispered sheepishly. âHis cooking is so good! He also teaches me about
computer networks! Iâve decided to postpone my revenge.â
1001
Dorothy frowned in exasperation, âLangston, do you have any idea how worried weâve been about
you?â
âDonât worry about me. Look, Iâm doing great here!â
Before Dorothy could say another word, Everett came out from the kitchen.
Caught off guard. Langston was the first to speak up. âI donât like her! Can you just make her leave?â
Everett glanced over, wiping his hands on a dish towel, raising an eyebrow. âLangston, Auntie Dorothy
is just here for a
meal.â
âWell I donât want her here! If she stays, Iâm not eating!â
Langston had a flair for the dramatic, and his disgruntled demeanor was so convincing it seemed he
might throw a tantrum at any second.
